Miloš: I like it and love it both because of the Pirate, and the Pirate bug should save the Queen bug.

Brontë: Yeah, and um...I like that too Lošie, I think it is cool that you thought of that. But I came up with this idea. Since it's cool how about the cat is the Queen's pet? And that is all.

Papa: But wait Të...there's no cat in this story.

Brontë: There was a bug that was pretending he was, there was a bug who was dressed as a black cat for Halloween.

Papa: Oops, you're right.

As these cheesy little learning to read books go, Scaredy-Pants : A Halloween Story is a strong representative of the genre.

It does an excellent job of presenting similar sounds, and although these are not genuine homonyms, they do teach children that "aw" can make the same sound as an "o" or that "ea" is the same sound as "ee."

The story also incorporates a number of sight words, like "said" and "asked" to which children will becoming increasingly familiar.
