One of the things I like about Jeanette Levellie is that she can laugh at herself. She's not perfect, and she's the first to admit it. This book is packed full of her real life adventures, the happy and silly, the grouchy, and the downright challenging moments we all can relate to. Her friendly and engaging stories illustrate the wonderful spiritual parallels that we all trip over each day. She encourages us to laugh (yes, at ourselves), learn, and to sometimes stretch out of our comfort zone.

I am fairly sure that there is something that most everyone can relate to within these pages. Jen shares vignettes of her life - her marriage, children, friends, neighbors, and yes, even a run in with the law. More importantly though, we get to experience Jen’s feelings, convictions, and faith in God, not in a preachy or condescending manner, but with friendly, soothing, and encouraging words.

Jen’s writing has flavor of the very best kind. It’s a combination of humor, grace, wisdom, and authenticity. Growing in faith Jen’s way, I think, is a lot more fun than just gritting our teeth and muddling through. I highly recommend treating yourself to looking at life with Two Scoops of Grace!

Two Scoops of Grace with Chuckles was a delightful collection of devotionals based on the author's life. Using warm and often lightly humorous anecdotes, Jeanette Levellie was able to communicate wisdom and Biblical truth in a way that sticks with the reader.

Some of the little stories from her life were more interesting and humorous than others; however, they all came together very well in this delightful book. I know there were a number of times where I felt the Holy Spirit nudge me as I absorbed the lessons from Jeanette's experiences. One, in particular, hit home regarding a fast from complaining, in other words, turning what would have been a complaint into a prayer for the needs of another person. Good, simple, down to earth wisdom.

Each chapter begins with a relevant scripture, followed by an anecdote, and is summed up with two scoops and a sprinkle ... the three little lessons to be gained from the preceding story.

Anyone looking for a light, easy to swallow devotional would do well to read Two Scoops of Grace with Chuckles. Although not laugh out loud funny, it is definitely a day brightener, with a sprinkle of wisdom on top.

Writer and pastor’s wife, Jeanette Levellie pens humorous devotions with subtle biblical truth, wisdom and in some cases laugh-out-loud humor. Besides entertaining, the short quick-read narratives encourage readers to laugh at themselves and find God’s grace even in the midst of sometimes insensitive, unkind situations, people and events.

At the same time, narratives drive home a serious message, writes Dean Christensen of California State University that teach “God in his grace loves and accepts each of us unconditionally through Jesus Christ.”

Seventy-two short devotions feature a comic caricature cartoon illustration by Jeanette’s husband Ron and a focused bible verse. Narratives end with “Two scoops and a sprinkle,” which is a brief three point summary of what’s been read. Sandwiched in between are short stories with applications of biblical truth.

For example, in “From Hair to Eternity, the caricaturized illustration capture a woman’s frustration as a mirror reflects…Full Review: http://tinyurl.com/cbz7c4h

Ever been asked if you and your pastor husband have sex on Sunday, or wondered what a Crawzilla is? Ever have your spouse suggest you enter a pact on not over-reacting to problems? How about having to rename your favorite recipe from Chicken Breast to Chicken Chests to accommodate an embarrassed pre-teen son? Jeanette has a story for everything as she keeps us laughing and learning God's eternal wisdom. As a pastor's wife of many years she knows human foibles in and outside the church and with sparkling honesty and wit, writes a charming devotional to remind us God invented the sense of humor. I highly recommend this wonderful book to anyone wanting to chuckle and grow in Christ.

Two Scoops of Grace reveals the truth of God's Word with a tige of humor thrown in for good measure. It's an easy read, perfect for early morning bleariness, to help you focus on the Lord for the rest of your day. I found it often helped me see my day through the humorous rather than the horrendous.

Jeanette Levellie wants us to know right up front that God is a gracious God. He's perfect, but not a perfectionist. He watches over us, but not with an abacus to count our failures. Her stories, told in devotion style, could be read one a day (so you can savor them slowly) or as many as you like at a time. She's an expert storyteller so it may be hard to put this down.
One thing I will say, Jeanette has a keen wit. It's a gentle and kind wit. And it's most often at her own expense because she's learned to laugh at herself. She's a mother of two children and a pastor's wife. She has bright red hair which she claims can be as unruly as she is. (Believe me, Levellie is honest about her failings as much as she is about her love for God.) If I was a betting kind of gal, I'd bet she has oodles of friends who love being in her company.
In addition to the delicious fact that there's ice cream on the cover, the book is full of stories to which we can relate. Even if we're not a pastor's wife or have children. Even if we're brunettes or silver-haired beauties.
I'm guessing the target audience is women. But when you know men who occasionally wonder whether God is really there for them; whether His grace can forgive the messes they make; if the dreams they dreamed will ever come true; or the future holds any promise–Two Scoops of Grace is a book you might want to recommend.
The words "Grace" and "Chuckles" had to be in the title of this delightful book. Because, in this life, we desperately need them both.

Using humor and thought provoking anecdotes, this

Using humor and thought provoking anecdotes, this author expounds the life of a pastor's wife through trials and tribulations, with a format similar to a daily devotional. She brings to life personal issues that we may all face from time to time. These brief vignettes may bring smiles and perhaps tears at times, exemplifying our place as Christians on earth. Without getting "preachy" she teaches through colorful and interesting stories drawn from her daily encounters with others. She does use scripture and biblical references without becoming trite or boring. My spouse and I have enjoyed reading through this book every morning as we begin the day, and it brings a bright spot in our day.

I read this as a free Kindle unlimited selection. Although there was humor in some of the author's anecdotes, I would not classify it as primarily humorous. I found the author's devotionals very meaningful. Levellie shares Bible verses, personal stories from her life and then a devotional pertaining to the scripture and story. Her devotionals were some of the best I have ever read. I especially liked how they were written---very down-to-earth and so uplifting. She paints such a loving picture of God and how much love He bestows on His children. She also encourages the reader to avoid criticism, judgmental attitudes of both ourselves and others and reminds the reader that God loves us just as we are. It was a highly encouraging and enjoyable book. Would strongly recommend it to anyone wanting to find more joy in his or her Christian living.

I really enjoyed this devotional. She started out with a scripture, then shared a story from her life that related to the principle taught in the scripture, and then offered us 'two scoops': practical ideas about how to apply the principle in our lives. I love when a devotional author knows scripture and knows how to 'liken it' to their own life and apply the principles!

The author reminds you that we are human and guides us with her humor as well as humiliation. She’s wonderful with her observations. Jeanette reminds us that we are loved no matter what.

Scoops of life

A nice little book on God's influence on life. The little vignettes are a simple use of possible devotions on portraying Christian applications.
