Great story, but I would recommend that if parents want to read this to their children, they read it first to judge whether their little ones are ready for the realities this book presents. I think it would be a good story for older juveniles with an opportunity for them to discuss the contents of this book with a parent or trusted adult. It is a beautiful, touching story and I will definitely read this with my son when he is older.
