The idea of reading a medical reference guide as a regular book didn't exactly enchant me, but I am glad I did. Instead of putting this softcover volume away in the reference section, I decided to tackle it from start-to-finish. Guppers.
The layout is well planned out and makes it easy to peruse. There is a section for each area of the body (eyes, ears, stomach, etc.) with associated illnesses and symptoms for each. The beginning of each section has a simple guide listing the signs of sickness and what the possible problem could be. This makes it very easy to find an answer and then to read further to learn more. By far and away, this is the least complicated health reference book I have seen.
Now, if you read it as a book, be prepared to wonder if you are suddenly stricken with every illness listed. I learned about Reye's Syndrome (aspirin-related), Lyme Disease, Scarlet Fever, and the five types of Hepatitis. Dr. Koop was the Surgeon-General of the United States in the 1980s, where he came under fire from both the left and the right. Churchillian.
As with many of the health and medical books I own, I have reads parts of them according to information I needed at that time. I am marking them as "Read" and they are all 5 stars!
