Derrick and Trevor used to have an incredibly passionate relationship, full of spontaneity and sizzle. Now that their son is off to college, they want to put their days of routine, vanilla sex behind them and bring back some of that spark.

Realizing that they're empty-nesters, Trevor begins to notice their age difference. He suddenly feels old and unsure of himself, and is

The blurb isn't lying. This book is all about non/miscommunication.

I admit I typically do not like this kind of set up if it's thrown in as a trite plot device, but knowing that the entire story IS about the lack of proper communication, I was completely fine with it.

This was well written and had in abundance what I typically like my angsty romances to have - longing, want, doubt, insecurity. Make no mistake these poor guys go through all of these emotions in spades. Both Derrick and

3.5 stars. Good m/m romance about a couple in a long-term relationship who, after seeing their son off to college, hope to reconnect with each other, but... they don't talk to each other about it, both too afraid that they're losing the other. Sometimes I'm frustrated by stories in which the major conflict could be solved by a simple conversation, but with this one, I could see myself behaving exactly as did the main characters, so it felt realistic to me.

So folks, this is how breakups and divorces start. I found this story totally believable and bit too close to home for me actually. So imagine, this is one month of disconnection. Then it's three months of both people being afraid or too tired to have the conversation. Then it's six months and now it just seems normal. Finally it's a year later and all communication and connection has been lost.

Luckily in this story, Derrick (view spoiler)

I’ve read a number of KC Burn’s books, and have enjoyed them all. Which is why I was very surprised when First Time, Forever did not measure up to her previous novels. The story tells the tale of Derrick and Trevor, a married couple who just dropped their son off at college. Feeling free for the first time in years, the two men hope to explore the steamier side of their sexual relationship now that their son is out of the house. However, misunderstandings, a bad wax job and long work h
This is a novella about a married gay couple who tries to reconnect sexually after their son leaves home to go to college.

It wasn't bad, in general. It's just that, even though the MCs came across as hot and caring for each other, I couldn't connect with their emotions. The major suspension of disbelief I had to exercise didn't help either. I know men have no real skills in communication but this was too much. They both walked around in a permanent state of arousal, wanting each other like crazy
While it's a little bit hard to believe that Trevor and Derrick never had 'date night' for five years after Trevor's son moving in with them (I mean, really?? Not once?! Not using the benefit of hotel and that teens would love to spend the night at their friends'??); but I find this story quite cute, actually.

I always like stories about established couple and their problems. Reading how both men struggling with their issues (Trevor thinks he's getting too old for Derrick; Derrick wonders if Tre

This was a cute book about a couple who have been together long term and all of a sudden are alone again after their son has left for college. They both are having issues with who they are now that they are older and alone again and how to rekindle their relationship. I enjoyed the story and it is full have a lot of miscommunication and misread situations which make you feel bad for each of them. First Time, Forever opens up with Trevor and Derrick dropping their son Luke off at college. Luke used to live with his mother, but after her death Trevor gained custody and Luke moved in with the two men. Although Derrick was relatively young at the time to be raising a then 14 year old, the men had a solid relationship and were both ready and enthusiastic about being full-time parents.

Having Luke around definitely took a toll on their

This tale of two empty-nesters trying to reclaim the passion they once had in the bedroom while each thinks the other is no longer interested relies solely on the characters to carry the story. Although there is little plot and all of it is relatively predictable due to the nature of the story, this is a nice exploration of two men who love one another but let life and fear get in the way. This is neither a bad story, nor a great one. It's enjoyable, but mellow.

This novella is almost painfully real in capturing how quickly, in certain circumstances, a relationship can experience misunderstanding, a breakdown in communication, and suppressed sexuality. (For those who like sex scenes, don't worry. They're still there.) The author does a great job at explaining the situations and feelings each character is experiencing. As new empty-nesters, the younger man is working long hours and is unavailable, while the older man is stressing about his upcom

Married couple, Trevor and Derrick, just sent their son off to college and are now experiencing an empty house for the first time in years. While they miss their son, there's no denying the fact that years of extra caution can now be thrown out the window and they can act like the wanton couple they once were. However, increased health issues, a few stray hairs and being weeks away from turning 40 causes Trevor pull away from his younger husband.

Very readable book about a couple who've been together for 9 years. Their son goes off to college and they try to reconnect. I don't usually like "big mis" stories but this didn't annoy me as much as they normally do because both were trying to fix things even while they were not talking and being jerks and because (thankfully) the timeframe was short. The sex was pretty hot too and I enjoyed the experience of reading the book.
The problem I had was that I found it difficult to believe that this
This was a DNF for me ... I had a couple of problems with this story which kept me from finishing ... firstly, I resented the implication that turning 40 was old!!! ... I'm in my mid 40's and despite the odd ache, twinge and pain, I don't consider 40 (or 45) the end of the world! Trevor's constant harping about his age and the changes occurring to his body, just annoyed me ... try giving birth to 4 kids and then we can start talking worn out mate! ... My second issue was that I found the reading ...more

If people would just sit down and talk things out...well, I guess we wouldn't have a large percentage of the books we do have, right? Fun story, but it's frustrating reading about The Big Misunderstanding over and over.

Insecurity, miscommunication, & incorrect assumptions make up about 90% of this book. There are moments when I wanted to scream at them to "FUCKING TALK TO EACH OTHER ALREADY!" like when Derek was checking Trevor's email or when Trevor chose hurting Derek's feelings over telling him about the ball-waxing disaster. But they're so very flawed & relatable that I loved them both.

Charlie Belmont's narration was excellent. He has such a smooth voice and reads at the perfect speed. I so wish h

I usually love KC Burn's story. I'm not sure why I couldn't get into this one. But there were times I felt like yelling at the playback or just stop already and talk to each other. These are two men that have been together for a while, they have already weathered some tough changes, and yet now all of a sudden they seem so insecure not only in themselves but in their relationship. I'm glad they finally started talking but them seem to waste so much time getting there.

This book was cute. It had a good story line, kept you wanting to know/hear the rest. And The narrator did a good job. Glad I took the time to listen to this one.

Derrick and Trevor have fallen into a routine since Luke moved in with them. Now that Luke is off to college, Derrick hopes to rekindle some of the spark that he had Trevor had in the beginning of their relationship. Things aren’t going according to plan and Derrick starts to wonder if Trevor is still in love with him.

This isn’t one of those books filled with high-impact action and constant thrills. It is more of a ride through treacherous waters where you don’t realize you are drifting too far from shore until it’s too late. Derrick and Trevor made sacrifices when Trevor’s son comes to live with them (five years ago) after the death of his mother. They had to be very careful with everything, since Logan’s grandparents were fighting for custody. They became very vanilla, wit

Just a couple of weeks ago I had not read a book by KC Burn and now I am doing my second review for her. And even though this story was a novella, which can sometimes have plot difficulties because of the length, this book didn't not fall victim to that problem. Ms. Burn has gone from "new to me" to "auto-buy" and I am so happy to add her to the family.

This novella was a really nice change in that it is the story of an "older" couple. Most of the stories we read are about finding love, this one

The writing was a bit choppy for my taste, but the plot and the characters made this a great story!

It was hard to determine a time frame because of the changes in point-of-view. That was a struggle for me, not because I purposely keep track of novels day-by-day, but because in the back of my mind, I'm usual figuring it out. Blame it on those annoy instant love young-adult novels!

I wish there had been more interactions between Luke, Trevor and Derrik. I wa

What was a little frustrating about this story is that the conflict could have been resolved if the MCs just talked to each other. Their fears of not being attractive and no longer wanted by the other were non-existent because they are still so hot and in love with each other. On the other hand, I found their fears to be very believable and under the circumstances – it could happen to a real couple. Although the age gap is not that much, Trevor is 39 about to hit his 40th and Derrick is five yea ...more

I've been reading a lot of books about married couples in long established marriages and I like it. All romance isn't about being single and looking for love. There's also the flip side of the coin. Married couples who've lost that zing in their relationship and are working their way back to each other.

Even though the characters are male, I found Derrick and Trevor's relationship and problems very relatable. They've let their sex life fizzle once Trevor's son comes to live with them. But once Lu

I LOOOOOOVED this book. Truly. I did. Enter Trevor and Derrick. They've been married for several years and Trevor is hitting the big 4-0 and he suddenly starts to feel old. Derrick is 6 years younger and completely unaware of Trevor's fears. So, the story goes back and forth with Derrick and Trevor giving their perspective of different issues, fears, wants, desires. I cannot say enough about this wonderfully written story. I was entranced. K.C. Burn enveloped me into this world where I felt like ...more
