I’m not sure I want to. The only way I can be normal again is if I find Sam. He’ll know what to do.

Four stars: Another tiny taste of things to come in the upcoming Charade.

Between, is a short novella that places you into the shoes of Logan, Sam's younger brother.  Logan finds himself going through the motions of day to day life.  Pretending that all is well, when inside he is screaming.  He is angry at the loss of his brother.  Bitter that is father abandoned Sam after his genetic mutation reared its head.  Confused that his mother didn't fight for Sam.  At school, things are just as bad.  He suffers at the hands of the school bullies.  Repeatedly coming home with bruises, while his parents somehow fail to see the marks.  Things are changing in Logan's world.  The pent up rage is slowly bubbling and pushing to the surface, he is on the verge of an eruption.  Logan begins to feel not quite right, strange dreams haunt him, and then he wakes up in the back yard.  The next day he hears some disturbing reports on the news, and he notices long scratches on his arm.  Logan is at a breaking point.  Will he, too, succumb to Sam's fate?

I enjoyed going to back into the world of Cambria Hebert's Heven and Hell series.  I liked seeing things through Logan's eyes and gaining a new perspective on Sam.  Watching Logan suffer made my heart ache.  I was cheering for him, and hoping he would find his way and learn to take a stand against the bullies and his overbearing father.  Between, is a quick and engaging read.  Once you finish you will be eager to find out what happens next.  I am hoping that Logan will play a prominent role in the upcoming book, Charade, the sequel to Masquerade.   I am anxious to see if Logan will be a help or a hinderance to Sam, especially when it comes to Heven and Sam's relationship.  I like Logan and hope things go well for him.

My only complaint, as with almost all novellas, is that just as the story is getting exciting it wraps, leaving you hungering for more.  If you are a fan of Masquerade, you will want to read this one.  Look for the exciting continuation of Sam, Heven and Logan's stories in the upcoming Charade.

I have to say that I really love the cover on this one.  It is my favorite of the series.

Ok, so, after a hell week I figure I am in the right mood to write the review for this book. LoL

The Plot – It’s an in between story, so is not that much great of a plot. It only shows us what was happening with Logan while Sam was with Heven and all hell broke loose. The relationship between Logan and his parents after Sam was erased from the family album and stuff like that.

The Characters – I hate Logan’s parents and I would punch them in the eye if I ever met them in person. That makes me wonder what the heck is wrong with the parents in this series? They suck! I mean, they are so dumb and shortsighted they wouldn’t see a wall before their eyes. But maybe my outrage has to do with the fact that I love my dad and that he would never cast me away. Yeah, that’s probably it. Logan got me on my nerves in the beginning, but I felt for him too much to let that get in the way. I like the bitch ( I let you guess who I’m talking about LoL) she is evil and a little crazy, but she has personality. I like that in the characters, good or bad alike.


The Writing – It’s still jumping like in the previous books. That gives us the multidimensional vision that allowed us to see in more than one angle and also to makes us shrike with curiosity. LoL


Considerations – I always felt that Logan was somewhat odd, but now I’m even more curious about him. I already know what the heck happened to the bitch, but what I don’t know is who is the mastermind behind all of it. To who that evil whisper belong?
Well, I guess I’ll have to wait till I read Charade. LoL

This is a short story that fits between the first book in the series and it's much anticipate sequel, Charade. If you haven't read the prequel, Before, or book 1, Masquerade. Sooo..... onto Between....

In Between we get to know of Sam's younger brother's experiences between the time Sam was forced to leave and when Logan catch's up with Sam. The events that unfold are engaging and heartbreaking as Logan faces the same rejection Sam experienced. The story is a teaser for book 2 thus it crescendos into a tantalizing revelation leaving us anxious to get our hands on Charade.

I love Logan and look forward to his increasing role in this series. Cambria Hebert does an exceptional job developing both story line and character in so few words.

Read this series in order. There's a lot of surprises and mystery that would be ruined otherwise.

I cannot gush enough about the covers to this series!!! Captivating! And I am a huge fan of (and, yes a big dork about) themes being carried from one book cover to the next in a series. Between's cover doesn't disappoint. Being Logan's story, it's more masculine, but elements from the first 2 covers are utilized to bring that unity I love. Look close at this cover. There's a big hint there you don't want to miss. I LOVE that!!!!

Between Review on K-Books

Wow. Cambria has done is again and completely blew me away. This short novella has left me wanting more and I cannot wait for the second book in this series.


Between is a short novella in the world of Before and Masquerade. In Before and Masquerade we saw everything from Sam and Heven, this time we see things from Sam's brother, Logan's point of view. Logan misses his brother Sam and will do all he wants if for him to come back. When something unexplainable happens to him he knows Sam is the only one who could understand. In a mission to find his brother Logan has to deal with the darkness rising inside of him. But can he fight it? Or is he destined to give in to the darkness?

I really enjoyed this novella. I loved the prequel, Before, and then first book, Masquerade, in the Heven and Hell series and I couldn't wait to read more. I was really curious about Logan when he came into the story and I loved reading this short novella and finding out more about him.

Cambria has this amazing talent to just suck you in from the first page and I read the novella in one sitting. There are points in the novella where I just had to keep reading as I couldn't believe what was happening. Believe definitely made me re-think my opinion on Logan and I am definitely left reeling wondering what is going to happen in Charade.

This is a must-read for any fan of the series and as much as I am looking forward to getting back to Sam and Heven I did really enjoy this novella.

Between is the story of Logan, Sam's brother, while he starts turning into a hellhound and then his decision to leave home and find his brother.

Even if this was so tiny it was really good. I really enjoyed reading about Logan, cause we didn't know much about him from Masquerade and we finally saw Sam's family. And oh my, what a hideous family, his dad is a serial killer in the making (I watch way to many Criminal Minds lately). I would have run away too if I was Logan.

Anyways, it was really good, with a small "twist" in the end, which I was partially expecting reading Masquerade. Now I can't wait for the next book, Charade. I really missed Sam, his point of view is the best!

It's good to read from Logan's Pov..to see his life after sam left ..how much he missed sam n how turning into something which he didn't made him suffer..
But i don't like his intentions...coming in BETWEEN Sam n Heven?Hmmmm..Well what's a story without some twists n turns..i hope Sam n Heven overcome it ;)

When Cambria approached me about reviewing the latest book in her Heven and Hell series I was super excited, not only do I absolutely love this series but her new novella Between was going to be all about Logan, Sam's younger brother.

Ever since learning about him in Masquerade I have been super curious about him and his story and I couldn't wait to dive in and learn all about him.

I knew the story was going to be good because he just had this weird mystery surrounding him in Masquerade. I hate to say it but I was afraid that maybe he might have even been a little corrupt, like maybe there was more to him showing back up in Sam's life than what he mentioned. It seemed so convenient that he showed up at the time that he did, with Sam and Heven's mission under way.

Not to mention the fact that I was also hoping to get a glimpse into Sam and Logan's parents, especially their dad. I mean, who wouldn't be curious about how a parent could treat their sons the way he did and not want to see if there was any guilt or remorse there?

I should have known Cambria would do this brilliantly, tell us Logan's story without giving away it all. Making us want more and be even more curious than when we started. Eliciting even more questions and worries and anxiety over what will happen next. . That she would make the wait even more unbearable with want over when the next book will be out.

In short, she is a tease.

Teasing us with the greatness that is her writing but kind enough to give us this little glimpse into what is sure to be a pretty darn amazing next book.

Ok, I am a total fan of Ms Hebert, but this little novella just seals the deal! I love it! She took a character that didn't have a "voice" and gave him one! Or, I should say, he isn't a major character until now, as he only "shows up" toward the ending of the first book. And boy, was I surprised. I think I have a completely different outlook on Logan! Logan is Sam's baby brother, yes I will give that one part away, but I cannot tell you anything about them, as it's their stories to tell and you have to read the book to find out :) Sam's so good and sweet and I am trying to see if Logan is going to have this same disposition or if he is going to be trouble :) What if I predict trouble, LOL, because ya know, it's always the little brother that causes trouble :) And I really wanna see what he does with the "advice" he is given at the end of this story... Yeah, I'd like to zap that person (giving the advice) with my lazer light pen... LOL, I don't have any cool weapons, so it's that, or stab them with an unsharpened pencil :) HA! It's a fantastic addition to this story line! 5 paws from me :)

A life living in the shadows. Logan is a senstive teenager who is doesn't feel a place of comfort. He gets picked on at school and his homelife is a place where everyone walks on egg shells. For this bridge short story between Masquerade and sequel in the series the readers gain a new prespective into Sam's little brother's head in addition why Sam is wounded. When we first met Logan the readers are left with so many questions as to why he was such a mystery and what kind of parents could kick their children out in that matter. Cambria creates another story where the readers are able to get into the character's head so well that you feel for him and for the journey that he has been thrusted upon...as the readers are left for wanting more...

The story is written really beautifully. Cambria has a nack for creating these characters that has the readers feeling for them. Parts of the story will have the readers wishing to hug Logan as he has an inner tormoil. If you just finished reading Masquerade and plan on reading the second book I would strongly suggest reading this between them (no pun intended ;) )!

This was an okay short story, I felt quite sorry for Logan in the way he had to deal with bullies at school, and then deal with his father at home as well. It was also a shame that he turned into a hell hound exactly the same as Sam.

This is a cute short that gives us insight into a character who has quickly become very integral in the series. Poor Logan is so lost and misguided. What happens when he catches up to big brother Sam?? I’m rooting for happy ending for Logan. Off to find out his future holds.

FYI: This book must be read in order or it will ruin what happens during the first book of this series.

As with many of the books I read and review, I did not read the blurb about this book prior to reading it. I didn't want to taint myself in any way. I also did not read any reviews until I had finished the novella. So, I really had no idea what it was about and only learned right before I finished the first book (and from the author no less) that this book was about Sam's brother!

I really love the cover of this book. It totally captures what happens in the novella. I love it when the cover theme matches what is inside the story!

I have to say that I like Logan's character. I was totally intrigued when Hebert introduced him at the end of Masquerade. He seems likeable enough, however, I don't trust him. I think there is lot more going on with Logan than we have seen so far, and hopefully Charade will show us some of that. I think he is tangled up in things that he just can't understand or begin to explain. I think he's going into a relationship with his brother with false knowledge and that can only serve to complicate his being in the picture to begin with.

And what is with the "voice" in his head? Does he have a bond with someone and not know it yet? I am curious to find out!

This was an entertaining short story. It's obviously meant to be a bridge between the author's first and second novels, which I haven't read, and although it would have been nice to have read book one, the story can stand on its own.

Logan is a kid with lots of issues. He is bullied at school on a daily basis, his mom is a mouse and his dad is controlling and overbearing (maybe even abusive, but that is just hinted at). The biggest problem is that a while before, his dad took his older brother on a drive and came back without him. Basically kicking him out of the house and then not allowing anyone to mention he ever existed. Since he was Logan's buffer from the rest of the world and his best friend, this has been very difficult. Especially since he is now experiencing the same symptoms that got his brother kicked out. He's slowly turning into a hell hound.

The premise of this story was quite original. I did enjoy the twisted family dynamics and wanted Logan to get one over on his dad. I also wanted to strangle the mom for not standing up to her husband when her kids were being treated like they were. The author did an excellent job building up and explaining Logan's feelings.

The only thing I can fault is that the story is too short. I think more time could have been spent on Logan's adventures after he runs away from home, but the author wraps that up to quickly. Also, (and I realize its a lead in not a book on its own) when Logan runs into another hell hound, the action and meeting are also wrapped up to quickly and it doesn't seem quite real. The girl knows his brother, but leaves him sitting on the street because she has a date. Anyone with a heart would have taken the poor kid to his brother, whipped out a cell phone and said they were going to be late.

All in all, the story left me wanting to read more of the story, (on both sides) and that's what it should do.

“Between,” the new teaser to “Charade” by Cambria Hebert, allows Logan, (Sam’s younger brother) to add his frightful experiences to the “Heven and Hell Series,” which also includes “Before” and “Masquerade.” This novella transports readers to Logan’s hellish world where supernatural events lead to murder, and a beautiful—but deadly creature, pits Logan against Sam’s beloved Heven. A peek into Logan’s past makes it possible to understand why he sees the world as he does and why Sam’s sad departure from his family changed them all. A sense of doom found in Logan’s dark dreams, that are all too real, tell the tale of a boy who cannot stay home, but has nowhere to go…except to find Sam.

Although some questions are answered in this novella, more arise as I wonder how Logan will react to the lovely Heven, and will Sam be able to tell that Logan’s been poisoned by jealousy? Will Logan be smart enough to see Sam will not exist without Heven, or will Logan merely compete for Sam’s affection not realizing enough love dwells within Sam for them all? I’m hoping Heven is ready for a fight, because it will not only be Logan who is gearing up to destroy her.

Yes! “Between” is an exciting, fast-paced teaser that certainly fuels my curiosity about all of the characters involved in Hebert’s “Heven and Hell Series.” In “Before” and “Masquerade,” Sam was the character who most intrigued me, but Logan is a determined character to watch as well. I’m looking forward to reading “Charade,” and now that I’m acquainted with this series, I expect lots of excitement from dangerous situations, plus Sam and Heven’s romance will (hopefully!) explode in a realm of fantasy that manages to stay hidden in the world as we know it.

My Overall Thoughts/Impressions: First off, I'd like to thank Cambria for giving me a copy of this to review.

Secondly, if you haven't read Masquerade (Heven and Hell, #1), go read it right now. It is absolutely beautiful. My review of Masquerade can be found here for those who are interested.

In an earlier review, I already mentioned that Cambria Hebert has become synonymous for a great read. That holds true. I absolutely adored reading this short story, which is a little shy of 40 pages. Cambria has a way of crafting characters that I absolutely love and writing in a way that sucks me into the story.

I enjoyed reading this short story from Logan's perspective. Logan came into play near the end of the Masquerade and I was curious and wanted to learn more about him. I loved the way Cambria expounded his character in Between. This short story helped me understand Logan's character and made me even more interested in reading Charade, the sequel to Masquerade which comes out in May 2012.

Cambria's writing is always top-notch and this short story is incredible. I definitely recommend buying this one. It comes out in two days so be sure to go download this one then.

In Summary: Cambria Hebert has done it again. Her flawless writing and art of creating a story I will love has become a given. Definitely recommend this short story and anything by her.

I very much enjoyed this short story from Logan’s point of view. I know I’ve said it several times, but I feel it bears repeating: It is so satisfying to read a novella! To be able to finish a story in a short sitting is one of my most favorite things in the world. This is the second novella of Cambria’s that I have had the pleasure of reading. I think of them as delicious little appetizers - they temporarily tide you over, but leave you longing for the main course.

I love the cover of Between, especially since I’ve been on a “no-more-girls-in-flowing-dresses” campaign. I enjoyed the introduction of Logan in Masquerade, but I confess, I was a bit skeptical of him. Between answered several questions I had about Sam’s younger brother, and I liked getting a peek into Sam and Logan’s background and family life. As with any great story, Between answered some questions, but left me with more than I started out with, which has me eagerly anticipating Charade! I’m going to leave it at that and not provide any more details, as to avoid spoilers.

Between is available in ebook format on April 20, 2012, and it’s just what you need to whet your appetite for Charade, expected publication date May 18, 2012.

I'll admit, I still haven't read Book 1 in the Heven & Hell series, but reading about Logan has got me even more interested in picking up a copy of Masquerade! :D

Okay.. well Between is the short-story of Logan, Sam's little brother. And how he's dealing with life after his brother was kicked out of the house for changing into a hellhound. His parents pretend like Sam never existed, which is pretty sad and irritating. I find it hard not to hate Logan's parents, and seriously with their ignorance and reluctance to help their children when they're needed most, I found myself cheering when Logan just about punched his father for being a prick. & Someone please smack the mother for me! x] Lol.

It seems that in Masquerade, Logan suddenly shows up into Sam's life, and Between tells the story of how and why that happened. Seems, Logan and Sam have much more in common then just sibling blood. I'm intrigued to find out what Logan's role is going to be in his brother's life, I hope it's good cause now I'm hyped! xD Lol

Review:
This short novella, about 33 pages long, is an introduction to how Logan lived before his story as a Hellhound starts. His seemingly normal life, where he's the product of overbearing parents who are trying undeniably to pretend their lives away and ignore their dirty little secret that their oldest son is a Hellhound, is about to be turned upside down, again. Logan being bullied at school, stressed out by his parent's fake life and his own changing body sends him off in search of the one person who could possibly understand..what being a Hellhound is like.

In just a short few pages, Hebert has pulled my into this story and Im excited to catch up on all the books. She has a creative mind and a wonderful way to tell a story. Based on several reviews, Im looking forward to reading the first book in this series, Masquerade.

I always have troubles with writing reviews of short story, but I am going to try again. Between is a short story that tells the story of Logan, sam's little brother. In the first book Logan sudenly pops up and I couldn't help but wodner where he came from and why he was there. I also was a bit suspicious about him. In this short story we get to see Logan's side of the story.

I really liked getting to see Logan's perspective, it was short, but it was long enough to get a sense of who Logan was and why he made the descision to find his brother. I really felt for Logan, he has a hard time and then suddenly he is changing too. This short story also raises some questions. I definitely am more interested in logan now I've read this story. I would certainly recommend it to read this short story if you liked book 1. It's a nice way to get to know more about Logan.

To conclude: a nice short story that gives us some insight in Logan's life. I liked seeing his side of the story. And when reading this story I got sucked into the story again and now I really want to read the next book, I can't wait to read it.

I struggled to give this short story a rating, overall, I thought it was okay but I definitely did enjoy reading it. I do think the story would be better if I had read the first book because it would give you a better understanding of the characters and the story plot.

I found that the story wasn't completely my cup of tea, it really just wasn't the type of story I enjoy reading. However, having said that, I didn't struggle to get through the story and I found it easy to read. I thought the style of writing was fantastic, it was quite different from a lot of other books but it was a good different. In particular, I enjoyed the way in which she described the emotions he was going through and the thoughts running through his head.

I would still recommend the short story to anyone who enjoys YA fantasy in a modern setting because her writing really is great, the main issue for me was just that it wasn't my type of book so it didn't make me super excited and I wasn't sucked into the story.

To start i have never read an extra book i have only read what's in the series: #1, #2, #3 and so on but never novellas. However, after reading Between i think i'll read them in the future. Between was a journey to explore Sam's brother. It was interesting to see what he felt.

The story is about how Logan feels about pretending. He feels fed up of his dad and how his mum never helps him. Angry about Sam running away. And school isn't going the right track. With all this happening, at the same time, Logan isn't feeling well. He knows what's happening but can't help but hope for the better. But after feeling fed up on how his life is he runs to find his brother, Sam.

Betwen is an interesting novella to read. It shares the feeling of Sam's brother Logan. By the end of this novella i couldn't but crave for the upcoming book after Masquerade!

I love, love Cambria Hebert! Such a talented writer! If you haven't read "Masquerade" yet, you should. It is book one in the Heven and Hell series. Also there is a prequel called "Before" that you should read.

At the end of "Masquerade," Logan joins up with his brother and Heven...the three of them trying to make their special circumstances work. "Between" is a short story that tells us how Logan transitioned into what he is and how he found Sam. It shows his emotional struggle with those he lives and goes to school with, and his insatiable need to reunite with his brother.

Reading this short story made me desperate to read Charade. It may just be the next book on my list. :)

Having briefly met Logan when I read Masquerade, I was very excited to see I would get to read a bit of his back story. Let me tell you, Ms. Hebert did not disappoint! This story moved at a fast pace, keeping me guessing even as the answers to my questions were presented. Some of my suspicions from Masquerade were confirmed, making me nervous and anxious for Charade to come out.
Between was the perfect novella between the two Heven and Hell novels. I enjoyed it immensely, especially finding the many meanings to the title. ;-)
Having read two stories from Ms. Hebert, I can confidently say I am a fan for life. Her writing is engaging, her characters are real and her stories are extraordinary!

I give Between FIVE STARS and recommend to anyone who loves paranormal stories.

This short little novella is a great insight into what happened to Logan before we are introduced to him at the end of Masquerade and I really enjoyed it. I really felt I got a glimpse into what his life had been like, how miserable it was and it helped me emphasize with him a lot more than I had before when I'd read Charade because I read these books out of order lol.
I think its a lovely little addition to this great series and whilst your not missing anything major in regards to the storyline if you skip this, it does give you a better prospective on Logan and for that I think it's worth picking it.

Novellas are not something that I am ever truly blown away by, but this was a good one. It met its purpose, I know more about Logan’s background and why he appeared cagey when he first met up with Sam and Heven, and I can’t wait to read Charade.

I like Logan. I didn’t at the end of Masquerade, I didn’t trust him. Whether I will still like him by the time I’ve finished reading Charade, we will have to wait and see. I’m still not sure if I would trust him, but I like him, and I really feel for him. God love him, he is a messed up kid. I’m really looking forward to seeing how his character develops in Charade.

Interesting brief peak into the series. Since I have not read the other books I am not sure what to think. Poor Logan has a lot to deal with. Trying to live up to his dad’s expectations proved useless since he couldn’t help how things worked out any more then his older brother Sam could. Fate had dealt them a hand his parents couldn’t, or wouldn’t, deal with. The dynamics going on in that house were enough to make anyone want to leave. I enjoy Cambria’s writing style and this bridge story peaked my curiosity to learn more about Sam and Heven, which may lead me to read the rest of the series
