Chase has been in orchestra since the 4th grade. Chase and his good friend Jenny are hoping for a spot in the Sixth Grade Honors Orchestra. The honors orchestra gets to travel to different performances, complete in state music championships and best of all they get to wear really cool jackets. As it stands, Mrs. Washington and her committee don't just let anyone into this group, they have to earn it.

There is another issue lurking in the shadows that can keep Chase from his goal. If the cello on

CHASE AGAINST TIME grabbed both of my children. I have twins who are ten -- a boy and a girl -- and they both wanted more after reading this book. They reported to me that the action and characters were gripping and they're looking forward to Chase Manning's further adventures. Kudos to Steve Reifman for creating a world that appeals to both boys and girls.

Rather unbelievable yet page-turning mystery for grades 3-5. Nothing to make it stand out but it would probably hook very young mystery buffs. Also the beginning of a new mystery series which would be appropriate for boys or girls.

Didn't love it, didn't hate it. Some clunky sentences - "Merely attend, I did not." (p138). Red herrings but the actual bad guy has a pretty weak motive.
