Nice start to a funny and light mystery series. This series takes place in New York in 1986,where Jeremy Bent, or JB as he called is awaken early in the morning by his hysterical ex.The ex in question is Len Matthews and between bouts of crying he utters the word blood.JB being a good friend and still caring for his ex showers and dresses and heads to his ex's apartment.JB doesn't know what to think, Len was a handsome actor who soap was a hit years ago but the show was cancelled.Len has become an alcoholic ( which led to their break up) and more concerned with a bottle of liquor than getting an acting job. When JB arrives he discovers a body of a woman dead in his bathtub.Len realizes it his nosy neighbor and wonders how she got there. We wonder also, and JB who is a successful mystery writer decides to investigate.Great start to a mystery series that is both fun and funny. This I s definitely a good read!
The story is a gay twist on English cozies. Where all the suspects are confined to a single location (in this case an apartment building in New York). There are some grammer mistakes, but I find the same mistakes in almost every book I read now-a-days, so I decided to stop being an English teacher and let the author take me on the ride he wanted to. And it is quite a fun ride. A set of interesting and varied characters populate any one of which could be the culprit. Even the victim is funny in this one. The detective is a writer who comes to the aid of his best friend. The book was fun and funny to read. Wit and sarcasam reign, and this one is the first in what so far is a five book series. Looking forward to the next one.
A good story, inventive and fun. But this writer needs to learn the basics of English grammar before he publishes. Until he does, he can't have more than 1 star from me.
