Your senior year in high school is supposed to be fun, exciting and full of friends. Everything went just that way for Shay Tafford until graduation. After graduation, she and Hugh went to the Senior Shuffle. Little did they know it would be interrupted in such a rude way. The Darkness descended on the high school looking for Shay and Hugh. They had to protect their friends, so they edged toward a back door. Suddenly the fire alarm went off and everyone was running outside. They got away but more surprises were on the horizon for them. They went to a safe house for cryptids. It was protected from the Darkness and they could stay there awhile. When they realize the Darkness would come for them even there, Shay sent out an invitation to all cryptids who didn't have a home. A wide variety of cryptids showed up and they prepared for battle. Shay however had even more than that to prepare for. Her entire life would change.

The second book in the Cryptid series and it's just as fabulous as the first. I love these characters! They are young but intelligent and dealing with teenage issues as well as cryptid ones. Brina writes these characters with such wonderful personalities you can't help but like them and root for them to win. The idea that all these cryptids could exist is stunning. A perfect series for the YA in your life! I highly recommend these.

I didn't find issues.

I gave this one 5 out of 5 books because it sweeps you right into the story.

Capture picks up with us taking a look at the events that happened at the end of book 1. Shay and Hugh are trying to blend in and be normal kids (which is a tiny bit difficult due to their golden eyes and the fact that they're irrevocably mated to one another) when chaos descends on Shay's school. Shay and Hugh escape but Malsumis' minions are hot on their tails (must.not.make.shapeshifter.pun) and there aren't many places they can go that won't put their friends or families in danger.

So they flee into the wilds and set up camp in a safe house. And then Shay invites all the other displaced cryptids to them. I'm going to be honest, I was with Hugh on Shay's spur of the moment invitation. She put herself and everyone else in the house in danger because she has so little knowledge of the way the cryptid world works. Yes, things worked out and she's ultimately fulfilling her part of the prophecy but, holy hannah!, didn't your mama ever teach you not to invite strangers into your house when you're being chased by a madman? That said, I liked learning about the different types of cryptids that are roaming the wilds of America and I hope we learn more about their social structure and how some of the more extreme ones have managed to stay hidden from humans.

An entertaining read that tied up several loose ends from book 1 while opening the door for more adventures (and danger) for Shay and Hugh in the future.

Review is for all 3 books
#1 "If I had only known then, what I know now, I never would have let him go."

"He loves you Shay, just admit to yourself and embrace it. Embrace who you are."

"We're connected he and I and, we're in this whole mess together."

#2 “Which scares the hell out of me. How did I end up in a war? I’m only eighteen years old for goodness sakes!”

“Tonight we fight for our freedom. For who we are and for what is our birthright.”

“You don’t have much of a choice. Time to own up.”

#3 “She's nothing like I expected and yet she’s everything that I've ever wanted, but I don't know how to tell her. I love you seems like such a simple phrase that doesn't really express everything she makes me feel.”

“We have each other. That’s how this all started remember? Maybe it has to end that way as well.”

“I watch his eyes as something in their golden flecks hold an honest love I never thought I’d have. And as I watch the power swirl around in them I realize he’s right. He’s all I’ll ever need. When this is all over, if it ever is, I could survive on that. Being with him is like oxygen, there’s no way I could live without it.”

“Go home, Shay Tafford. Go home and rule for your mother. She’s proud of you.”

Man what an amazing ride this has been! Watching Shay and high together has been such an amazing adventure! I'm sad it's ending but, I have a feeling these characters aren't doing speaking to our author!
Shay is Cryptid as is Hugh! When Shay meets Hugh her life explodes into craziness but! also in love! They are perfect together. In these tales you see them fight darkness, crazy power suckers, and save so many wondering souls and people that even though there is so much fighting going on you see the love this author out into this book!
Shay can't believe how lucky she is to have someone like Hugh in her life! They are part of the prophecy I won't tell you what it is and if it comes true but, I will tell you this books opens up an amazing world of paranormal that I haven't read about in a long time. Mothman, Harpy, Shifters, and people who can see and talk to Ghosts.
There are some amazing moments of bravery, love, and darkness in these stories! I would recommend it to all paranormal lovers!

I was given these books in exchange for an honest review (MMW)

While I enjoyed Reveal, I loved Capture. Shay's story will engage you and take you for an emotional journey. Brisk in pace, you will not want to stop until the battle is decided. I look forward to the final book in this series.

Excellent

Really enjoying this series. Love Shay, how she is coping with everything, her feelings just seem typical. She isn't whining about it, she is taking care of business so life can move on.

*I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review*

Capture is book #2 in the Cryptid Tales series. Warning, do not read this one without reading book #1, Reveal. This is not a standalone novel, and I guarantee you'll be lost without reading the first book. Please see my review of Reveal for more regarding the background and characters.

The story starts at the prior cliffhanger ending and moves along lightning fast. Hugh and Shay go into hiding to prepare for the inevitable battle with bad guy Malsumis. An amazing array of Cryptids join them in training for this fight. I love the array of characters: mothman, harpy, centaur, minotaur...the number of mythological creatures that exist in this world is staggering. I just wish they featured a bit more prominently and were more developed.

This fantasy world is intriguing, but I don't feel like I know much more now than I did at the beginning of this book. Unfortunately main character Shay is in the dark about everything. Since the novel is told entirely from her point of view, we only learn what she does. I'm dying for more background about Cryptids, their place in the world, etc. Perhaps Shay needs to corner a few other characters and hold them hostage until we're provided with more information.

The same can be said for Malsumis. For a big bad 'Darkness', he's just not all that scary. The reader, through Shay, knows next to nothing about him. I was somewhat surprised his background and motives weren't explained more. From what is revealed, he's been at his scheming for quite a long time. He didn't even do that last minute reveal the villains seem to love doing in so many stories. I'm looking forward to reading the third book, Settle, because I'm hoping we'll finally be given more information about the Cryptids. I also hope that Shay's father will appear in book three.

Capture is a super quick read with lots of action and dialogue. There really isn't a dull moment since something is happening on every page. I recommend Capture to those high school and up that enjoy a light paranormal romance.

I was given this book in exchange for a review. However when I requested the book, I didn't realise that it was a series and that I was being given the second book. So I started this book without reading anything of the first book except the reviews and blurbs.

I expected to not enjoy it. Aside from the mainstream books like Divergent or The Mortal Instruments, I have pretty much stopped reading fantasy/supernatural series books. Mostly because I just don't enjoy them as much as I used to. Also, as I was starting from the second book, I expected to be lost. And I was.

The book seems to continue right exactly where the last book dropped off and there isn't much explanations or anything to help a new reader through. I found that disappointing. I mean I had to find out who Jeremy and Chad were through reading reviews from the first book.

However, I could tell that the story was good. I liked the idea of Cryptids and I found the romance between Hugh and Shay to be cute. I thought it was unique in some ways and I enjoyed the writing style.

The books lost points for me mainly because I was lost with all the funny names and things and also because I felt that it was very under developed. This book is incredibly short. I felt like halfway through the books, when Lacey was telling Shay about all the different mystical creatures, she was lost. She barely knew that anything existed yet in a couple of pages, she somehow managed to save hundreds of Cryptids from the villain and she was made queen. So that part didn't sit well with me.

However it was an excellent story and I would recommend checking it out (start with the first book though).

This book picks up exactly where book one ends, which i found great!

Hugh and Liz were enjoying a bit of normality at the Senior Prom when Liz hears in her head to run. And the small delay causes them to be there when the enemy storms into the room.
They luckily escape - this time.

They need to go into hiding and Hugh takes them to a safe house that has wards around them, keeping them safe from enemies...for now.....

The house is a safe house for all cryptids, not just Hugh and Liz.
After several days in the house, Liz decides that they should call other cyptids -build an army and take on the biggest enemy of them all.

Of course the war doesn't go smoothly. Ups and downs, loves and losses, new friends and new enemies.

Cliffhanger is there and I'm itching to read the next book which is on my agenda soon.

A great series, not too heavy, written really well, likeable characters and a page turner. Read in a couple of sittings. I think its OK for YA, no explicit sex scenes of bad language, just a good storyline!

This book begins right where the first one ends, Shay and Hugh at the Senior Shuffle. Erica, one of the meanies from book two and several of her minions show up. She tries to capture Shay and Hugh but Olivia to the rescue. Shay and Hugh along with Olivia get away. They drop her off and tell her that she doesn’t know them. This part makes me sad, as Olivia was my favorite character from book one in the series. They of course hide and regroup- with several other cryptids joining forces. The new characters help her to fight Malsumis and his followers. Since this is the second in series you know of course that there is no resolution between Shay and Malsumis yet. But the second book was fast paced and with more action. So that was a plus. Another thing that the author has going for her is that there is still no love triangle. Praise all that is holy! Although Shay and Hugh could cut back on telling each other I Love You just a little.

What can I say I love this series Brina Courtney has turned the shifter and mythi creatures wold on end. This is so far from the normal shifters I love that shay is not a simple cat or mosi shifters as depicted in the book. Shay is the most porewful cryptid and we find out why in this book as she is once again hunted by the darkness.as she and Hugh try to save themselves and the other cryptids so many questions are answered this I'd a great read I thoroughly enjoyed this book and think you will too

Super quick read, continuing right on from book 1, Reveal, which must be read first. The prose is easy and I like the main characters, which is a breath of fresh air, since it seems like most YA protagonists have at least some character trait that really rubs me wrong. I can't be exact, but I felt Ike there were some continuity issues in the book, maybe carry over issues from the first book that didn't match up. This series is fast paced, which is good, but things could be more developed. I just "like" it.

I was so excited to finally be able to read book 2 of this awesome series.Shay and Hugh have faced the Darkness in book 1 and in this they are being chased by the Darkness and his helpers. This is a book that will have you laughing, and saying WOW. This series is going great and my only complaint is it wasn't long enough. The story was well written and fit into the length but I wanted more. I will definitely be on the lookout for more of this series. 5 fangs.

Shay & Hugh's story continue in quick procession of reveal. I read it quite quickly. I couldn't put it down. Shay finds out there's so many more types of other crytids out there and when she's in the fight of her life finds out she's meant to be so much more.

I almost didn't want to make a review because I want to read Settle. So I will. No time to waste!!!

I loved the story. The whole concept was exciting to read. Again, the only downfall is that it's YA. Of course it's hard to feel like a teenager again when you're much older lol
