The Coming Revolution
We are living in a time of monumental change.
Countless numbers of ordinary people, men and women from all walks of life, are joining forces to challenge the direction our national leaders are now taking us. Washington’s idea of change has failed, and most Americans are now frustrated, disappointed, and angry. This book comes at the perfect time for me teaching my 7th grade daughter about the American Revolution in History! We know that history bears lessons of both success and failures of what we've gone through as a country and just where we have fallen short even now. What this leads me to believe is that our country is sitting on the cusp of another Revolution in America.
Just how have we missed the mark? The things that are happening now are becoming the new accepted norm, redefinition of marriage, our educational system is failing and we're dumbing down our standards for our children, as well as accepting things our founding fathers would be appalled over. The 2010 election was a watershed. It was in effect a firewall against further encroachments and further legislative destruction from the Left. It was a good start, but it was just a start. Those who would like to undermine our form of government, our traditional values and beliefs, and our way of life haven't gone away. They're just waiting for the opportunity to strike again. That's one of the reasons why author, Dr. Richard G. Lee has written the book, The Coming Revolution, as a warning and a wake-up call to every citizen to stand up, speak up, and become engaged in the contest for America's future.
Make no mistake; we are in a contest to see what this nation will be for the next two hundred years. Will we uphold the values of the Founders, who were dedicated to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness? Will we defend the moral and ethical values our forefathers fought and died for? Or will we stand by silently, like the dazed and defeated citizens of a half-dozen fallen empires of the past, and watch this nation sink into the swamp of socialism, totalitarianism, and anarchy, ultimately leading to collapse? This is choice we have to make, and it is one contest we can't afford to lose.

I received the book The Coming Revolution by Dr. Richard G. Lee, compliments of Thomas Nelson Publishers for my honest review. I personally think this is a book every single person who lives in the United States should read. Lee examines with conviction and mastery the social and religious elements that propelled American into the First American Revolution and opens discussion for the idea that this generation may also be seeking "a new freedom" is startlingly similar ways as our ancestors. This book will encourage readers to find their voice and join the countless men and women who are taking a stand against the direction America's leaders are taking them. Lee challenges us to follow our deeply held convictions and the promptings of faith to lead once again to new personal and national freedoms. This one rates a 5 out of 5 stars in my opinion!

I have been bombarded with thoughts on patriotism these past couple of months. Especially these past couple of weeks. The ideas that have come flooding in on this thought process....makes me want to sit my girls down and learn some history together. Besides reading this book that I got from,
I also watched
and
and
and listened to. So, I may have been slamming myself with these thoughts. But I didn't go out searching for them at the library. They seemed to jump off the shelf and into my bag. I couldn't walk away from them. And each one impacted my thought process in a different way...all good.
But back to the book review...

I really enjoyed the book. The author made sure to share facts that were interesting as well as some of the plain ones. It was refreshing to read why this country was founded and why people keep flooding it's shores. We stand for freedom here. We allow you to be who you are and enjoy the diversity of who you are.
The author did a great job showing how the many religions were brought and founded in this country and how they have developed over time. He showed how religion kept bringing us together over the years.
The only part of the book that caused my hackles to raise was when he started sharing his opinion and his facts on the current administration. They may be right and true but I wasn't looking for a book on what is wrong with the country currently. I want to know how to fix it and how I can help influence my friends and family with my passions and thoughts about patriotism and freedom, not about which political party is doing what. Thankfully, that section wasn't very long and it went on to share some good key points about what we can do...and it wasn't biased toward any political party.
We all need to do our part to fight for the freedoms our founders planned for us to have. And in this intellectual age, we need to fight with our minds for our minds.
One of my favorite quotes from the book is, "The welfare state cannot save us. Green energy will not save us. More police, more jails, and more threats won't save us. Only God can save us, and unless the American people rise up and demand that the government get back on track, stop these predatory behaviors, and return to our founding principles, we are in for a long and bumpy ride over the next several years."
And, "...remember not only what we did but also the enormous price our forefathers paid for the liberties we enjoy."
And the author's Pathway to Victory:
1. We Must Prepare Personally
2. We must partner with others.
3. We must learn the process.
4. We must participate in the arena.
5. We must proclaim the truth.
6. We must persevere until we prevail.
And I'll leave you with one more, "When we make the decision to become engaged, we are not just doing it for ourselves but for all those who come after us. We are also doing it to honor the legacy that was given to us by all those brave men and women who came before us. What a tragedy it would be if, having been given so much, we should fail to pass on to future generations the blessings of liberty that have been entrusted into our hands."
I would recommend this book to everyone. Along with the movies I watched while I was on the journey through this book. We need a renewal of what this country was founded for. Will you be a part of the change for the good or the bad?

Well-researched and well written, The Coming Revolution is an ideal read for an American audience frustrated with revisionist history and the trend toward socialistic government. I received an advance copy for review from the publisher. The book is scheduled for release on January 12, 2012.
Lee, founder of The First Redeemer Church in Atlanta, Georgia, and “There’s Hope America” ministry, presents readers with a concise and understandable guide to America’s pre-revolutionary history, including the lost colony of Roanoke, the nearly-failed Jamestown experiment and the quest for religious freedom that drove Puritan settlers toward Plymouth. Through it all, Lee explains the essential role that the Christian faith of those early settlers played in forming the nation.
Most significant is Lee’s description of the “Great Awakening” of the 1730s and 1740s and its impact on the American Revolution. As Lee describes, the preaching of the Great Awakening emphasized the need for personal repentance and accountability before God as well as the importance of a personal moral code among those living in community. Lee asserts that the seeds planted in the Great Awakening gave colonists the courage to form a new nation based on “the consent of the governed” and guaranteeing political and religious liberty.
But “The Coming Revolution” is more than a history book. It might also be titled, “A Defense of the Tea Party.” In describing America’s past, Lee looks toward the future and is troubled by the trends he sees -- destruction of the nuclear family, decline in American educational standards and the rise of the welfare state. He lays the blame squarely at the feet of “progressives” currently represented by the Obama administration and challenges Americans to correct its course through a “revolution of ideas, an expression of faith and a renewed commitment to a higher cause.”
Lee should be careful, though. By promoting a third political party, he threatens to fracture conservatives rather than unite them, a move that could lead to a continuation of the socialistic policies that concern him. Conservatives need look no further than the candidacy of Ross Perot in 1992 to understand this concern. The introduction of a second conservative choice split the Republican Party and resulted in the election of Bill Clinton, gaining progressives a foothold and initiating America’s most recent slide toward socialism. For example, Clinton’s liberal belief that every American has the right to home ownership regardless of ability to pay resulted in Federal lending policies that drove America to the brink of financial collapse just a few years ago. By urging conservatives to form a third party in the 2012 election, history may repeat itself.
Instead, Lee’s agenda might be better served by encouraging a personal call to repentance along with intelligent and rational discourse among those from any political party concerned about our nation’s future. Americans desperately need to set aside political bickering and unify under a renewed vision that reclaims our heritage, promotes personal responsibility and strengthens families and communities. Of course, Christians understand that such a vision is impossible apart from a movement of the Holy Spirit. Thus, personal repentance and faith in Christ are the first steps to securing America’s future.
If readers take nothing else away from Lee’s book, they should ponder this: Lasting positive change – whether spiritual, social or political – only comes about as God’s Spirit works in the hearts of individuals. Before Americans can change the direction of their nation, they must first ask God to change their hearts.

The first portion of the book is an educational review of the history of our founding fathers. The author goes into great detail, annotating specific quotes and sources, of the social outrage against the King of England, and political fervor, that caused the separate colonies to forget their differences and unite to revolt again the tyranny of the King. Dr. Richard Lee argues his theory that today’s social, economic, and political breakdown can be attributed to three major causes: the lack of religious spirit, the lack of patriotism taught in schools, and the breakdown of the traditional family unit.
The author quotes from the Pledge of Allegiance, “One nation under God, indivisible …” and ponders if we ARE still one nation under God. It is currently politically correct to advocate freedom of religion by suppressing Christians’ ability to worship as they choose. There are several instances where people have sued their neighbors for having a Virgin Mary statue displayed in their garden or yard. Similar cases would never have made it to court if it concerned a statue of Buddha or the Hindu Goddess Lakshmi. Dr. Lee cites many quotes where the founding fathers, even Benjamin Franklin who was not a deeply religious man, expressed the opinion that it was through their faith in God that colonists drew their strength, dignity, and sense of morals. The author also questions IF this nation IS still indivisible as society has seem to become more of an “Us vs. Them” mentality that is split between classes, races, and/or influential corporations.
Dr. Lee states that children today are no longer taught pride in our nation. History of our forefathers and what they sacrificed for our freedoms is gleaned over and barely touched upon anymore. While many citizens know the basic gist of the Constitution, or the Bill of Rights, how many have not only read them, but understand them? I admit that I haven’t. There are many times where my twelve-year-old daughter has interrupted a conversation, asking who it was that we were discussing. We’ve been baffled that she had never heard of John Adams, Paul Revere, FDR, or even Hitler. I had thought it curious that such topics hadn’t been covered yet in her history classes and worried that maybe she wasn’t paying much attention in class. Dr. Richard Lee’s reasearch of history textbooks currently in use in assorted school districts makes me seriously wonder if she was just never taught these important lessons.
This book would make an excellent group read as it evokes plenty of debatable discussions. These opinions are expressly my own and not in any way those of A Goddess of Frugality or its owner.
The author quotes from the Pledge of Allegiance, “One nation under God, indivisible …” and ponders if we ARE still one nation under God. It is currently politically correct to advocate freedom of religion by suppressing Christians’ ability to worship as they choose. There are several instances where people have sued their neighbors for having a Virgin Mary statue displayed in their garden or yard. Similar cases would never have made it to court if it concerned a statue of Buddha or the Hindu Goddess Lakshmi. Dr. Lee cites many quotes where the founding fathers, even Benjamin Franklin who was not a deeply religious man, expressed the opinion that it was through their faith in God that colonists drew their strength, dignity, and sense of morals. The author also questions IF this nation IS still indivisible as society has seem to become more of an “Us vs. Them” mentality that is split between classes, races, and/or influential corporations.
Dr. Lee states that children today are no longer taught pride in our nation. History of our forefathers and what they sacrificed for our freedoms is gleaned over and barely touched upon anymore. While many citizens know the basic gist of the Constitution, or the Bill of Rights, how many have not only read them, but understand them? I admit that I haven’t. There are many times where my twelve-year-old daughter has interrupted a conversation, asking who it was that we were discussing. We’ve been baffled that she had never heard of John Adams, Paul Revere, FDR, or even Hitler. I had thought it curious that such topics hadn’t been covered yet in her history classes and worried that maybe she wasn’t paying much attention in class. No, it’s not the American Civil War. It’s not even the Whiskey Rebellion. According to Richard G. Lee, America’s Second Revolution is happening now. Or at least was happening back when the 2010 election results held promise for many political conservatives and the Tea Party movement was at the height of its popularity.
Many books on current events are outdated by the time they go into print. Lee’s The Coming Revolution is one of them. What might have been a dozen short blog posts has been stretched into 200 pages of some of the most unoriginal thoughts ever written. Lee is a product of the Cold War, evident by his anti-communist paranoia. He’d have kids today believe that the “Marxism” (he means Stalinist communism) and the “Soviet Union” (no, I’m not kidding) are the greatest threats to America’s future. And he wants to fight them by praising America’s better days.
The Coming Revolution: Signs from America’s Past That Signal Out Nation’s Future is not the take-action book it claims to be. Lee spends about 80% of the book gushing over America’s grand narrative, covering no more than any of my grade school textbooks. He never misses an opportunity to brag about his role in bringing on the current Second Revolution, yet if anything, recent events proves just what a poor prophet he is.
The question running through my mind is, why was this book even written? (Well, I’m also wondering why I volunteered to review it.) Lee is an avid opponent of violent revolution, something that he even tries to write out of America’s revolutionary history. He connects that response with anarchism, socialism, and the Occupy Wall Street movement. Instead, he promotes a peaceful overthrow of the old order and installation of a new one…by angry people, no less. As a self-proclaimed leader of the Second Revolution, he can only advise his readers to continue to do exactly what they’ve done all their lives: vote, hold leaders accountable, and stay politically engaged – things that haven’t brought significant changes in the long run. If Lee wants to be a leader of his new revolution, he needs to offer new strategies before he’s replaced or loses the war.

I've never really had much of an interest in politics. But with the gradual process of turning away from the faith of the Founding Fathers in America, my resolve has been challenged.
And after reading The Coming Revolution, I feel more challenged than ever to get involved.
Dr. Lee feels that we are on the verge of a revolution. Not a physical or a violent revolution like the American Revolution, but a revolution nonetheless. With several years spent studying American history and current issues, he feels that the signs are right for a change.
I have to admit, I agree for the most part.
Lee starts off by addressing the needs he sees in the current state of our government. And after tracing our nation's roots from Plymouth Rock through the Revolutionary War, he shows us just what we've let slip away.
The question is, can we get it back?
Dr. Lee believes that we can. And I agree. Most of us can agree; there is a huge need facing our country right now. How we respond to it is critical. The problem lies in the fact that most people don't think they need to respond. Apathy and complacency are rampant; someone else will step up, or things aren't as bad as they seem.
But a response is needed. Who will take the initiative and step forward to get involved? Who will be the one to say "enough is enough"? What will be left of the great nation of the United States to hand to our children if we don't do something about it now?
With an election approaching, the time is ripe for more and more people to let our elected representatives know how we feel. The time is ripe for a return to the faith of our Founding Fathers.
It's time to step up. It's time to get involved.

Many call the United States a Christian nation, while others argue against this premise. Dr. Lee brings the history of the founding of the United States to light as he explains just what roll Christians had in the settlement of our country. We have watched our country slip further and further into debt, immorality has become the norm, and the loss of individual liberty grows daily. Average citizens are now rising up and taking action. Not a revolution of guns and war, but with responsible political action.
The Coming Revolution is more than just a history lesson. It is a call to action with specific positive approaches we can take to put our country back on the right path. The author doesn’t believe that it is too late to stop the downslide of America. History is not my usual genre, but the author explained just enough to hold my interest and explain his points. I liked that he talks about specific steps we can take to make a difference in a positive way and without violence. Even if we can’t do everything he lists, there are some things that we can all do.
Dr. Lee is a pastor and Christian speaker. His book represents the Christian perspective of how much it should mean to us to be an American and to possess not just the American spirit, but a personal spirit of independence. His outlook is one of optimism and not doom and gloom. The book contains pages of footnotes and is indexed for quick reference.

The Coming Revolution is a general look at history. The subtitle of the book says “signs from America’s past that signal our nation’s future”, and this book is about looking into America’s past. Dr. Lee particularly focuses on the religious aspects of America’s history and how this played a part in the American Revolution. He makes an argument for religion playing a large role in the revolution he believes is beginning in present America.
As far as a general history on our nation, I thought this book did fine. There were some details I felt were changed to support his particular views, but the history was intact. My biggest disappointment in this book came from some of the beliefs about God’s role. Dr. Lee makes the statement that as long as there is a remnant of believers in the United States that God will protect our country. Why would he do more for us as a nation than he did for the nation of Israel? I also disagreed with his views on salvation, but that was not a surprise for me. All in all I was not overwhelmingly impressed with this book.

Mixed feelings about the presentation and choice of topics.
The first part focuses on a whos-who of professional clergy from the reformation up to the 18th century. I get that religious liberty is hinged on freedom, but that point gets mired down in factions that often fought one another when an oppressive government wasn't handy. The inherent idea of a covenant or promised land is brought to the table but not fully examined.
Second, we are all familiar with the statistics of out of wedlock births, people on welfare, how many jobs are being lost, poor educational standards, and a general godlessness present in society today. Whilst these factoids are useful and accurate, it feels like more of a filler.
Third, when getting around to the Coming Revolution, the fourteen points seem to be common sense (mostly) drawn randomly out of a hat.
This is a good book to have as a reference and it is easy to read, but it left me feeling like many of the ideas were half finished.

I received this book complimentary of Booksneeze for my honest review. This was a fabulous book! What I appreciated was how Dr. Lee gives a review of American history -- from the real reason why many came to America in search of religious freedom, to the growth of the colonies and the Reformation, to the Independence from Britain and how our Founders and the colonists' faith in God had a impact on the events of the day. Dr. Lee also describes 21st century faith and concludes with the importance of our faith now in this time in history and a call for another Revolution for our country. I would not say that this is a "political" book, but a history book that should shape our politics of today! In my opinion, this is a must read, especially for teenagers and college students who have been given whitewashed history in today's American History classes.

The Coming Revolution is an extraordinary look back at where our Country has been, and those men and women who shaped it. As well as a look into where this Country may be headed if it does not heed the warnings, and live up to the ideals, the founding father's had hoped for, dreamed of, and set the path toward for today.
Lee tackles the not so PC [politically correct] move away from Christianity, and what that means to the America on which our founders based our Country.
A great book for anyone who fears the direction in which America is headed. I think this would make a great study book for group reads, especially in church groups. And would be a good impetus for classroom debate as well.
I give this book 5 stars and my thumbs up.

This book is very well-written. You can tell that the author speaks for a living. I found it interesting to read about the unrest in the country from a religious, instead of purely political, point-of-view. It gave me a new perspective on what is going on. I definitely think this would be a great book for a college political science or current events class.
I also enjoyed the author’s writing style. I felt that it was engaging without being preachy, which I feared coming into the book as it is written by a professional preacher/pastor. Whether or not you believe a revolution is coming, I think that everyone should read this book just to get an insight into the current political and religious climate in the country.

The Coming Revolution encourages you to take a look back to where our Country has been, as well as to look to where we may be heading if we ignore the warnings. Dr. Lee explains a new revolution is coming and encourages the people to use their voice and establish where they stand in political involvement.
Dr. Lee shows that many of the identical social and religious frustrations that nudged the colonists toward the First American Revolution are present today. This book is an easy read for believers and interesting as long as you keep an open mind for those non-believers.

Great beginning. Has the stats and arguements that a standard constrvative book will have. Really can't argue with where we are headed.
The middle of the book is a who's who of the Christian leaders during the First and Second Great Awakening.
Have to agree with the final premise that to re-take America, we need another Great Awakening and no more Occupy movements. Individual comittments to God family and country seem to be the only way out of this mess.
