First off, I should mention this book is written by the mother of CPT Hampton. As someone accustomed to reading non-fiction military books written by either the veterans themselves or by reporters who were embedded, it was definitely different. Obviously as a mother you have a limited, one-person view of the individual, and as a typical mother does, accomplishments are highlighted and faults are glossed over or omitted. But this view was augmented throughout with letters and emails from other ...more

I picked it up bc I kept passing by it at the bookstore and seeing the cover. I'm guilty, I bought the book bc of its cover. (before I realized it was 30 bucks too! But would have paid double.) I bought it yesterday evening and at 2 AM I just finished it. Well put together and well for me, impossible to put down. A feel good true story on how we deal with loss and grief. It's great that she was able to do that for herself and for people like me who needed to read t. I'm sure this wasn't helpful ...more

Sad...but uplifting...

I've lived here in south Carolina, not far from Easley, all my life and how this event slipped by me is a puzzle. I'm so glad that I found it now.
Kimberly Hampton was a beautiful intelligent woman. An inspiration to others . She knew what she wanted, she went for it & bless her heart, she was smart enough to succeed. It takes a special kind of woman to achieve her success.
May God bless her parents and family. He offers strength & healing. At some point the pain

Kimberly's Flight by Anna Simon and Ann Hampton is such an inspiring book and also very education. I enjoyed reading about Kimberly's early life and then her military career and was saddened to learn that she was the first female killed in combat by enemy fire. Her helicopter was shot down in Iraq. Her mom helped write this book and has been very active in American Gold Star Mothers which is an organization for mothers who have lost a child in war.
