I recently received a copy of “The Spanish Colonial Settlement Landscapes of New Mexico, 1598-1680” from Elinore Barrett, the author. Although I read large portions of the manuscript before publication, I jumped right into reading the book from beginning to end. It’s a remarkable study of a subject and era for which there are many missing records. It is always interesting to read about your ancestors. However, this book was so amazing. It provides maps of actual landholdings and various lists. To actually see names of ancestors on those documents was very exciting. Plus, the stories and details and descriptions of the areas they settled in gave you such a clear picture you could actually place yourself there.
