'Raw Deal' is a story of an American teenage girl, Lexi Dixon, who lived and loved life back in Europe. But the sudden death of her father made it necessary for her mother and her to return to the States. While trying to fit in she meats a 'hot' guy, Jace, who she really likes. However, their relationship doesn't seem to work out. When Lexi leaves high school for college, she is determined to forget everything about Jace. But college brings in even more problems...

At first I thought it was going to be a bit like the same author's book "Prodigal" and it seemed to start a bit slow. But it turned out to be a really great read with a tough emotional storyline. Cannot have been easy to write but the author has covered the sensitive topics very well. I am now looking forward to reading Book 2.

I snapped this story up because it was free on kindle. Now I plan to read the entire series. This story is a great depiction of the deception that says beauty, success, and money will bring happiness. You can have everything in this life and it still leaves you empty. Lexi's story is pretty familiar to me. I knew girls and desperate situations like this. Not the modeling, rich girl aspect of the story, but it was the aching inside and the trying to smooth over the pain unsuccessfully that struck ...more

Wow I can't believe how emotional this novel was! It was so good, but yet so heartbreaking! I am truly surprised by how powerful it was and how much I could relate to Lexi even though I haven't walked in her shoes!

I had been wanting to pick up this ebook for a while now and last night I finally decided to pick it up! I am so glad I did because it was such a deep story that I finished it in 2 days! I thought it would be a typical high school drama, but this story was so much more then that! Dayo

Let me start by saying, be warned, this is a series. The first book doesn't really have an ending, but this isn't one of those books that is just a few pages. Sometimes the book seems to go on and on; however, it kept me hooked the whole time. This is a Christian fiction novel, and I have to say it was refreshing to read one where all the characters didn't do the right thing. The main character Lexi Dixon, begins the book in high school and does she have some issues! There were times I just want ...more

I loved this book to pieces. It was so beautiful, so amazingly written and so real. I have been a reader of Christian Fiction since I was in seventh grade and I have never come across a book this real in my time of reading. I'm still (sadly) waiting to read the next one but I will definitely pick it up when I get the chance. It is an amazing book about the world's deception of beauty, money, and many other false successes we are tempted with. I hope to read and finish the series soon and start o ...more

Oh my gosh. I love this series sooooooo much! It's so real and doesn't try to sugarcoat life and all our troubles. It's so good for Christian readers and depicts so many challenges people face nowadays. My summary of this book:
Lexi Dixon is a senior in high school in LA. She does some modeling and dreams of becoming the next Shola Cardoso (basically, this books version of Tyra Banks). Through a turn of events, many of her friends are starting to become Christians, including her best friend and b

I was thrilled at the story of Lexi. Initially, I thought it was some random high-school novel but reading more captivated me. Dayo Benson is a good Christian author who doesn't automatically makes her characters a Christian overnight but gradually processes them and makes them understand God's love. Through their situation they come to know Christ and how much he cares for them no matter how messed up their lives are. Absolutely good storyline that captures the young adults. Well done Dayo Bens ...more

Mixed feelings.....

"Raw Deal" is a different type of Christian read. The focus seemed to be more on the people who were not Christians and the bad things they do.

I did not care for the man character at all. Lexi, is vain, superficial, thoughtless and very insecure. She spent most of of her time inside her own little bubble with not a thought or care for other people and their feelings.

I loved this book. Dayo Benson is a superb story teller. I could feel the pains and joys of the characters. It was so real, I felt like I was living their experiences.
Nothing felt rushed. No character felt out of place or flat. I'm giving it four stars because I only felt it was too much of a cliff-hanger. I wished it ended differently. Great book!

I loved this book! At first I didnt see how God was relevent in this case and then it was made clear! I was just a bit annoyed as it seemed the characters were shoving their religion down Lexi's throat. It was a great book and I literally stayed up all night reading the series!

“A lifetime spent in misery is not Your will for me, But the storm never seems to end. Darkness covers my mind, chaos reigns within me, Against my own choices, I contend. The fire of trial burns harshly around, But rather than purify, it consumes. Your grace is what I need, but rather fear abounds. And my heart sings sorrowful tunes. But where there is life, there is still hope, A hope for restoration though everything crashes. I don’t know where to turn, so I turn to You. Oh Lord, give me beauty for my ashes.” 0 likes
