The fact that I know the author (and her personal story)perhaps adds to my thoroughly enjoyable experience of reading this remarkable memoir.... but the unusual experiences Mary expresses here are absolutely as exciting and entertaining in the book as they are when hearing them in person. I loved Mary's story. What a gutsy girl. She's my age exactly, but she certainly didn't take the easy road to her career--nor did she choose an easy career. I talked my husband into reading it, and he, too, is enjoying her unconventional decision making processes and Arctic adventures. I need to use the Internet to find out where she is now and what she's done since. Highly recommend this book, and I think it would be a good book for any young woman interested in a career in science.
