this is a somewhat less polished novel than Sherry and Narcotics, but it is still breathtaking. in the sense that it will completely leave you gasping with its frantic pace and its chronicling of innumerable cigarettes smoked. as a newly back-off-the-wagon smoker (bad girl!), my throat was pleasantly raw while reading this and it added to my enjoyment immensely.

i'm not this girl. i nearly was this girl, in my fresh-from-a-village-in-rhode-island new new yorker phase. i remember quite well what it

yea, I wrote it- I wrote it a few years ago but couldn't quite nail it and finally set it aside and wrote Sherry & Narcotics in one fast blast. But I was always a little heartbroken about this one & determined to finish it & get it out there one day. Sounds sappy, but I love this book with all my heart, its my first, it's younger and more playful & way waaaay funnier than Sherry & Narco. On this one, I wrote my face off for hours over years & it was agony & highs & ...more

the pre-story to author's first novel Sherry and Narcotics
this entertaining if harrowing story of lulu travels back and forth through her life, getting her to england and the beginning of a graduate program (where her first novel starts out, mas o menos) but man, the reader wonders if it could ever happen, cause lulu goes off the rails quite hard, in a number of ways, that could have very easily smashed her dead or done in about a hundred instances, but then, one could get run over by a bus too,

I must say that Nina Marie Gardner is possibly the Queen of writing the stories of dysfunctional, addicted young women. If she isn't the Queen, she is minimally a Princess. Although, in my opinion, this novella didn't have the gut-wrenching, rip you apart emotionality of Sherry and Narcotics, but it did have the components to it. I felt it was much lighter and had some humor to it.

I'm Not This Girl (Nina-Marie Gardner)

This is the story of a young lady Named Lulu. It is a raw, shocking graphic look at her troubled life. As she struggles to find herself, we are taken to L.A., New York, Arizona and ultimately back to London where she was born.

We meet her friends and family members, we are taken into her inner thoughts and feeling and watch as Lulu struggles within herself, to find truth and meaning in her life. We sit back and watch as she slowly sinks into self destruct wit

A wonderful book; written in the unique style of Nina Marie Gardner. It is raw, straight from the heart, fast paced and overall an easy and enjoyable read. It is a tale of addiction, recovery, failure, setbacks and ultimately redemption, albeit at a very high and tragic cost. It is a journey into the feminine psyche of our generation, that given its honesty leads to understanding.
