Stephanie's Big Story
The Sleepover Friends become writers for the new school newspaper, but Stephanie is annoyed when Karla keeps "scooping" her listings of upcoming parties for the "Social Notes" column and decides to find out just how Karla is doing it.

Stephanie's Big Story
PLOT: After a field trip to see how a newspaper is put together, the Sleepover Friend's class decides to put together their own newspaper and call it ITS ELEMENTARY (cute!) And it will feature all the news going on in Riverhurst Elementary School. Now they have to pick the people for each section. As well as an editor and photographer. The Sleepover Friends, of course, go out for sections that correspond to their personalizes. Since Lauren likes to eat she get's food critic. Patti gets editor (because she's the organized one). Kate gets photographer. Stephanie gets the social section. But she also has a co-writer Karla Simmons (who nobody likes because she's on the dull side). But that changes when she starts getting all the hot scoops first for parties and arrives there to cover them before Stephanie. How in the world could she possibly know that? She has NO social connections! Could it have something to do with the power of cordless phones? Then there's the position of advice columnist yet to be filled. Jenny Carlin wants the job but the Sleepover Friends can't see this being a good fit so it's up to one of them to do double duty.
*Patti tells Stephanie she's a snob? That's definitely not in character.
*And again no ELEVEN YEAR OLD should get AN APARTMENT that is "playroom". I don't even have that.
*What year is this? Lauren doesn't know how to use a cordless phone? I knew this series was old but I didn't know it was THAT old.
*Granted this is fast food, it's THREE different places. The school will give them back the money they have to spend, but since when does Lauren have money? She probably gets an allowance, but I doubt it's enough for three different fast food places in one day. None of these girls have jobs. But then again why am I surprised one of them has an APARTMENT?
*These are SIXTH GRADERS now. Is this party in the afternoon? There is NO WAY you can pay me to believe that.
*It's Elementary is a cute name for an elementary school newspaper. I like it!
*In all the years I've had a cordless phone not ONCE have I heard someone else's conversation. IJS
MY THOUGHTS: I have to remember these are fifth graders. Which is hard sometimes because even as I was reading about them in the mall, I was thinking I never got to go to the mall alone when I was 11 and it was right up the street from me. However, the whole drama about Stephanie finding out Kate answered her anonymous letter about Karla as if it was Karla writing a letter about her and not telling her that she'd gotten the Q and A section just felt like REALLY? How dare you tell someone you think is your friend's enemy that she should be nice to the friend and maybe learn something from her?! (shaking my head). And like Kate pointed out it wasn't even in a nasty way and she DIDN’T KNOW it was Stephanie. So it wasn't like she was suggesting to her to be nice to Karla. Even if she was that's something to get mad about? You don't have to agree. I had a suitemate who my mother suggested I be friends with in college and while I thought to myself you have GOT to be kidding me, (because this girl had a pet rat and the freaking thing kept getting lose in my room and scaring the ish outta me)I didn't get mad and not speak to her over it. (Reminding myself again they are in the 5th grade). And the thing about not wanting Jenny to have the advice position. Does it REALLY matter? These cliquey girl books make it seem like the world will end if something goes to the rival. They already have positions. Just taking one that they don't really want just so the person they don't like won't have it just seems immature and selfish and PETTY. So what if Jenny gets the position? They don't have to write in for any advice. They don't even have to read that part of the paper if they don't want to. And there is NO WAY that even in most cases even an adult can eat back to back three different restaurants in one day. I'm bloated just thinking about it. Lauren may be able to go through a refrigerator's worth of food in a night at a sleepover, but I think she learned a lesson. The position does sound fun tho. It was about the only one that did.

Well heck, I read this book last week but I don't remember what day. Nor do I remember why I didn't write a review - I must've been in a rush to play Red Dead Redemption 2. (#noregrets)
This one was pretty good, I liked the whole story about the class newspaper, and each girls' duties (like Lauren's restaurant reviews, and Stephanie vs Karla's social column,) and I especially liked the plot about the advice column and the mysterious author of it (.) The cordless phone stuff cracked me up - how high-tech! The Sleepover Friends' minds would be BLOWN by my smartphone ahahahahha.

I loved this series when I was younger so I was super excited when I found some books at the used bookstore when I was looking for something else. I bought this one because I remembered the cover, but now I’m wishing I had gotten more. Guess I’ll have to go back.
These girls are supposed to be in 5th grade, but I think Jr. High would’ve been a better setting. I don’t remember this much freedom or drama in 5th grade.
I never say this about a book, but I wish it had been just a bit longer. It’s only 86 pages, but another chapter or two would’ve been nice.

I gave it a 3 because it was not the best book. The book was about a class project and a sleepover
