I decided about a year ago to try and read some of the books that had been on my want-to-read list on Goodreads for a long time. Most of those books come from book reviews I have read in Library Journal or Booklist in the course of my library work. Whoever wrote a good review of this book owes me a week of my reading life back. I finished it, but the second half was hate-reading out of spite since I had started it.

This book should be retitled "Sir Wulfstan the unfaithful and disloyal". Although we were supposed to be on his side, Wulfstan drifted through life with events happening to him. He never had to pay any consequences even after the second ?!? time he got a woman who was not the fiancee he claimed to adore pregnant. And as far as that fiancee, Beulah, goes, first there is no way to understand why he loves her as she never gets any dialog to establish a connection to him, and second, she forgives all his trespasses and adores him anyway when all is said and done. Why?

Wulfstan also seems to betray every friend he he does have in the book and sulk when he doesn't get his way. I didn't feel anything but annoyance for him, and there is not enough plot to have made it worth reading. I am giving one star only because I finished it.

A cross between a romance novel and historical fiction. Set in England and France in the 1300's, the conflicts between the two countries come in as well as court love relationships. A fast read with some history thrown in.

Sequel to Strangers and Pilgrims by the same author, but not quite as good. I didn't care for the characters as much, even though many featured in the first book, and the storyline wasn't as gripping (or shocking!). However, as a light, quick romance read it was fine.
