Millions of fans have watched Amy Roloff prepare meals for her family over the past seven years of TLC's family-friendly reality TV show, Little People, Big World. Cooking for a family of six, Amy developed a lot of simple recipes that are easy for homemakers and moms to prepare. Cooking has also leveled the playing field when people of all sizes sit down and enjoy the good food she prepares. Now she has put some of the most requested and loved recipes, along with some of her own personal favorites, in this cookbook for everyone to make and enjoy. SHORT & SIMPLE FAMILY RECIPES contains 75 recipes from Amy’s kitchen with easy-to-follow instructions for preparation. Organized by courses and meals—For Starters, Breakfast or Brunch, Lite Lunch Fare, Time to Gather: Family Meals, Kids Corner, Simple Sides, and Sweet Endings & Baked Goodness—the recipes include mouthwatering, easy-to-prepare favorites such as Scallop Pesto Crustini; Crabby Cakes; Cowboy Eggs; Farm Country Omelet; Ham, Cheese, Turkey, and Avocado Panini; Southwestern Slaw; Amy’s Pork Fried Rice; Roast Pork with Spiced Apples; Mike D’s Hamburger Pie; Roloff Farm Rustic Peach and Berry Cobbler; Birthday Cake in a Bag; and Bananas Foster. The cookbook is illustrated in full-color with professional photographs of the food as well shots of the Roloff family farm and Amy cooking in her kitchen.

Amy Roloff's cookbook may be titled "Short and Simple Family Recipes", but those recipes are full of flavor! As one of the stars of the popular reality TV program, "Little People, Big World", Amy is a busy working wife and mother of four children. What you see on TV is just what you get in this wonderful cookbook, and family comes first for Amy Roloff. While Amy wrote the heartfelt acknowledgements & introduction, her mother and father wrote the very touching foreword for the book. I enjoyed the family insights and photos every bit as much as the tempting recipes and colorful food photos. Beginning with "Pantry Essentials", and then moving from "Starters" on through to "Simple Sides", and everything in-between, you will find seventy-five fun and fabulous recipes! Here are some of my favorites: "Baked Potato Slices"; "Farm Country Omelet"; "Lemon Scones with Homemade Blackberry Jam"; "BLT Salad"; "Quiche Lorraine"; "Roast Pork with Spiced Apples"; "Roast with Country Veggies & Potatoes"; "Pasta Carbonara with Peas"; "Bananas Foster"; and "Roloff Farm Rustic Peach & Berry Cobbler". Amy Roloff has written a cookbook where love is the key indgredient, with creativity and an expansive knowledge of food and food preparation included for good measure.
I was pleasantly surprised at all of the wonderful recipe choices in Short and Simple Family Recipe book.
I haven't completed all the recipes in this yummy little cook book but I have completed enough over the holidays to give a fair opinion. So far, the country omelet, baquette french toast and Cowboy eggs are my daughter's favorites. We are HUGE breakfast fans and all three of these recipes were very easy to follow.
For my annual Christmas get to together I tried the crab cakes and baked potato slices. Both recipes were absolutely delicious, everyone was raving and asking for the recipes. My favorite is the BLT Salad it's to die for.
I will update my review as I make more recipes but for now my rating is a 5 star.
*I was a lucky winner and received this book in a goodreads giveaway.
Short and Simple Family Recipes by Amy Roloff is a wonderful cookbook. It offers simple and healthy recipes that even my husband can follow. We have tried several recipes and they have all turned out great. In fact, we are going to attempt to make the mushroom goat cheese puffs this weekend for some guests.
I love the recipes and am going to try out as many as I can. I can't show it to my godmother without her telling me to put it away, I'm making her hungry XD.
~~Upadte~~ I tried the mini meatloaf recipe and my family loved it! *I received this book free through Goodreads First Reads*
I picked this book up at the library and found some really great, easy recipes in it. I'm not a good cook at all so easy is best for me. I thought I'd buy one to keep at home but they are selling the cheapest at around $35.00 used. I'll just copy down the recipes I like. I'm going to see if she has other cookbooks.
Great recipes from someone I admire. I have watched her and her family off and in for years, so I was excited to finally get my hands on her cookbook. It brings back memories and I cannot wait to try out some of her recipes.
This has all the things I expect in a cookbook: realistic recipies, good photos, and a few stories. I could realistically own this cookbook and not be disappointed. Certainly many of the recipies are variations of standbys in many American kitchens, but that makes this book seem accessible. There are some unique takes on classics and new ideas as well.
A personality-driven recipe book, but unlike most I've seen, the recipes here seem reasonable for a home cook. A nice variety of recipes featuring ingredients from chicken to fish to pork. I can't say why the book didn't please me.
