It had been awhile since I read the first book. Thankfully I remembered enough so I wasn't lost. It's nice that we are starting to learn more about what actually happened with Lucas and Louis. Unfortunately it will probably be awhile before we know everything and it gets taken care of.

The good...

I liked this book even more than I did the first, Bound. There was far more depth to the characters and the story was darker and richer for it. The spirits were even more involved in this story, and Arelia' s interactions with them really added to the book. The love triangle between Lucas and the two girls gave some good romantic conflict, too.

I liked that Arelia, despite being a voodoo queen, was still a teenage girl with all the angst and ups and downs that go with teenhood. She wa

Arelia LaRue is still at Darkwood "working", still fighting with Ivan, and still attracted to mysterious, cursed Darkwood-owner Lucus.

If you haven't read the first book, the instant plunge back into events might throw you off a bit.

All the things I liked in the first book of the series are here, too; interesting Voodoo/Hoodoo spirits with tricky personalities, brooding angst from Lucus, and Arelia's spunk in navigating the tricky waters of magic in African/Hoodoo mythology. I enjoyed the focus o

Its very rare that a second book of a series keeps me captivated as much as the first. Usually something gives in the wrong place or a character gets too cocky, but Punished held its own exactly as Bound did. Gorgeous writing, beautiful scenery, sumptuous food, shocking history and lots of wonderful romancing made this read highly enjoyable.

This book starts exactly as the previous book ends. Bound ended with Lucas, the hot mysterious guy opening his bedroom door. Punished begins with what happen

So many errors! I will proofread any of the author's future books for free! It was too much.

It has been a while since I read the first book in the series and either I've changed or the main character is completely different now. I described Arelia as strong and smart in my review of the first book. And in this book I found her annoying and so stubborn she comes off as stupid and lacking common sense. I really did not like her and I couldn't connect with her.

The use of the cliffhanger is a bit mu

This book is so much better then the first book!! The characters have more depth to them and I'm not as annoyed by our leading gal :) this story is getting so good! Though these books aren't super wonderful they still have me coming back wanting more!! Im actually sad that I have to wait until may to read the next one!

Another great book. Although I really like this series so far I feel like its some what short. I would like of it were slightly longer. The characters are great, and lots of twists. I can't wait to see what the next book is going to bring. Wish it would come out ASAP!!!!

Firstly as always with me, cover appreciation. I do love a good cover. We all know I am picky. But this cover is definitely one of my favourites. I was lucky enough to do the cover reveal previously on my blog so I saw it before it was released. I opened the email with it attached and said to Kira "Oh my goodness, I love it". I thought the cover for BOUND was great and this is very in-keeping with that. I've never been a fan of the colour green and I suppose you could argue that this isn't exact ...more

This second book was just as well written as the first; however, I thought she brought the reader into the story more by having Louis send her back to the past. I couldn't figure how this book was going to end, but I should have. It ended excitedly on a cliffhanger. If you want to know the results you'll have to buy book three, which I plan on doing. Excellent story. This writer is very talented.

I like that there's just a continuation at the beginning and cliff hangers at the end!

Punished is book two in The Arelia La Rue Books. I absolutely love the spook factor in these books. It has a great balance and does catch me off guard. I get the hairs on the back of my neck standing on end with every installment of this Voodoo-esque series.
Arelia is pretty much in over her head and the spirits are restless. The creepiness of the old plantation and what's going on there are epic. The book liter

After really liking Bound, I was really expecting to like Punished. Which I liked, but not as much as I thought I would.

One thing I really love is the focus on voodoo/hoodoo, which is something I haven't come across. So it's pretty freaking awesome that a paranormal series set in New Orleans actually focuses on one of the things that come to mind when I think of New Orleans. I liked seeing Arelia work with more spirits, and how she got pulled in to the history of Darkwood. We see a bit of Lucas'

This was okay. Not as good as the first I'm sorry to say but it did keep my attention and I did enjoy it enough to keep reading until the end. First off, when this book started I got confused! What the heck happened from the end of book one until the beginning of this book? I was the next summer correct? So an entire year went by and what? See this is where I got extremely frustrated. It seemed to just continue on from the last book but with this big gaping hole in the middle. Also, the characte ...more

I read this kind of blind. I don't remember much from the first book and there was inadequate reflection done in this book to piece together a lot of what I was missing.
But that didn't stop this book from being really predictable. I knew Louis' identity in the first book, so it pissed me off that it took as long as it did to get to that. Nothing in this book was surprising.
Arelia did not act her age. And she surely didn't act like someone to be respected in any aspect of this book. She w

This book really let me down. I enjoyed Bound to an extent. This book just seemed like a really strange filler book or something. It starts off confusing, and ends in an even more abrupt and confusing manner. I didn't know it was possible to hate the characters even more than I did in the first book, but I did. Aralia is a whiny brat with absolutely no respect for anybody. I wanted to slap her. She has no respect for the people trying to help her, she has no respect for the spirits, and no respe ...more

I noticed more editing errors in the second book than the first, but not enough to detract from the story, in my opinion.

The book titles are apropos. They give a sense of the overall theme of each book, so far.

We start to unravel the mystery that is Ivan. We are also introduced to some new minor characters who add to Arelia's back story. We get to meet some more loa (spirits). Other than that, there's not a whole lot to report about book 2. I don't feel like the story got very far, which was m

I enjoyed book 2 of this series more than the first. Arelia was a little more grown up - don't get me wrong, there is plenty of teen angst and whining - but she seems to be putting aside some of her 'rich people are bad and must have perfect lives' mentality. She still jumps to conclusions and doesn't always think things through, but hopefully that will get better. The canary was one of my favorite characters since he actually said most of the things I was thinking about her whining.

So, this earns an extra star because, despite there still being all the issues of the first book regarding the characters' personalities and predictability, some of the editing issues were worked out. Sadly, it loses that same star because someone needs to tell this author that you don't just spin a globe and move to wherever your finger lands. Nor do you randomly select a scene and end a book without tying up at least some of the loose ends. There is little doubt in my mind that the four (more? ...more

Another easy read. I'm hooked on the characters and love that the story is unpredictable. At first I thought the story was just about Arelia gaining the knowledge of voodoo and possibly falling in love with the owner of the plantation. However, there are so many different twists within the mysteries that are being uncovered as Arelia attempts to save the people she cares about the most.

I still can't categorize this completely as a Paranormal Romance. Though the main characters are falling for ea

Well I couldn't wait to read this book so I would know what happened with the characters. It took me a full day to completely read this book and I almost threw my kindle when I was finished. There were huge typos, the main character's name was misspelled half way through the book, the book was delayed for release due to editing on the author's part, but alot of mistakes were not caught. I was so mad with how it ended. Bound had no closure, but Punished not only didn't have closure it left you mi ...more

First of all., I loved the cover, and I also liked how she just continued along with the series, instead of like recapping to much.
Anyway, it was like the same with the first book. Same format and style which was ok.
Overall I liked reading the book.
In the back of my mind, I keep thinking its going to get good. Then it's like OMG, that bastard, why. It's like a love triangle when they won't give up emotionally but they keep thinking with their head instead of their heart. This must sound confu

I like the storyline of these books Love Lucas hate Sabrina shes just a shallow jerk honestly. Arelia is soo rude and violent!!! I found her very annoying as the story went on. She started to redeem herself towards the end and I found it great that Sammie actually started giving it back to her and was rude I found it comical. One other thing I found to be extremly annoying that In the back of everyone of these novels it says not a trilogy Really?!?! unless there is going to be 4 parts to this bo ...more

Ok, so I always knew who the "ghost" was, but that didn't even come within the realm of marring my utter enjoyment of this novel. Arelia grows not only a person, but reluctantly faces her blessing and her life...past and present. The characters are so well developed, it's hard to imagine that one can discover more about them, but you do. The spirits are horrifying, funny, and endearing, while being completely frustrating. It's no wonder poor Arelia is so damn confused! I'm eagerly anticipating t ...more

This is the first time in a long time that I read a book in only 24 hours. Much like, "Bound", "Punished" takes you further down the worm hole of love, sacrifice and voodoo. Arelia's journey of self-discovery continues as her life becomes more complicated with her feelings for Lucas and her "love to hate" relationship with Ivan/Louis. Book 2 certainly didn't disappoint. Kira Saito has quickly become one of my favorite authors. If you haven't checked the Arelia LaRue series out yet, what are wait ...more
