I started writing at 8 years old and when I speak to kids at schools or libraries I show them the stories I wrote as a child. I loved mystery series like Judy Bolton and Nancy Drew, and my DREAM was to write a series of my own. This happened when My Sister the Ghost was published by Avon books in 1994.

Since then I’ve been fortunate to write other series like The Seer, Dead Girl trilogy, Strange Encounters, Regeneration and Curious Cat Spy Club. I recently added a mini mystery to the Curious Cat Spy Club series titled Dog Rescue Time Warp which has a surprise ending.

I love hearing from fans and always write back. And I’ll send a spy activity packet to anyone that asks. Email link at www.LindaJoySingleton.com

Holy mash up Batman.... what in the name of sweet baby Jesus was that?

That was the Dark Lifer's Revenge, a short story by Linda Joy Singleton. A book which contains so many different elements in so few pages that my brain started frothing as if someone had pressed a Loveheart (TM) into it moist cortical centre. Is this bad? I don't know yet.

If you like these things:
1. Sexy cheerleaders
2. Sexy cheerleaders in pirate fancy dress
3. Sexy cheerleaders with names like Penny-Love
4. Aforementioned cheerleaders partying at a bash called the Pirate Booty Bash. Me thinks the booty does not refer to treasure here?
5.Dangerous dead body shifting revenge seekers called Dark Lifers
6. Benign body shifting living vehicles for dead ghosts called Half-Lifers (for a minute I thought the book might start talking about chemistry but it didn't so that made me sad - it would have added an extra element to the mash-up)
7. Psychic cheerleaders who see dead people and read peoples auras.
8. People of a cheerleadery persuasion who have raven haired spirit guides who talk to them in their heads.
9. A transcendental dog called Cola.
10. A team of dedicated hunters called the DDT (and here was me thinking that this was a banned insecticide) whose job it is to hunt down Dark Lifers as the Dark Disposal Team.
11. A self-writing magic book.
12. Ghost visions

Then you will want to rub this book all over yourself until it hurts. If, on the other hand your're not a fan of any of these ideas in singular or multiple combinations then move on to the next free Kindle download. And gentlemen, the first three points occur in the first two pages and then all further cheerleader sexiness is neglected... just so you know and don't get all disappointed.

55% of the kindle edition you can get from free is actually this short story... The rest, well simply put, I thought it was longer. And it wasn't- so I was quite disappointed at the cut off. Couldn't more be said?

I understand Sabine, the mean character, actually is from a different series than Amber (DEAD GIRL), and I don't understand how we can be given such a cliched opinion of Amber's world & a more realistic, flawed version of Sabine's. I wasn't planning on reading any more by this author as we are coming to the end of 2012, and next year I have a special challenge, but I wouldn't read anything more on Amber. I don't like Mary Sue's. It was actually good for a free short story, hence the 2½ stars.

Obviously... baddies. Well, the presentation was done quite well, given that we had to be introduced to them very quickly. The fact it affects Sabine much more, automatically gives Amber more of a 'thumbs down'. Anything that shifts makes me smile... But Amber? All we know about her is:
1. Original idea alert! She's a medium XD
2. She has it all. Including boyfriend & status.
2½. Correction: she apparently isn't a cheerleader like the rest of the female, living characters.
3. She has a book which self-writes itself. I got a case of Deja Vu. Writing magically appearing on the page...

In conclusion, the females are either magic or an innocent cheerleader.

I probably would have enjoyed this more if I had read a book or two in the Dead Girl series first. As it was, Amber's character never really clicked for me. I did like Sabine (I've read the 1st book in her series) and the idea of a spirit looking for revenge was fun. In a creepy sort of way. Enjoyable but not mind-blowing.

The Dark Lifer's Revenge was a free Kindle book I downloaded on 01/24/13 for the Why Buy the Cow? reading challenge.

I thought this book was good. I wished it would have been longer because it sure seemed like there was a lot that could be written. I do understand it is a short story. Great book if you have about about 10 to 15 minutes to read.
