Ohmart did more than just provide charming anecdotal material for fans of The Bickersons. The author documents how creator Phillip Rapp treated The Bickersons as his rightful domain and protected it at every turn from those who would imitate or even parody his characters.
Of particular interest is a chapter regarding Jackie Gleason's "Honeymooners," a great show in its own right, that bears more than a small semblance to Rapp's Bickersons. Gleason's creation had the fortunate (or unfortunate) timing of coming along right when Rapp was looking to turn his creation into a prime time show, and Ohmart documents this back & forth excellently.
Right after having finished "The Bickersons," I set aside the library copy I'd read and went online to buy one for my home collection. Some books transcend mere entertainment, and Ohmart achieved this by crossing into the realm of the informative.
