Sir Arthur Ignatius Conan Doyle was a Scottish writer and physician. He created the character Sherlock Holmes in 1887 for A Study in Scarlet, the first of four novels and fifty-six short stories about Holmes and Dr. Watson. The Sherlock Holmes stories are milestones in the field of crime fiction.
Doyle was a prolific writer. In addition to the Holmes stories, his works include fantasy and science fiction stories about Professor Challenger, and humorous stories about the Napoleonic soldier Brigadier Gerard, as well as plays, romances, poetry, non-fiction, and historical novels. One of Doyle's early short stories, "J. Habakuk Jephson's Statement" (1884), helped to popularise the mystery of the brigantine Mary Celeste, found drifting at sea with no crew member aboard.
At the beginning the book was very interesting but when it changed mid way to the other story i was bored out of my mind. It took so much self convincing to continue it but im glad i did cause after it changed back to the original story it was very interesting again.
I'm a bit disappointed, i mean, i thought i knew Sherlock Holmes. He's like a constant archetype, ubiquitary, subconsciously present. But then, i never really read the original before, only a couple of short stories decades ago. My image, my notion of him Sherlock Holmes came from the TV.
The story itself was good enough, but it simply wasn't gripping. Sherlock Holmes isn't crime fiction, it's fantasy. His "analytical mind" is really a superpower, a magical, inexplicable talent. Once you accept that, it works rather fine.
Still, if that wasn't the original Sherlock Holmes, i'd never recommend reading it. I just read it because it's a classic, and i can see why, but it's a bit dusty. Not a bad read, yet i prefer modern trivia. And that's waht Sherlock Holmes is - old trivia.
In this book, Sherlock and John become roommates, and solve a murder case in which a woman in pick is found dead by poison. Sherlock finds that the cabbie did it. It's not very culturally different, they have a queen and speak with an accent and have different words for some things then Americans do, though. I'm not really sure what the authors purpose was for writing this book. The theme is mystery, and the supporting evidence is that the entire plot of this story was Sherlock solving a mystery. I would definitely recommend this book because I think we can learn a lot from Sherlock Holmes, he was definitely a genius.

I just read an interesting book, The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes by A. Conan Doyle. The story begins with A man named Jabez Wilson comes to Sherlock Holmes for a case to solve about a classified ad about the Red Headed League. The best parts of the story are the suspense, danger, and the mystery. The main character is Sherlock Holmes who is courageous, and clever. I liked this story because of the mystery and suspense. If you like books about mystery or suspense then I recommend that you read this book.
