Standing over six feet tall, USA Today bestselling author Jonathan Moeller has the piercing blue eyes of a Conan of Cimmeria, the bronze-colored hair of a Visigothic warrior-king, and the stern visage of a captain of men, none of which are useful in his career as a computer repairman, alas.
He has written the DEMONSOULED series of sword-and-sorcery novels, and continues to write THE GHOSTS sequence about assassin and spy Caina Amalas, the COMPUTER BEGINNER'S GUIDE series of computer books, and numerous other works. His books have sold over one million copies worldwide.
Nice! A really good read. This one actually had me curious as to how it would end. I so loved the storyline and the characters. The fabled stormdancers and stormsingers invade Marsis, but new legends, the Balarigar and the Stormslayer, rise up to defend the city. I only wish that the stormdancer had become a ghost, and Caina's ally. What a wonderful pair they'd make! The author really stepped up his game with this book, much more exciting and thrilling. I hope our next villain won't also dabble in necromancy though...
I really enjoyed this. I love how it starts off with a bang. War. Chaos. Hysteria. The detail of war is extremely compelling and puts you right on the battle field. As I said in the previous reviews, I'm a fan of Ark and I love the Ark chapters. He has turned badassary up 100%. I liked getting in his head. I enjoyed Kylon and his constant internal struggle, but I found myself missing Ark and Caina every time I'd read his chapters. As usual, an amazing story and the plot thickens leaving me no choice but to get Ghost in the Stone immediately so I can read what happens next.
I haven't read the miniature series, just the whole numbers But amongst all the ones I've read, though I'm at the finally of book 9, I will say that this is my favorite amongst the patterned writings the author usually does. Here's why:
1. The realization of Caina's efforts: when she basically saved the empire for how many times, it was in book 3 did I started calling out how she is basically not only a hero, but a saint. Gods forbid how much sorrow she had, without the close comforts of the family and the continuous jibes by the demon b*tch. Anyways, its good for Halfdan to finally not only see her as a tool but an individual whose heart was not always about murdering slavers.
2. Girl turned into Death herself: this one game me the chills alright. While still reading, I always kept finally seeing Caina holding Nikolai atop a roof amidst the flaming city, nightfighter suit on while starring back at Kylon. Face a masked humorless and only the void (Maybe I should draw a fanart...) Anyways, the author made me felt the true ferocity of Caina when both desperation, a short relief of the usual events, and the introduction of new dangerous characters came into play. The villains were unusually hard to defeat especially when there was a clearance of strength and Caina's only wits. The separation was fanning the flames and the surprise had made me jump
3. Game of Thrones called and they wanted the characters dead: possibly spooked me as I tried to hold on to my favorite characters
4. Arcion, my man: the greatest spot light for him to be in and he performed perfectly well. Character development came in to play as his usual brain had finally sought to be used. And he did. And I kept calling his name in the middle of the night for him to push forward.
5. He is cold. He is sexy. He is his sister's cinnamon roll, our boi KYLON!: f*ck it, I love him. And as the series progressed, I kept giving him my cheers whenever he shows up. The character development was icy if you get what I mean, after the other consecutive books. I felt our cupcake turned CAKE and I had to keep fanning my face. (Warning, the following sentences have spoilers!) I kept shipping him with our lady death but alas! Our ship has to shank 😖🤧 F*CKING PUNN INTENDED!!!!!!!!!
(Free from the spoilers) Yes. It was amazing. Just truly amazing! Thank you author for the wonderful series, hoping to finish the last book and then close it... as I cry myself to sleep for the loss of my boat out in the sea.
Book 4 of the Ghosts. spoilers ahead for the earlier books.
This one opens unusually, without Ghost business. Caina offers to take the five-year-old Nicolai to see the ships while his parents are busy. This means she is there when the invasion begins. . . .
His parents, at home, hear the screams, and Ark ends up organizing the nearest soldiers to fight.
It involves a bargain made a sword's point, an old enemy, a brother who does not want to believe that his sister practices necromancy, something that happened to Caina in the earlier books being revealed, a question of gates, stormsingers, and more.
This book was a mess of too many POV characters doing too many things all at the same time. Too much was introduced in this book, to the point where I had to sit back and wonder if most of this was going to come back again.
The narration was too bogged down with fighting. I think that the reason why I'd been enjoying the other books in the series was because they were about plotting and moving around. This was mainly just characters moving around until they had another big fight. Over and over this went on until the main bad guy (girl) killed herself because of her stupidity.
This 4th book as just like the 1st 3 didn't disappoint and kept you wanting more the more you read. This female heroine has been through a lot in her short lifetime and shown that she can sure handle herself. Of course, there have been times for which I've wondered if she would make it through at all. With each book in the series for which I read through I wonder how much more Mr. Moeller can put our young heroine through. I look forward to reading every last book in the series.
Only disappointment I've got so far with this series is whoever did some of the proofreading should be fired.
I really disliked the start of this story and the more I got into the book the more I hated it. I’m not sure why, as I have enjoyed all the previous books, but I certainly wasn’t interested in reading the story from the POV of the numerous Istarish and Kyracians. I read these books because of Caina, but this story was all over the place, so in the end I just had to accepted that this book wasn’t for me.
This book was a huge disappointment after the last 3 which were fantastic. The new kidnapping was unnecessary and really upset me. I almost stopped reading at that point. I still wish I did. I mostly skimmed through and hope that the next book is better.
So many points of view, I get lost and confused. This was worthless. Some authors have successfully written additional stories in separate books to show other stories, but to put all these in one book is confusing. Ark’s story could have been his own book and more successful.
I feel that Caina is losing her edge. Why all of a sudden is she tired of killing? No. This idea is weak and not her at all. She is strong and does what needs to be done. Giving her doubts and weaknesses is unacceptable. Again, if this continues, she is not the heroine I started reading this series for.
Really? Possession? Did we really have to go there? I mean, is the author out of ideas that he must give the main character an internal struggle and fight?

I enjoyed this segment of Caina's story very much. She really focused on rescuing her friend's son. Once again she had to rely heavily on her wits to vanquish enemies with mystical powers. The poor girl can't get away from necromancers.
I liked bringing in the stormdancer and stormsinger who hadn't been seen since the first novel, The Fall of Kyrace. Of course these two were generations later. I suspect we'll be seeing more of Kylon in the future.
Jadriga's follower Sicarion is creepy in many ways but his insistence that Caina is possessed by his deceased mistress is very eery.
Rezir Shahan is a putz.
Ark proved to be a leader of men and overrode Lord Corbould's orders.
Fantasy - this is the middle of a series. I would recommend reading the books that come before it BUT definitely at least the one immediately before it for this one to make sense. Lots of action in this book! I low key love that Caina rarely has a love interest. This book shows the more human side of her (and all of the characters, really). It switches between pov of caina, ark, and kylon- an invader from another country. The different perspectives are woven together well and create a comprehensive storyline of the battles and invasion happening across the city. Couldn’t put it down gripping story, great storytelling, great character development.
Dear Jonathan, still another entertaining and wonderful adult story in the continuing series of Ghost. China again despite impossible odds managed to overcome adversity and prevail once again. I highly recommend reading this adult series to anyone interested in reading a great story. Thanks again for a wonderful adventure and exciting action series.
This is the 4 th in the series. Brought at a different level, some new characters woven in with the old. This story is suppose to take over two days and what a wild two days it is. Liked the new characters bit just as excited about the next adventure.
This series keeps getting better and better. The characters and story are very strong and you'll fall for them. The story telling by this author is great and you'll keep turning the pages. Great Reading Everyone!
I stoped somewhere in the beginning and contemplated to not finish this book, but in the end it was really nice and I liked it. I listened to the audiobook and had boring work to do, that’s why I gave it a second try, but I’m glad I did.
I discovered this series through book hub emails and I was addicted after one book. The idea of the weary the broken hearted and the forsaken being the tru heroes is my favorite.
Still in Marsis after defeating the Moroaica and rescueing Ark's family, Caina and her fellow Ghosts suddenly find themselves in the middle of an invasion as a joint army from Istarinmul and New Kyre launches a surprise attack from within the city to lay claim to it and take its people as slaves. The relentless pace, ruthless action and POV switches between the characters allowing the reader to see the battles from different sides make this another brilliant read that is almost impossible to put down. Looking forward to the next part, and I hope we'll see Kylon again at some point.
So far this is my least favourite of all of the Ghosts books. I found the only excitement came in the last couple of chapters when the "baddie" was revealed and the rest of it was just a mishmash of different character's viewpoints but all primarily focused around fighting. I always enjoy reading from Caina's perspective, the rest not so much! Only a 2* for me - and this is also partly down to the poor grammar throughout!
This was a huge mix of fighting styles as well as following the adventures of three sides. I found it great fun to read but could do with the viewpoints being separated by a line before speaking as sometimes I struggled to determine that the characters had changed, it made it harder to read. I love seeing how Caina has changed but would love to see more of her changes not just her fighting skills.
now I feel the book is improving. In this The story you felt she was on a journey to find the kid and the fact she had little sleep and trying to stay alive as well made me also feel I was with her all the time, so much has improved since the 1st books, he still repeats himself and that becoming annoying like how she got her scars ect.... but still great like read to have
I really liked Ghosts in the Storm, aside from the Arc chapters. Arc's not a bad secondary character but I found his viewpoint chapters just kinda bleh, especially compared to Caina's and Kylon's chapters. Really liked Kylon as a character -- holding out hope that he comes back in later volumes.
Caina always finds herself in the wrong place but manages to kick some tail to save the world. Even though she doesn't have any magical powers, her ethical sense leads her to make the decisions that would ultimately save her humanity and the world.
