Another Tor.com short story

This one seems to have won some kind of award, and while it's interesting fiction I don't think it's any better then anything I've read in a while. Maybe that just means I read a lot of good stuff?

What I love the most about Marissa Lingen's style is that she always has the right voice for her narrators. It's as though someone is reading aloud from their journal, or reminiscing about an interesting time in their childhood, rather than simply existing as words on a page. Every story she writes, no matter what the setting, is completely unique unto itself.

Like many people who write fiction for a living, I'm a good deal more comfortable making things up about other people who don't exist than I am figuring out what to say about myself. I've sold enough short stories at this point that I have a standard one-sentence biography: "Marissa Lingen is a freelance writer who lives in Minnesota with two large men and one small dog."
