How stupid of me to read the second to the last graphic novel in the series?
Seriously?
I got it because it says "Locke and Key: Alpha #1 which I assumed is the first one.
Apparently, I was wrong.
No wonder I didn't get most of what was happening. No wonder I was so confused.
Damn... Stupid. Stupid. Stupid.
All I can say about this is that it's super interesting. I loved the concept of keys opening either other dimensions or trapping demons. There are a lot of stuff you can do with a key it seems. And I liked how unique it was.
Regarding the entire plot of the series, I can't really comment on as I said, because this is the second to the last issue in this series (again... stupid... i know).
Anyways, I would try and find the "REAL" beginning of this series so I get to see what really happened to these people and why some of them ended up the way they did.
I cried again oh man... So yeah that was dumb, the fact that i didn't figure out why dodge was terrified of the wellhouse, like the mother of rendell was an echo and she died when she got pushed through the door, dodge was also an echo and he just had to pass through the door, Rufus proved himself really smart maybe he is living in his fantasy world but he is not stupid. Bode you sweet little kid get back in your body make your mother and siblings happy. Scot and jackie die after unlocking the parasites from their souls among others of course. A lot of the kids were saved. Keyhouse burns and honestly i think this might be the end of keyhouse and the keys. Erin voss thoughts also had a great part in saving the day. The killer mistake of dodge proved to be choosing bode's body to move into it helped him get the key, but he was in a weak body of a little boy, easily overpowered by Rufus who is sixteen.
Dodge is enjoying his apparent win and Tyler follows the advice from his dad and makes a new key that might be able to help also Rufus was awesome, the last issue in the story, and let's see how things wrap up.
I have always loved comics, and I hope to always love them. Even though I grew up reading local Indian comics like Raj Comics, Diamond Comics, or even Manoj Comics, now's the time to catch up on the international and classic comics and Graphic novels. I am on my quest to read as many comics as I can. I love comics to bits, may the comics never leave my side. I loved reading this and love reading more, you should also read what you love and then just Keep on Reading.
Ty makes the alpha key, basing on the principle that keys open both ways. The alpha key separates demons from souls. He climbs down a ladder near the well house that leads directly to the cave where he manages to undo Dodge's work on Kavanaugh and a few of the other possessed. Dodge flees using the same ladder and goes back to the well house where Rufus is waiting. Rufus carries him to the well house and burns his demon, but the separation kills Bode.
I have to say that the keys are ended prematurely the lives of a bunch of people. About Bode's life I'm thinking that to get is life back he is supposed to cross the door again but how ? The house is in fire, is he going to survive ?
The story follows the Locke siblings; the curious young Bode, his rebellious sister Kinsey and his mature brother Tyler. After their father is tragically murdered in a mysterious home invasion, they move to their ancestral home in Lovecraft (a very suitable name for the hellish place they're moving into) with their alcoholic mother. The Locke house holds many strange secrets, keys that unlock forbidden powers and ancient evils never meant to be released. It turns out that the murder of the Locke family's father may not have been a coincidence. There are higher forces at play, manipulating the living from the shadows and orchestrating the downfall of the entire world.
This was a great surprise. I've been reading manga my entire life, but I confess that I never got into American comics and graphic novels (until now that is.) This series managed to win me over and open up an entire new medium of fiction to me. I was impressed by how realistic and human the characters are, there are so many unique people that are developed with utmost respect and is an example of diversity done extremely well. It really does rival the best of Stephen King and other big horror writers of the same ilk. It's got body swapping, spirit battles, mind-bending powers, ghosts and demons, heavy metal culture, blood and guts, tears and trauma, it's a thrilling ride all the way through.
Every volume packed a handful of punches. Volume 4 was the weakest of the series but even that one had a strong finish that eventually led to an even stronger ending. Suffering and grief is portrayed with rich emotion. The character development is moving. The villain is merciless and is actively involved with the plot at all times. All the side characters play a big role in the climactic finale and they all get the satisfying resolutions they deserve. Great series.
