This is a needless book that is more divorce therapy than memoir. Mark Burnett's second wife spills some of the details behind the power-hungry TV producer, making him look like a smarmy jerk, while she exposes her own gigantic flaws.

The main problem is that the book is so poorly written. There are a number of major factual errors in the book along with insufficient details and huge gaps in her life story. Sometimes she'll just skip two years without saying what happened in between. At other ti

This book won't be a "Survivor". As a fan of the show Survivor and the Eco-Challenge adventure races, I was looking forward to reading a book with behind the scenes insights into these creations. I was disappointed. I should have waited until my library got this book and read it for free. The book lacks substance of any kind and even though I wanted to know the ending, it was a painfully slow read getting there. The author was whiny and annoying in her trying to prove to readers how much of a co ...more

One can’t help but admire both Dianne Burnett’s courage and her heart as she pours the story of her life into this unusual autobiography. She appears to do her best to be honest and fair as she details her role in the creation of the first big reality TV show, Survivor, and how her marriage to the driven man credited with the final product fell apart.

This book is not an angry tirade, or a plea for sympathy, and it could so easily have been either. Rather it is story of a woman struggling to main

All the elements are there—romance, adventure, betrayal, divorce—set against the backdrop of the world’s most exotic locales. The storyline alternates between the author’s childhood and adolescence on Long Island, New York and her globe-trotting adventures with television powerhouse Mark Burnett. An excellent storyteller, Dianne Burnett has provided an honest, often heart-wrenching, account of a fairytale marriage that didn’t survive the success and acclaim of the world’s most popular reality sh ...more

Back in the good old days before reality television became overrun with bouffant-haired Jersey girls and teens trying to race each other to the delivery room, Mark and Dianne Burnett conceived of televised entertainment that allowed audiences to see truly driven people battle it out with the elements and each other in some of the most gorgeous and exotic places on Earth. As the creators of Eco-Challenge and later, Survivor, Dianne Burnett shuffled her family literally around the globe to bring a ...more

The Road to Reality by Dianne Burnett, a Kindle book I began reading on December 21st between breaks at work. After much reading time being eaten up by school studies and idling time online, I purchased some Kindle books and decided to resume reading leisurely. Naturally, I'd eak back in with my ol' standard material: auto-bios.

Dianne is an adventurous soul, both as an ex-wife to reality show producing dynamo Mark Burnett and as a writer who leans heavily on adjectives, fond Americana memories,

Not badly written, but major parts are skimmable. Most of the book is all about the Eco-Challenges (which, most people don't remember or know about therefore is the least interesting). Some behind the scenes of Survivor, but mostly just boring stuff. Only the last handful of pages is about the divorce and the lessons of being on her own again. In fact, there is only a few paragraphs about being on her own. Would not recommend. ...more

I decided to switch things up a bit and read a non-fiction book. I believe People magazine recommended this. I liked it. Our journey through this life is never a smooth one so every once in a while it's nice to read another's story. I could identify with Dianne as both a mother and wife. It's easy to get so wrapped up in others lives by being supportive and cheerleading that you forget about yourself and what's important to you and accept and expect encouragement for your own endeavors. ...more

This book needed some serious editing, confusing words like "threw" and "through". The author had an interesting story to tell, but it was confusing the way she flipped from journal format, to her thoughts, to almost third person. Her marriage to Hollywood success story Mark Burnett was like an adventure on "Survivor", and she seemed surprised when it dissolved. ...more

A decently told life story. Not gripping erudite or imaginative, but an interesting true story about the creators of Survivor and a woman's growth through exile. ...more
