The gates of Hell are open. Angels and Demons fight for our mortality and dominance of earth. The rapture diminishes the human population and very few remain to defend what God gave us. It is up to the Angels to fight the war, the humans to survive and the druids to protect the earth.
Cole wants nothing more than to be left alone until the war is over and see who wins. He doesn't care for rules of any kind and wants least of all to choose a side. Fate however, has different plans for him. His only friend is being held hostage by a Demon with a plan to win the war and return the earth to what it once was. It is up to him to rescue her with the help of a fallen Angel who comes to his aid to ensure his survival.
The Druids are the only ones who can save his friend, but they have an agenda of their own. The demon is demented but has the best intentions with what she believes. Cole finds himself lusting after the fallen Angel and must choose between her and saving his friend. The problem is that he doesn't know who he can trust.
Armageddon is here and Hell on earth has just begun.
The end of the world has happened as predicted and now angels and demons roam the earth for control. There’s a bounty out on Cole’s head and he doesn’t know why but they hold his boss/friend hostage till he is brought in. An angel, Vera has befriended Cole and has become a protector of sorts to him to lead him to his friend to save her. He’s not sure what he is being hunted for. His only wish is for survival and to help those around him now. Will he be strong enough to save Nikki? Will he find the answers he is looking for? This story is told thru the eyes of Cole and very well described. There are many details given as to his surroundings by his own account. Mr. Daniels takes us into a world that we have heard can happen and allows us to experience everything first hand. As a new writer, he has a very promising future. I look forward to reading more from him.
I was contacted by the Author, Benjamin Daniels, to review this book. He told me that the proceeds that he gets from the sale of Hell’s Gate he donates to charity. So I read the description and thought that it sounded like a good read as I enjoy stories involving Angels and Demons. What I really found was a well written book, with an addictive plot that was full of action!! And if you have read my reviews before, you know how much I crave action!
Cole is a human and he works at a bar for his friend Nikki. The difference between his world and ours is that his is filled with Angels and Demons who have bought their fight to earth and humans have been the casualties. Most of the remaining humans have moved to the larger cities to seek the protection of Angels. Cole has stayed behind and is trying to live his life as normal as possible. When Cole is called into work, Nikki is abducted and Cole is attacked. A Fallen Angel comes into the bar and life as he knows it is about to take a massive change, again. He has to work with Vera if he wants to get Nikki back. Together they need to confront Demons and Druids and try not to get themselves killed in the process.
Knowing that this book is written by a male author makes it more believable being told from Cole’s POV. Cole is a typical guy and has all the thoughts that I think a male has. He is not shy about checking out a girl, even down to her ass and has all these cheeky thoughts when doing so! He doesn’t over think things, once he makes a decision he goes with it, no second guessing, just action. He doesn’t like to be told what to do and wants to keep his male pride intact. He is quite modest, but from the description I found Cole very attractive and very much a bad-boy; loves his guns, knives and sword, rides a motorbike and wears a duster…… yep, he can come visit me any day!!
Vera has an agenda which she is keeping secret from Cole. She only discloses information to him when needed but then he doesn’t like to ask questions either. Vera and Cole have an easy relationship and are comfortable in each other’s presence. If Armageddon wasn’t on their doorstep, I’m sure they would’ve acted on their chemistry immediately. However, something big is approaching and they need to save the world first!!
When I read a book, I like to be kept stimulated with conversations and action. Hell’s Gate has plenty of action, but it is not packed with talking. Cole usually engages in conversation when he needs answers as he tends to be the quiet type. However, the way the author has written Hell’s Gate kept me intrigued and I wanted to know more.
I found the plot amazing and I was captivated almost immediately. The author is very descriptive and I felt like I knew exactly what he was telling me. The combination of using Angels, Demons, Druids and humans kept me guessing as to the direction of the story. There are plenty of fighting scenes with heads rolling, removal of limbs and lots of gunfire, and I loved it!! I had plenty of questions that were left unanswered by the end of the book as Cole is still in the dark about a lot of things too. Cole’s journey is only just beginning and I am excited to see where things head now!!
I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
Hell’s Gate introduces us to the post-apocalyptic world of small town Ohio. Angels, demons even druids are fighting for dominance of Earth. The main character Cole is a bartender who seems to have adjusted to this new world but does not really have a purpose to his life. His best quality is his loyalty to his friends and his town. On the day we meet him he is attacked on the way to work by a demon then again in the bar by a druid. He is saved in the bar by Vera a fallen angel. Vera has been looking for him and informs him that the druids have kidnapped his friend Nikki. Cole and Vera set off to save Nikki and what ensues reveals more antagonists and plots then friends and resolutions. We are taken through demon lairs, druid camps and wastelands of the countryside. Through it we see Cole struggle to fight a growing attraction to Vera as he stays true to his quest to free Nikki. Cole is an interesting character. I want to call him an antihero but he does have redeeming qualities that just won’t let that title fit. The underlying currents of this book makes it hard to like any of the other characters. Even Vera is suspect in her intentions but then again she has fallen from Heaven so maybe we should be cautious of her. The imagery in this book is fantastic. You can see the author knows the places he is writing about and has changed them just enough to give them a haunting feeling. There are many religious undertones which have caused me to realize that my Catholic upbringing is sorely lacking when it comes to the final chapter of the bible. I actually wanted to take my bible off the shelf at 2:00 in the morning to try and rectify that. This is one of those books you will have to reread just to figure out what clues you missed the first time around! It will gnaw at you before you fall asleep and you will be anxiously awaiting the next book. I know I am.
This is a completely unbiased review and the author or the publication has not affected the opinions expressed. Hell’s Gate by Benjamin Daniels falls in the paranormal genre and the author has aptly done justice to it. This is the story of Cole and how he gets in the middle of a fight between the Angels and Demons and how he has to make a decision that could change everything. Set in a futuristic time, the author uses fluid and easy expressions which make the reader feel like a part of the action. He uses vivid descriptions to describe the hero, fallen angels, demons and the druids. However, sometimes the descriptions take up a lot of your time and seem a bit repetitive but then apart from this, it is a nice novel to be read while sipping your cuppa in a lazy rainy day. Stoic believers might find it hard to digest some facts, but the whole plot is a work of fiction and should be read as such. Though Daniels has used a lot of violence in the book but they are interestingly not at all disturbing or repulsive. The ending gives the hope to the readers for a sequel and might seem a bit predictable in the middle but you might be in for some surprise. Though the paranormal genre has been hashed and rehashed a series of times but the fight amongst the Druids, angels, fallen angels and humans takes a refreshing change to this genre and would definitely do good to it. All in all Hell’s gate deserves a 4 out of 5.
Benjamin Daniels is an amazingly talented writer. Very descriptive and detailed. Hell's gate is action packed and will have you on the edge of your seat from beginning to end. The characters will have you loving or hating them. The twists and turns will keep you guessing and questioning everything you thought you were expecting. I can not wait for the sequel. Thank you for an amazing story!
The gates of Hell are open and Hell's Gate brings it all to life in a story told from Cole's point of view! A roller coaster ride to Hell and back is more like it though. I love to read books that are fast paced, though Hell's Gate doesn't start out that way, it picks up and you will not put it down till your done!
Cole goes through so very much for a friend he intends to save, with a fallen angel as his guide, Vera and him seek the Druids for their help. Only once they find the Druids they are sent on another wild chase to find Demetra. Cole being the man he is though, every internal thought is a debate on whether or not to do this or not do that. He's told to bring her in alive, to seek the justice of the Druids. Yeah right! Not Cole, he's not that kind of guy, tends to take things into his own hands and deal with everything himself.
This is a series I can see myself following to the end. The author's use of words allowed for reading and imagining the story as it played out. I kept wanting to know more, and laughed out loud at some parts. There are things about Cole that I wanted to know, but the answer just out of reach every time I thought well maybe, nah that couldn't be it. Then I'd come to another part and think maybe, nah that's not right. I was totally blown away with the answer I was seeking through the entire book! As a reader you will understand my meaning when it comes to a character that just has that affect on you and yet you can't grasp the inner character till the author decides to tell you!
I am totally in love with Cole! So sad too because he has moments in the story where I want to strangle him. ::shakes head:: Reminds me of someone else I know all too well. I am anxiously waiting on the next book so that I can get on with the story and the amazing ending that left me wanting more! I do believe all authors want that ending, but not all actually achieve it. Some leave you hanging without anything to hold on to. Hell's Gate has an ending that you will not forget. I'm ready for Exsilium, are you?
Cole's small town is very different from mine, "the activities in a small town are: sleep, sex, drugs, drink and watch grass grow." Really Cole in our town it's: sleep, sex, drugs, drink, and watch the cows grow. "Oh, will you quit defending her. She's evil, plain and simple. I know you have a history. I know you have a friendship. The person you knew once upon a time is gone. There is no saving her no matter what you believe or how you view it. This world will be better when she's gone." Even though I totally agree with you about Lilith you didn't have to be an a** about it Cole. Show some compassion it is Vera's friend you're talking about. I mean Cole though, he's a looker, "The pants are leather, tight enough they show off what God has given me. I don't think I can fit a pair of boxers under them even if I wanted to." I'm totally okay with that Cole, I really am. I really like how Vera and Cole interact with each other: "You know there are door knobs. Believe it or not they actually turn and open doors, right?" My voice is heavy with sarcasm. "We don't have time for door knobs." Make a smart a** comment you get a smart a** reply. There were times I was frustrated with Cole and Vera I just wanted them to do the nasty already, UGH. The damn cliffhanger! BENJAMIN YOU ARE NOT A NICE BOY! I loved the book though hated the cliffhanger.
An Ambrosia Arts review of Hells Gate, first novel of the Seventh Seals Saga by Benjamin Daniels
Hells Gates have been opened… The world’s most powerful creatures once thought of as myths by many have been released into the open: our guardian Angels, Hell’s Demons, and the protectors of our earth, the Druids. Amongst them is Cole. A man merely trying to survive, thrown into the mix of a new damnation and war on Earth. Not even our churches can protect you from sin in Benjamin Daniels’ universe.
And truly he has created a masterpiece of one. His details are extraordinary, the story riveting as his creations keep you desperate for more.
No matter your beliefs, Daniels work here is impressive and inspiring, spiritually and mentally. As for the remaining books in this saga, I for one will be waiting anxiously to see this incredible story unfold.
I am glad I was finally able to set time aside for Hell's Gate, it kept me hooked all the way past the end!!! Ben did a excellent job keeping you pulled in at every page. Very descriptive, you can literally close your eyes and picture every scene, from each place and in to all the action. I was hooked on Cole from the very beginning with his witty personality. I wouldn't mind trading places with Vera for a day. :) Vera just kind of falls into Cole's lap during a fight and any guy would be drooling over her, including Cole! I absolutely enjoyed every page and it continues to keep me thinking about what I thought I knew about the Bible. Everyone gets something else out of each book in the Bible and I think Ben chose a great one to base his story off of. Who doesn't think about this at some point in there life. What will happen when Armageddon comes? Thank you Ben for an eye opening addicting story! I will be impatiently waiting for book 2!!
Armageddon happened and it is Hell on Earth with Demons and Angels alongside the human beings left behind after the Rapture and druids. Ben Daniels really has a way with words. His writing is really interesting. “The way she walks is almost like seduction without saying a single word.” “I can sit here and look at her all day and never grow bored.” I really liked the descriptions of what the female characters were wearing. Cole is not a perfect protagonist, he doesn't want to fight in a war, he just wants to be left alone. I also liked that he doesn't have a perfect physique, he has a four pack instead of a six pack. I thought this made him more relatable as a character. The beginning is a bit slow as the author sets the story and then BAM things start getting exciting. It took me to about halfway through to start getting into it, but then I was definitely hooked.
This review is from: Hell's Gate (The Seventh Seal) (Kindle Edition) I was given this book for an honest review. This is not my typical type of genre, but, if given a book to read, I will never turn it down. This book needs editing fairly desperately. It has multiple spelling, punctuation and sentence structuring problems. It is a book in which the author goes significantly overboard in describing every single bit of background and tree and cement and how it's all changed since the Apocalypse. Trust me, the readers get it. Having talked about the negatives in this book, I have to give the positives equal time. The storyline is great, fascinating, keeps you interested and, if you can skim past the overly done descriptions of everything, this is a book that really does end up pulling you in and holding on until the very last word.
The main character, Cole, lives in an extremely small town in Ohio. The time is after armageddon. Demons, Angels and Druids rule in different parts of the land. Humans are very much the minority. Cole teams up with a fallen angel, Vera, to rescue Nikki, his boss and owner of the bar he works in. They find she is being held by Lilith. This takes them on quite the adventure with the side inner drama of Cole falling in love with Vera. Mr. Daniels descriptions of the places that Cole and Vera visit are perfect..He gives you just enough detail that you can really visualize the places in your head. This book was so much fun to read and very hard to put down. I would highly recommend this book to everyone, especially if you love the paranormal.
I wasn't epecting to be so entertained when starting on this book. But since it came highly recommended, I wanted to see what the hype was about. I was not dissapointed. It had me guessing when I thought I knew where it was going. I expected things to go somewhere with Vera and Cole, but instead was left with questions. I loved the detail and could get a good image in my head. I want to read more about Cole and where he's going. I want to know why he's so important and special. And I absolutely want to see where his attraction to Vera leads. There are also a few characters I want to know more about. I have so many theories, but too many questions. I loved this book and WANT more.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book, the attention to detail held my interest throughout. The characters were well developed and likeable. Cole the main character leads us through the story, his only goal is to survive another day. Action throughout Cole finds himself in many life threatening situations when all he wants is to be left in peace. The appearance of a fallen angel determined to protect him leads to unanswered questions as to who Cole really is and why so many people are out to get him. A refreshing change from the many angel & demon books available this one is a must read!
I loved this book! The characters were beautifully detailed, the story was exciting and held my attention all the way to the end, and the vivid attention to detail really gave me a good picture of what the characters were experiencing throughout.
I adored Vera, and Cole was a perfect combination of toughness and goodness. I could see an entire series set around this book. I'm really hoping for a sequel, because I'm itching to know what happens next!
(As a woman that comes from Druid stock from both sides of the family, the portrayal of the Druids was great!!!)
I'm a sucker for religious speculation, but when you combine that with the elements of fantasy, it's hard to go wrong. Ben Daniels delivers a cast of fantastical creatures which leap from the page and fill your imagination. Just when I thought the author had created the ultimate villain, he out does himself and continues to bring new ones to life. I would have enjoyed a bit more dialogue, but overall I was intrigued by the creativity of the story and was transported to a world which exploded to life. Angels, demons, humans and Druids…oh my!
This is one of the more complex stories I've read this year, which slots it firmly into my Top 10 for 2013. The character development of Vera and Cole were very well done, and I enjoyed the layers of biblical reference and interpretation throughout the story. This is an excellent read and I highly recommend it as one of the best books I have read this year. I look forward to the next book. It was a pleasure watching the author peel back the plot layers to reveal surprises up until the last chapter! Great job Ben!
This book Is base post-apocalyptic in a town in Ohio. It's demon vs angels, AND Cole is stuck in this world. He works as a bartender, then he meets a fallen Angel named Vera. They have to work together and save coles friend Nikki.
I really enjoyed this book. The characters were interesting and they drew me in the book. Interesting story also. I would recommend it. :-)
I found this an amazing book to read. The characters are strong and interesting. There is so much action and the suspense is continuous. I found the writing style for this story to be free flowing and easy to read and stay interested. Each reader is going to have a different thought as to where the characters are headed but will be surprised more often than not. Druids, Angels, Fallen Angels and Demons are easy work for Benjamin Daniels to bring to life!
I thought Hell's Gate was imaginative and engaging. I enjoy the style of writing and the descriptive way he describes the hell his characters are going through. I found myself identifying with them which is important when you are trying to get lost in a book. The end left me wanting to know what is going to happen next.
That's all I have....just NOOOOO!!! Author Benjamin Daniels has done it again. I read this entire ebook from the edge of my seat and will continue to hang onto the side of the cliff in anticipation of the next one. Well done. Amazing detail, phenomenal character profiles, tremendous drama. A perfectly written work.
This book was definitely not a book I would seek out on my own so I am glad it was dangled in front of my eyes to take. I enjoyed the writing style and the story.. There were a lot of things that caught me off guard and I found that refreshing. I absolutely can't wait to read what else Ben has floating around in that wild head of his.
I absolutely loved this book. Ben takes you on a whirlwind journey of a man trying to survive with a world full of demons, angels and druids. This book is full of action the entire book. Ben is a very talented author and I can not wait to read more of his work. If you love angles, demons...This book is for you. I highly recommend this book to everyone..It is a must read!!!!!
I don't typically read books of this genre but it was interesting and kept me reading. I'm looking forward to the release of the next book in the series :)
A really good read but is in need of some punctuation to make the prose flow more, but don't let that put you off. A nice change for me to read something different.
