For Sonny Moore, writer and family man, chance discovery and the force of untethered past are about to impact on his life in ways both unimaginable and profound. Faced with events he cannot explain, and those he does not even wish to contemplate, his world and the worlds of those closest to him spiral down into a realm of need and hurt, where ghosts walk - and occasionally ...more

One of the things I've never liked much about horror are the two-dimensional, wooden characters who are just vehicles for a plot. You know, the blonde bimbo who runs up the stairs instead of out of the house. There's none of this here - the characterisation is just incredible and you're drawn right into the middle of these people's lives!

I don't want to give too much away - but this book is a psychological rollercoaster that I would thoroughly recommend to any reader. Just make sure you read it

I'm not very good at book reviews but I feel compelled to recommend this book. An emotional rollercoaster. Fascinated and frightened me in equal measure. Well done Gary.

As with his previous novels Gary Murning has, once again, not only captured this reader from the first page and taken them into the world of his creations, but has also succeeded in giving one a reason to remain there well beyond the last page.

His characterisation is as ever masterful, with a depth that begs the question, what were his cast of characters doing before the events of the current novel, surely there must be some tales to tell of the times before Sonny & Ashley got married? What

It is not often I do not finish a book but 60% into this particular read there was a scene I found so disturbing and ugly that I did not wish to read on. From a literary point of view the story is well structured and written if a little confusing and I can understand those who did enjoy..reading is a personal experience and what some readers find abhorrent others may find acceptable...so be it...

North East Readers: Questions and Answers with Gary Murning 1 7 Apr 28, 2012 05:28AM
Gary is a novelist living in the northeast of England.
