I wouldn't have pegged Black Moon as the book that ended my 'great reads' streak.

If you haven't read the other books in the Alpha Pack series, do NOT bother with this one. There's very little character introduction or world explanations. Since Mac's and Kalen's relationship actually began in a previous book (which one I don't remember), there's also barely any relationship development. The whole book basically revolves around Kalen and Malik, with Mac kinda wedged in there for the sex scenes or

I was really disappointed with Kalen's book, I think I became bored very quickly in the beginning with regard to Kalen's weakness to Malik. I'm hoping the next book will make up for the disappointment. ...more

The Alpha Pack has quickly become one of my favorite shifter series! The characters are all unique, interesting and sexy in their own way. The world and how it integrates shifters that have certain special abilities is fantastic. And the stories in each book always keep me on toes.

I should warn you that I have a soft spot for this man. Kalen Black is a perfect dark hero. I fell in love with him from the very beginning and I’ve been dying to read

Well I still like the series but this book I rated a 3 because I had to put the book down to get past my WTF moments. The story line was alright but it seem like the second I would get into it the characters would do or say something that just made my brain short out, and I'd start to fuss then put the story down because I was pissed off.

I haven't figured out if the author is a human hater but I'm guessing not... The whole Fae story hasn't moved along enough for me other than what this story wa
I had a hard time with this book too much angst. Kalen was constantly going back & forth. You would think because he found his mate Dr.Mackenzie Grant that he would try harder too straighten his life out. I found it hard too believe how many chances he was given at the compound when he kept putting their lives in jeopardy so many times. It was difficult to believe that they would allow him around their mates as shifters are very protective. There was just a little too much whining on Kalen's par ...more

I sat down in my comfy reading chair today and devoured this book in about four hours. I knew from the moment that Kalen walked onto the pages of Primal Law that he would have an amazing story to tell. J.D. did not disappoint. She gave Kalen the best book that I have read in 2012. Now I am left impatiently waiting for Hunter’s Heart (Sept 2013) the next installment in the amazing Alpha Pack series.

Kalen had a heartbreaking childhood. The atrocities that his parents bestowed upon him gave him a

This is J.D. Tyler's 3rd book in her wonderful Alpha Pack series. It picks up almost exactly where the last book, Savage Awakening, left off. As a word of advice, if you haven't read any of her series yet but really want to read this book, which I'm 100% for, I would highly recommend at least reading Black Magic first, which is a novella in the series that is basically the ground work for this book. With that being said, I'll give you a bit of a synopsis, promise I won't spoil it *grin*.

Looking at some of the reviews I see I agree with many -- yes Kalen is angst filled and he has every right to be -- kicked out of his home at 14 and forced to live on the street and do whatever he needed to do to feed himself. That is a harsh life and needs to be taken into consideration. His mother abandoned him and the only person who gave any kind of love was his grandmother who gave him a necklace that she told him never to take off because it would protect him. Well yes that is pretty harsh ...more

Black Moon, Alpha Pack #3, by J.D. Tyler
Grade: D+

“Save me, Mackenzie. Drive out the darkness. Be my light.”

Kalen Black is a sorcerer and a shifter who can turn into a panther. he has had a very tough life but feels like he might have finally found acceptance with the Alpha Pack and in the arms of the sexy doctor Mackenzie Grant. Kalen is being haunted by a very powerful Unseelie Malik who wants to use Kalen and his power. Because of Malik kalen tries to drive Mac away but the bond between them i

Oh … my … Kalen. I love him. He had me from the moment the boys tackled him in the cemetery. He’s in my blood. So strong, and yet so damned vulnerable, I wanted to slay his dragons, heal his wounds.

I loved the passion and emotion between him and Mackenzie. The sex was off the charts, but their relationship wasn’t smooth or easy. She judged his character poorly. And I thought she should have been more supportive knowing all he was going through – all he’d been through. I liked her in the novella

My Review:

This book wasn't my favorite of this series and I really had high hopes for it especially after the novella where Kalen and Mac hooked up. I loved that novella. But the book went much more into the internal issues that Kalen is having with the dark hold that Malek has developed over him.

I had a hard time getting Kalen set in my mind as an Alpha because he spends so much of this book struggling against that evil. It almost made him feel weak. That combined with the fact that Nick is con

I hated this book. It was extremely emo. He had a terrible childhood.. That sucks man. But now you have awesome job and friends and a hot girl who is into you despite your whine-y ness... Thats totally a word. And good lord Mack was also super freaking annoying. He blew her off and then is a dick to her and then one day he is nice and asks her to lunch... I would have refused but not only does she go on the date, she takes him to her special spot( gag) and has sex with him. Seems like a fantasti ...more

Dr. MacKenzie Grant & Kalen Black are a couple that just can't seem to get it together. Since their night on the town and near death experience things have been strained between them. After giving his only protection against Malik to Mac, Kalen is bombarded with memories, hallucinations and dark thoughts constantly. Mac's memories are clear and firm as she only thinks of her night on the town with Kalen and that soon everyone else will know about it. In fact, she isn't quite sure Nick hasn't alr

Black Moon (Alpha Pack, #3)
By J.D. Tyler

The Alpha pack is an organization made of up former Navy seals turned werewolves. Their purpose is to battle some of the scariest and deadliest creatures not of their world. Each of the Alpha Pack books focus on a team mate, their struggles as a werewolf solider as well as the continued fight against an Evil Fae Sovereign.

Black moon focuses on Alpha Pack, new member Kalen. Kalen, a were-cougar and powerful sorcerer, has lived a very sad and troubled life.

Basic idea: "Ever since he saved Dr. Mackenzie Grant’s life, panther shifter and sorcerer Kalen Black has had trouble keeping the beautiful doctor out of his thoughts, and his heart. The brush with death awakened an intense passion between them—one that for the first time had the notorious loner letting down his guard."

From the moment we meet Kalen in book 2, I've wanted to slap him. Yes, all the trained shapeshifting ex-Navy SEALS describe Kalen as a "bad ass sorcerer" but he's really just a wh

That was a hard story to read but awesome nonetheless! “Black Moon” is darker than the previous books in the series and with a more complicated character. Finally, this is the complete story of Kalen and Mac and it’s exactly what I expected: dark and emotional.

Kalen had the most difficult life. He’s abused by his father and then abused by strangers in order to survive. He is a powerful Sorcerer, Necromancer and panther shifter but he was very unhappy in his life so far. Unwanted and without fri

Oh my Kalen......I have been in love with Kalen since he stepped on the pages in Primal Law (book 1). And I feel more in love this him in his novella Black Magic. So I was so super excited when I got my ARC of Black Moon. We finally get to learn more about Kalen. What makes him tick, what his demons are and how far he is willing to go to protect the ones he loves.

Kalen goes through so much in Black Moon my poor heart almost didn’t survive the journey. There was so much that happens I am afraid

Both the main characters are super stupid and annoying. Honestly. They make the same stupid mistakes over and over. I got so angry with them.

A couple of examples: the heroine is a former psychologist but never acts like one - very reactionary and not very mature. Then the hero keeps going back to the bad guy (and drinking his damn blood) over and over despite knowing the risks. Also, the way he responds sexually to the bad guy trying to seduce him over to the dark side at the end was icky (it al

Could not finish this one. Got about half way through and never really connected with the charactors. Both the H/H irritated me. The story was choppy and not very believable for me. Loved the First two books in the series so I may pick this up again. Maybe it will redeem itself later and I want to continue to read future books in this series hoping they will be as good as the first two.

Way too much angst for me. I also felt like I was reading a YA book rather than a romance book so the sex scenes were awkward.

The book had a lot of potential but I felt Kalen's story happened too early in the series. It really should have been the last book in the series or one of the last books. There wasn't time to get to know him and the team together and seperately for me to care what happened.

Also I felt considering his age and experience he needed some growing up to come into his skin so

I read this book in one sitting today, and haven't read the first two books. I found the plotline intriguing, and there was some internal and emotional wrestling with what I thought about Kalen, the main character. Everytime he did something wrong, the author makes you want to scream at the pages and reach in to try and shake some sense into him.

Mac's character, left me not quite convinced. She seemed submissive one moment, then tried to sound more alpha the next. Her sexual dialogue with Kalen
Crazy for Books (Stephanie)
I've been looking forward to these characters, Mac and Kalen. But this woman is the dumbest character ever, especially for someone who was a trained therapist. I mean, come one... she freaks out on a man who has had a horrible childhood and never felt, loved, wanted or cared for. Yes, he did something without talking to her, but she should have a better grasp at handling things than she has.

Also, all the keeping of secrets. She's mad at him for doing things without talking to her. Yet, she won'
