This multimodal text (with lift the flaps, envelopes to open and letters to read) shares a balance between both fiction and non-fiction as Dorothy and Frank Murphy (after winning a round-the-world trip) write back to their niece and nephew about their travels.
Each double-page spread shares a different part of the world and a contents page at the front gives the reader a useful overview with some notes on what the Murphys encounter. Each page contains a map, images of real mementoes and letter in some format. I enjoyed the humour that we get in the letter to Mary and Michael and it was refreshing to read what felt like 'real' letters which were informal and yet formative (with plenty of broad yet interesting fact).
I wonder now if places names and facts are somewhat dated. It would be good as an interactive app which could be updated.
