A richly illustrated, up-to-date atlas of world geography encompasses 130 maps of all seven continents, all reflecting recent global changes, as well as full-color photographs that capture the diverse cultures, peoples, and geographies of the world.
The National Geographic Society (NGS), headquartered in Washington, D.C., United States, is one of the largest nonprofit scientific and educational organizations in the world. Founded in 1888, its interests include geography, archaeology, and natural science, the promotion of environmental and historical conservation, and the study of world culture and history. The National Geographic Society's logo is a yellow portrait frame—rectangular in shape—which appears on the margins surrounding the front covers of its magazines and as its television channel logo. Through National Geographic Partners (a joint venture with The Walt Disney Company), the Society operates the magazine, TV channels, a website, worldwide events, and other media operations.
There are times when just looking at pictures is an enjoyable way to spend the day. National Geographic's Picture Atlas provides pictures from all over the world.
This is a great book for times when you just want to kick back and be in awe of the work that the photography crew for this publication does.
This was one of my most used and referenced books as a child along with the encyclopedia set. I can remember unwrapping this book one Christmas morning and and being mesmerized by the large glossy color photos. In the days before the internet National Geographic did wonders to invoke my natural curiosity and general interest of the world at large. This book served as my sole source for memorizing every capital of every country, state and province. Some country borders and names have been changed since its publication date but at this point such inaccuracies only strengthen the nostalgic appeal.
This is so handy even tho' an older book. Lots of helpful data for school reports etc. generally brief. The pictures are great and so are the maps. But no doubt the maps change each year due to the politics of our time.
