Once upon a time, Natalie hated reading and never wanted to be an author, yet here she is. A little thing called Twilight came along and changed things. After reading the sparkly vamp series, she continued to read more, consuming one vampire story after the next. Then one day she had a dream. One that she couldn't shake. Four days later she typed the dream out, and that became the start of her YA paranormal romance novel, The Keeper.

When Natalie's not reading or writing, she can be found with her husband supporting their two young adult children and hanging out with her grandchild. Or maybe running around with her camera taking photos while camping and/or hiking. Or lastly, and most probably - She's watching TV while simultaneously purusing her social media sites.

Their family resides in the state of Virginia where Natalie's muse keeps her awake late at night.

I haven’t been this excited about writing a review in a long time! First, let me tell you about this truly amazing story. Billie is comfortable, almost perfectly sanguine with her life. She’s the triple threat; popular, pretty and a good student. Billie doesn’t have a care in the world. Or does she? Billie has a reoccurring nightmare. That, in and of itself, is not so unusual. But, Billie always has the same horrible nightmare on her birthday and has had it as long as she can remember. Now, that is unusual.

So, while Billie loves everything “Birthday,” like parties and gifts, her special day is always tinted; marred by a sweat-inducing, heart pounding, scream provoking nightmare. Billie’s sixteenth Birthday is no different. After a night of horrors, Billie wakes, gathers her composure and is surrounded by her family for a morning of birthday wishes before school. Billie’s mom gives her a special gift for her birthday, a family heirloom, a necklace that’s been passed down for generations and always bequeathed on the sixteen birthday. Affected by the necklace, so intense; Billie feels hot panic and passes out. This is the beginning of many strange occurrences to follow. But, there is more to tell.

After Billie’s Birthday “vapors”, she convinces her parents to allow her to go to school. She goes to school, wearing her birthday necklace with little on her mind other than meeting up with her best friends Arianna and Jocelyn. In addition, Billie is looking forward to seeing her boyfriend, Tony, and receiving whatever gift he may have for her.

Billie thinks everything is okay, that the morning was a fluke, that the world is still on its axis. After all, Ramey is leering and Tilly is quiet. Nothing out of the ordinary about that. Freak Boy is staring at Billie. Now, that’s different. Freak Boy is a “non-entity” like so many others that don’t merit entrance or warrant notice in Billie’s world. Although Billie has been in classes with Freak Boy since elementary school, she doesn’t even know his name. But, he knows a great deal about Billie. Freak Boy, whom Billie will later learn is named Tyler, knows who and what she is and has been sent to be her Watchman.

Tyler quickly reveals his identity to Billie later that day. Time is of the essence; Billie’s sixteenth birthday is a catalyst, the bringer of her destiny. Billie learns that the world is a lot bigger and scarier than she’s ever imagined and the life she’s planned isn’t the life she will live.

As Billie learns more about her duties and gifts and begins training, her friends notice the weirdness meter inching higher and higher. But Billie is dealing with a lot. In fact, Billie is in danger--mortal danger-- and anyone around her might end up as collateral damage. And Billie also learns that some of the “non-entities” are more than they appear to be and aren’t friendlies. In fact, they’ve been waiting for her, searching for her, knowing that her sixteenth birthday would trigger her powers, making it possible to find her. They’ve been sent to kill her. And Billie’s strangeness causes Arianna and Jocelyn to distance themselves from her and Tony too, until he learns the truth. Arianna and Jocelyn, even her family don’t know she is literally fighting for her life.

No, Billie’s life isn’t what she thought it would be. It’s keeping secrets, dealing with scares, learning to fight and training to use her gifts with Tyler. In the middle of that, Billie and Tyler are growing more and more attracted to each other, so much so that Billie thinks it might be “some sort of superpower,” to which Tyler responds, it’s “hormones and it’s a bad idea.” He’s right!

And then Tyler is suddenly gone. Billie is devastated. She is lonely in a way she’s never experienced and has to be on guard every moment. As the danger pursuing Billie escalates, others are drawn into her new circle. They know who she is and are willing to aid in protecting her. But what can they do? They are only human. Billie must survive, if she doesn’t…

I love, love, love this book!!! Natalie Star has written a book with a dynamic cast. Billie is a likeable protagonist. But she’s not perfect; her character doesn’t morph into a saint as she grows in emotional, physical and mental power. I like that. Billie’s imperfection, while at times annoying, makes her feel real. Billie is self-absorbed and a little shallow like many teens and never completely loses those idiosyncrasies. Billie does mature as the story progresses to become what I affectionately call “kick-butt spunky.” Tyler’s character will strike an accord with many teens. He’s not part of the pretty-popular click or the jock-macho click; he’s a loner. Tyler has surprising depth. He’s a fearlessly passionate, extremely complicated being.

The supporting cast isn’t bad either. They are former love interests, new enemies, unsupportive friends, surprisingly helpful brothers and more. Natalie Star does a galvanic job of managing a busy cast. She’s written a fantasy story with such believable characters they will resonate with you. You’ll cheer for some and roll your eyes at others as you turn the page anxious to know what happens next. This is a must read!!!!

This was quite an incredible read!! I have reservations lately on YA books because they have been rather dry, but this one was amazing!! Billie, the main character, was quite a unique character with a quick temper and a tell it like it is attitude. She had a pretty cool and easy life until her 16th birthday hit. She was given a necklace that had been in her family for years, and with this necklace changes began to take place. Her eyes were slowly opening to a world she previously knew nothing about, and as a consequence, her whole life changes. The boy she had dated all through high school didn't appeal to her that way anymore. Her two best friends were slowly becoming distant from her life and new players entered the game. Her life slowly spirals out of her control.

At first, Billie was OK with it. So she was now friends with the school freak and steadily becoming closer to her brother. It was really interesting to watch her transformation. She went from a mouthy stuck-up girl to something entirely different. The two people she disliked most in school turn out to be her biggest allies and helpers. Throughout all this, she ends up falling in love.

Billie was a really relatable character and the story was fast-paced, page turning, and quite frankly unique. My only regret was that I had not discovered this author sooner, because she has talent in bucket loads. This was in no way a typical YA and I enjoyed every second of it!! Excellent Read!!!

A Write to Review

The story was unique and thought-provoking, unveiling Billie’s fate progressively with the unexpected occurrence of none of the characters knowing what gifts she really possesses. The plot moved quickly causing a little confusion at parts particularly concerning Billie’s destiny which could have been a little more detailed at the beginning even though questions are cleared up towards the end.

At first my impression of Billie was one of extreme dislike, she seemed like the typical ‘bitchy’ high school popular kid tormenting all of the kids around her. Her continued negative attitude towards “Freak Boy” and Ramey made her less likable as a character. As the story progresses we see Billie mature and recognize her attitude toward others not in her immediate circle needs adjustment. She also comes to accept her destiny and the problems she has to overcome.

The other characters were developed very well and were likable. Tony’s apparent accent was a little distracting for me but I did like that he supported Billie even though his tough guy persona was undermined by the pure paranormal situation no human would stand against.

There is just something about that necklace! I knew I was going to find out but I just had to be patient and let the story take me to unknown places.

This suspenseful ride took me on a real obstacle course not knowing what was going to happen next. I enjoyed the escape that this story allowed me to experience. I connected to Billie and found her vulnerability and her emotional reaction to the things realistic. I really enjoyed as the story unravelled bit by bit allowing me to understand a little at a time. This book was about good vs. evil and was well written. The story flowed effortlessly throughout. In some ways this was a story about life how unexpected turns keep popping up. I think this is a great book for YA or anyone who likes unpredictable paranormal stories.

"I needed time to think. Why was I not flipping out? I have a feeling what Reynolds said was the truth. Why was I so accepting of the news? All of what Reynolds said sounded stupid, but sort of made sense at the same time. I had always felt like I didn't belong in my life. Sure I was happy. I got decent grades, loved my family and friends and enjoyed life, but something had always been missing. I went with the flow as far as music, clothing and current fads but my true tastes lay generations before my time."

The Keeper is fast-paced and fun to read. The premise was interesting, but for me this story is about the characters. The author provides a great cast with many loveable characters and a few villains. Billie, the main character, is strong and brave, and a relatable teenage girl. Her story is about choices: she must choose whether to fulfill her destiny and who will ultimately capture her heart. I thoroughly enjoyed Billie’s journey as she learned to use her new supernatural gifts on her quest. She is never alone on her journey, accompanied by her friends, both human and supernatural. Billie and her companions must face dangerous enemies, and the book has some good, action-packed fight scenes. The Keeper kept me turning pages from the beginning to the very end.

I found out about The Keeper because Natalie Star contacted me to review this book on my blog, www.yanovelreader.com. As soon as I got it I started reading, and I ended up not being able to put it down and finished it in two days. One of the reasons I couldn’t put it down was because the story was so intriguing and very complex. It takes place over two years of the main character’s life, so there are a lot of twists and turns that keep you on the edge of your seat wanting to know what happens next.

I think my favorite thing about The Keeper is the uniqueness of the storyline. Most YA paranormal romances tend to deal with the same types of paranormal beings like vampires or werewolves and it is the main character that is human. In the Keeper it is the main character, Billie, who finds out that she has powers and a whole other world unfolds for her.

I really enjoy YA novels that have great character development and growth. I hate when the main character starts out as a whining teenager and stays that way throughout the story. In The Keeper, you clearly see Billie grow up and from the angsty teen to a strong young woman that cares deeply for those around her.

Another great aspect of The Keeper is the love story. I don’t want to spoil anything for anyone but I will tell you that a very interesting love triangle develops and in the end Billie gets to be with the most perfect person for her. It is not your typical love story which I really liked.

I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a unique story in the YA paranormal romance genre. I cannot wait to see what Natalie Star has in store for us : )

This fantasy novel was part one of a series aimed at young adults. At first I was interested but it was difficult to read the small print with lots of highlighted parts of words - a bit annoying.

Billie turns 16 and is given a charm with a gemstone that had been in her family for years. It is meant to be given to the oldest daughter to wear on her 16th birthday. The charm has powers and turns hot or cold depending who is nearby.

This was a fantasy novel with lots of action, good and evil forces a bit like virtual Pokémon.

I am so happy I read this. As an occasional reader of YA it's hard to find a book that will hold my attention, let alone find me eager to read the next in the series but, this is one. I finished it, and I'm on to next book.

I was given an ARC for my honest opinion.

Intetesting plot reminiscent of a ACOTAR novel but with good versus bad. The characters are likable and plot definetly leads itself to additional storyline or novellas. I enjoy the premise, would like maybe a prequel with some more background on our male characters and their experiences that got them to this timeline.

However, I felt like there was 75% lead-up to a quick ending that was rushed. Also quite a bit of backtracking and bringing others into the storyline.... Like each character got the backstory seperatly and yet they are all best friends and hand out daily.

This feels like a prequel to a series instead of the first in the series. The lead up to the climax is slow and then rushed. While I enjoyed the premise and the idea was a great one it just didn't feel complete to me.

Thank you to Natalie Star for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Wow! I loved this book. I immediately took to Natalie Star's writing style. It was clean, simple and direct with just the right amount of description to allow the reader to become submerged in the story. She had me from page one and never let me go. I'm still riding on the just-finished-a-good-book high.

The story begins with the protagonist, Billie, turning 16. She wakes up from the same nightmare she has every year on her birthday. She does her best to shrug it off and go through her normal day at home and at school. She has 2 best friends, Arianna and Jocelyn, and a loving, attentive boyfriend, Tony. Her family life is picture perfect too. Yet, she feels like she doesn't quite fit in, she's just going through the motions. Then, an emo-type boy who's been in the same classes with Billie since Kindergarten, who she's NEVER spoken to till this day, drops a bomb on her. She's special, she's chosen......she has a destiny. And he is her Watchman. She learns his name is Tyler and he's been watching her for years, waiting till she was ready to learn the truth. From this day on, Billie's life is in upheaval. It's a roller coaster ride as she's "gifted" with multiple powers, learning to wield them to protect herself and those she loves from the evil that relentlessly pursues her. She faces all of this while trying to keep her love life straight. She's developing deep feelings for her Watchman, but can their relationship have any real future?

Billie is a fun, cool character, someone I would've loved to have hung out with in high school. She has major attitude and is no-nonsense. She has a kind of I-don't-have-time-for-stupid-people outlook. I found it refreshing and entertaining. When she's first introduced, her attitude causes more trouble for her than good. But, as the story progresses her attitude becomes useful and is one of her many strengths. It gets her through a lot of the adversity she encounters. She's funny, honest, sarcastic and sometimes cutthroat. People should NOT get on her bad side or in her way. She's aware of her status as "bitchy girl" at school and it bothers her not one iota. But somehow it's endearing, especially with her softer side. She's very relatable. I took an instant liking to Billie and I was rooting for her all the way.

Every one of the characters in this book is distinct and likable, even the bad ones. If you read this book and see how difficult it would've been to keep certain characters distinct, you'll recognize what a talent Natalie Star is. I don't know how many authors could've pulled off such an intricate storyline with some very complicated characters like she did. She made it flow perfectly and seem easy, and I can't help but be impressed with where her imagination and writing skills led her.

What I liked the most about this book were all the risks the author took with the whole storyline. The twists and turns could've proved fatal to the book in someone else's hands, but in hers, they paid off big time. I thought I had a sense of where the story might head, and then it would end up somewhere totally different than I expected, in a good way. It wasn't predictable, but a continuity was maintained and she stayed true to the story and the characters to the very end. I also got the closure I'm always looking for at the end of a book. I'm definitely picking up whatever Natalie Star releases next.

There is some mild language, the "s" word is used a few times, and the intimate scenes, though steamy, were kept to what I'd call a PG rating. I'd say they were HOT as well as tastefully done. I recommend this book to jr. high aged kids and adults. Very fun and enjoyable!

So, let me first say that I did enjoy this book. I know this rating is a little on the low side for me (3.5 stars), but its only because I just couldn't really get into it like I like to. The problem might have been that it was a little repetitive. But it wasn't like I hated it. Its definitely worthy of your To Read pile.

This book is about a girl named Billie, who has a strange dream every year on her birthday. When she wakes up on her sixteenth, her bad dream has come once again. But even stranger, when her mother passes down a family heirloom to her, she passes out when the necklace is put on her. At school, things seemed pretty normal except "Freak Boy" talked to her, She knew he had always been in her class, but she honestly couldn't remember his name, or even recall hearing his voice. Somehow though, after he spoke to her that first time, she felt drawn to him. So when he suggested that she meet him, she couldn't resist. She skipped lunch with her friends and boyfriend to see what he had to day.

As it turns out, "Freak Boy" is actually Tyler Reynolds, her watcher. He had been watching her throughout her whole life. He had seen her the day that "the Mist" was gifted to her and he knew someday change would come to her, and when it did, he had to help her understand it. Though, he didn't have all the answers for her, he helped her get through the basics and work on using her gifts.

As Tyler and Billie became closer, the attraction between them was undeniable. As hard as they tried to fight it, it was impossible. As fate would have it, her boyfriend walked in on them one day while they were training and misinterpreted what he saw. As much as it hurt her, even after making him understand that it was innocent, she used the opportunity to break it off. She really wanted to be with Tyler. The bad thing was that not only did she loose her boyfriend, but her friends became distant too. To make things worse, Tyler couldn't stay forever, eventually, he would be called back and the Tyler that she knew would go back to being the boy that he lived inside. That day came sooner than she thought though, when he helped her save her dad from a fire at his office and was hurt pretty badly. Then not only did she loose her Tyler to a Tyler that didn't even know she existed, but she also lost her dog Sam when the building after him to save him.

With this strain of loosing her watcher and her beloved dog, and the distance between her and her friends, things became hard for her. Hey ex boyfriend was back in her life, and was trying hard to keep a watch on her for her watcher, but it was very stressful for him. Billie was starting to fight against evil forces and terrible creatures would come up out of nowhere. She only knew they were around when her necklace grew cold. She needed her watcher. She needed her protector that she knew was supposed to come. How will she learn to use her gifts if she doesn't have anyone to show her how? All she really wants is a normal life. Is there anyway for her to back out of being The Keeper? I guess you will have to read and find out.

Review as seen on Ed and Em's Reviews!

3.5/5 Stars

I was given this book from the author to review. I'd like to say thank you to Natalie Star for the opportunity.

The plot in this novel was so creative and fun. It was unique and filled with unexpected twists. The characters were pretty easy to like, though at first I had a lot of trouble understanding Billie, the main character. There were a few parts where I would've like to know more about what she was thinking and others where I thought the author had too much description for such a little detail. Her motives were hard to understand when it came to her three love interests and that was one reason that I had trouble falling in love. Also, the way the author wrote out the character, Tony's accent was very distracting. Personally, I didn't like it.

The plot moved a little too quickly. It was interesting and I really enjoyed it, but I wish Ms. Star would have taken a slower and steadier pace to her writing and spread out all of the information that she packed in. All of the details within the first 40% of the book could've been its own novel.

Also, I think it may have just been my converted copy, but there were a lot of punctual mistakes and misspellings. It made it harder to read the book. But the writing style was great and made the characters seem very realistic. She really wrote well and was able to capture the emotions of a sixteen-year-old going through a traumatic time with ease. It was refreshing to read something like that.

The love triangles in this book didn't really feel like one. I felt like Billie was immediately more attached to one over the other. I personally was also attached to one and didn't like the other. You would never guess who Billie actually ends up with. loved the villains! They are written extremely well. From the very beginning of the book, you know something is different about Tilly and she shouldn't be trusted. She's a great character and I loved reading the confrontations she had will Billie. Adrik is a crazy character and equally as addicting to read about. Billie also has some awesome friends! I loved her relationships with them. I was reminded of my friendship with my high school friends. They were fun and you could tell that they really loved and cared for Billie, even when they were fighting. And Pal rocks! Cats are eternal! He was one of my favorite characters, for sure.

The last three chapters are amazingly sweet and swoon-worthy. I love the way the entire book played out. It was an overall great read. I enjoyed it immensely. I recommend it for YA Paranormal lovers.

When I think of the name “Billie”, like many people I picture a boy. Well, this Billie is as feminine as they come, and she tries to make up for her more masculine name. When Billie is in kindergarten she has a strange occurrence. A man who no one else can see appears and gives her a “gift”. Then at 16, Billie is tossed into a world full of mystery and magic, where love is found only to be lost again. Billie must work quickly to learn about her gift and to discover the true meaning of being the Keeper…

Billie starts out as this stuck up girl who degrades people and constantly worries about her appearance. Over the course of The Keeper, I see Billie start to change. She reveals her inner thoughts and feelings and starts to act on them. Her life quickly spirals out of orbit, and she has to adjust quickly. Now, Billie has to juggle her newfound powers, a budding romance, and dark things trying to kill her. No big deal. Throughout all of these, Billie proves her strength and determination. Yeah, she has some “why me?” moments, but really who wouldn’t? Overall, I really like her character.

Star does a fantastic job of weaving a fresh, new paranormal story. Instead of werewolves, vampires or witches, she creates her own brand of paranormal. This adds a lot to the story, since it’s a new concept it doesn’t rely on clichés to make it a compelling and captivating read. Star also does a wonderful job tying all the subplots together. Many different things happen in Billie’s life: romance, heartbreak, creating new friendships and losing others. All of these events come into play in a timely manner. I don’t find them overly rushed or unbelievable… though I wonder at the abnormal number of people who randomly walk into Billie’s house without calling first…

Overall this is a story I really enjoy. I think a few of the concepts are hard to grasp, especially concerning Billie’s destiny, but in the end it’s not too confusing. I do like where the book ends. It is open for a sequel, and I am very happy with the characters. Many of my questions are answered… but many new ones have arisen. Hopefully, a second book will answer them all!!

The Cover:

I really like how this cover has different hues of red swirling around. The girl’s face looking down over the title makes it very dramatic and powerful. The swirls of color around the title remind me of lightning and continue with the powerful theme. Great cover!

4 out of 5 stars: Great Book

Well not to sound too corny but The Keeper is definitely a keeper. I completely surprised myself by reading this book. I thought that I would give it a go but probably not like it seeing as I didn’t really read YA novels. But boy was I wrong. I spent a whole day reading the book as I could not put it down and wanted to know what fate had in store for the characters. Well fate as I put it adds up to supernatural powers interfering with the lives and minds of the protagonist and those close to her.

Billie is a seemingly normal, popular teenage girl dealing with all the angst that teenage angst and hormones bring. She unknowingly receives a mystical ‘gift’ during a field trip and she begins to embark on a dangerous, thrilling, exciting journey to fulfil her destiny. So not only does Billie have to worry over appearance, straight hair, good grades, boyfriends and best friends but has to also worry about prophetic nightmares, supernatural visions and evil beings tracking her. So yeah, she leads a very confusing life. Her sixteenth birthday completely changes her life; a strange old necklace is gifted to her and an old ‘acquaintance’ appears in her life and a strong, familiar bond is created leading to a life that she never knew existed.

‘The Keeper’ is full of twists and turns, surprises at every corner both heartbreaking and heart warming and the relationships between the characters are so real, so emotional that you are completely invested in their outcomes, in their lives.

This book will surely be a firm favourite with those who love similar YA novels. But I believe that I enjoyed it so much as the characters are so easy to empathise with (despite all the supernatural, mystical stuff). Billie (despite her destiny) is a normal, popular school girl who worries about her hair and make-up, fights with her brother for the bathroom, gets detention and falls in love. I’m sure every girl can empathise with that. No truly, this book has a little bit of everything; fun, romance, fantasy, supernatural elements and most of all it has a good story! So the moral of the story is don’t always judge a book by its cover (or blurb), take a chance and you might end up liking something that is completely different to what you usually enjoy.

An enjoyable, fun, thrilling book!

This book was given to me for an honest review

5 stars

This book has to be one of the best YA books I have read this year. It had me from the beginning and it never stopped. It had so much depth in it that it took my breath away at times. I was all over the place with emotions and thats hard to come by when you read YA. I am not going to give you any major details of this book, but know that each character is so valuable to this story that you don't know how to deal with some of the things that happen. Billie is the mean girl in school, but when her sixteenth birthday comes, things begin to happen. You see so many changes in Billie throughout the book that you feel that it is an actual teen trying to find her place in the world. The author makes Billie this girl that has so much going on that you see and feel everything that is going on with her. Tyler is an unique character and after Billie breaks up with boyfriend he starts to pop into the picture. He has a different perspective in the book and it makes the book so much better in the long run. There is so much to tell you but I can't ruin it for you. The characters in this book were absolutely perfect in this book. Each had a part to play in the book and they played it perfectly. This is a paranormal book and so if you are not that kind of thing, this may not be the book for you, but I promise you you are missing out on something great. It has so much action and drama going on and twists and turns that you would not expect in a YA book, that you don't know what to expect to happen in the next chapter. They last few chapters killed me at the end because I never seen what was coming, and I was upset, but realized why the author had done it. The author has done something magical in this book and what is nice is there is going to be more.

This was an incredible start to this series. There is not one thing I disliked about this book. I am very happy to see that the next book is already out. The organizer. There is going to be another one also, and I think that will be remarkable also. I can't wait to get my hands on the next in this series. Its nice to be able to find an author that can tell a story and make you believe in things that you think might not be true. It is an artist that can do that, and this author has done it.

The Keeper was a very unique story and contained elements that I haven't come across in any other book before.

The main character, Billie, has a recurring nightmare every year on the night before her birthday. When she turns 16 and is given an antique necklace passed through her family for generations, a whole series of strange events start occurring and Billie has to learn to face a destiny she never knew she had.

At first I didn't really warm to Billie as a character as she seemed to be a typical snobby teenager who thinks too highly of herself and only cares about materialistic things.

As the story develops though, Billie definitely matures as a person while learning to embrace her destiny and accept the help of those around her and because of this she becomes a much more likeable character by the end.

The majority of the supporting characters are also very likeable and I enjoyed the fact that this was a paranormal book but the characters were all still fairly 'normal' people.

I did find that the plot moved quite fast and at times I found myself a little confused as to what had just happened because I didn't feel certain events were explained in enough detail. By the end of the book a lot of my questions were finally answered, but I still found myself a bit bewildered as to what role certain characters, mainly the bad guys, played in the whole scenario and why the conflict between everybody existed in the first place. Had the author taken just a little more time in developing the background of the story I think it would have come together a lot easier for the reader. Hopefully there will be a sequel which will clear up a lot of unanswered questions!

Overall, The Keeper was a very intriguing read with a unique and complex plot that definitely keeps you turning the pages to see what happens next. The ending is something you definitely would not predict but is still satisfying in how it plays out.

I would recommend this book to anyone who loves a young adult romance novel with an added twist of the paranormal thrown in to make it that extra bit interesting.

I will say right off that I really liked this book: the premise, the new idea for paranormal, and the character actually maturing and becoming less self-absorbed and smug about her life, as she started to learn and utilize her new powers. This is an author in the YA market to watch – I do think a younger reader will instantly accept and relate to the pieces that felt more unreasonable to me as one old enough to have YA readers in their house.

The only real piece that I got tired of was with one character’s accent: while it did help to reinforce his tough guy persona, allowing him to step into a protective role midway into the book, I had to keep reminding myself that his speech pattern was different and as much a part of him as curly hair and a straightener was to Billie.

What Natalie Star has done with great effect, is create a new form of a paranormal gift that unfolds and defines itself as Billie is growing and coming to accept its warnings. Even the one sent to integrate her into her new existence isn’t entirely sure of what she can do, or where this gift will lead. Such a grand deviation from the “woke up as a werewolf” where you already are aware of what the character’s skills and powers are. This leads to a delicious sense of discovery and increases the tension as nearly everything could be beneficial or harmful to Billie, and she doesn’t have a way of determining those until her necklace signals a warning. We all learn together, and the story is paced to allow those quick bursts of realization that are just as surprising to the characters as they are to the reader.

A terrific start for this fledgling author, I can’t wait to see more of what she produces. I received a copy of this book from BTS Virtual Book Tour for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review, and all conclusions are my own responsibility.

This book is worlds apart from any other YA book I have read in recent years there is no tell tale signs of what you would except from a book in this genre there are no vampires, no werewolves and no zombies!. It is a stand out book full to the brim of shocking twists and turns and heartbreak around every corner making me as a reader never wanting to put the book down. Billie is not you typical story book heroine when we first meet her she already has the popular life most girls dream of. But as the book goes on we learn that deep down she is just like any other normal girl but with a gift. Billie almost has to through away the life she once led to a pre determined destiny bound to her by her necklace.

This book was thrilling, shocking, funny and heartbreakingly sad all at the same time it made me scream at the pages from beginning to the very end because once you start to read the book you instanly fall in love and invest in all the characters. Willing some to be together and wanting others to simply just disappear.I find that if I can set song from our reality into a book it it means that I can fully emerge myself into the story which in my opinion makes it an amazing book. So do I find a song...........Yes I did the lyrics fit perfectly Quitedrive ~ Time After Time My picture fades And darkness Has turned to grey
Watching Through windows You’re wondering If I’m okay. If you’re lost You can look And you will find me Time after time If you fall I will catch you I’ll be waiting Time after time The love and loss leads this book to what it is an amazing read. Billie has to do both to full fill her destiny whether she likes it or not. Giving up love to find it again.

(I do not own the song)

Well I finally finished this one and I must say I really really enjoyed it! Natalie Star did an awesome job keeping us turning pages because there was basically a new twist almost every chapter! In The Keeper our main character Billie wakes up on her 16th birthday with the same nightmare she has on the same day every year. But what she doesn't know is that every things about to change. That morning her mother gives her a special necklace and she sort of doesn't like it at first but little did she know it's probably the thing that will safe her life!

Like I said I really enjoyed this book but there were some things that sort of annoyed me. For instance the book starts on her 16th birthday and ends on like her third year in college. Weird right? I don't think the time needed to be stretched out that far but I'm glad the author didn't put boring stuff in the gaps she kept me very Well entertained.

One of the other things that was hard was the nasty love triangle! Usually I can handle them but this one was extra hard because her lovers were in the same body. Hold on! let me explain her protector Tyler was using someone else's body and he can come and go as he pleases. So while he was in Tyler's body he fell for her but then when he left she fell for the person he left behind who is also tyler. I know hard to understand it was crazy at first for me too. But the ending turned out good and I'm glad.

I sort of wish I knew more background about what exactly Billie was like she has these powers and she's called "The Keeper" but what is she the keeper of? Hopefully we'll find out more if theres a second book but I'm not sure if there will be one because the ending was more of a standalone ending!

This is a great young adult paranormal book. There is romance, tenn hormones, good, evil, and twists in this story.

This is Billie's story. At first you think that she is the "mean girl". But once we really get to know the real Billie, she is sweet, strong, and good.

On her sixteenth birthday, her life gets a little crazy. Okay, not a little crazy, but full on straight jacket crazy! And it all starts with getting a necklace with a gem on it from her mom. her mom says that it's been passed down to the oldest daughter for a very long time, in their family. Putting it on causes her to pass out. and this is the second thing that happened to her that morning.

The first thing that happened, was her re-occuring nightmare. She gets the exact same nightmare every year on her birthday. From there her day, and life, just gets more strange.
a
She learns about her gifts, yes more than one, all from Tyler. Tyler also tells her that he is her watchman.

On top of the gifts, watchmen, Pal, fighting evil, she also has her hormones to deal with. She is dating Tony at the start but then there is Tyler and Ty. Oh and can't forget about Ramey and Adrik. Don't worry, she isn't sleeping around.

Billie is so strong by accepting her destiny. This isn't an easy journey for her though. She does make sacrifices and so do her loved ones.

"I can't believe my destiny is ruining so much."

If you want a unique and original, good versus evil, young adult book...READ THIS!

I was left wanting more and for the story to continue.

I just finished The Keeper and let me tell you....what a great book! I loved the storyline and the characters. My most favorite thing about reviewing mostly indie or self-pub authors is finding stories with new, exciting storylines that haven't been approached before. The Keeper fits right in to that group.

This is the story of a teenage girl coming into her powers as The Keeper. She awakens on her sixteenth birthday, not to the normal fun things a girl her age would, but to a nightmare that only gets worse with each birthday. As if that's not enough, when her mother gifts her with a necklace that has been passed down for generations on the sixteenth birthday, poor Billie, yes it can be a girls name, passes out! What a way to start your birthday. It only goes downhill from there. Freak Boy won't stop staring at her, her necklace keeps getting hot and cold and she doesn't know what is going on. Luckily for Billie the classmate she once referred to as Freak Boy is her Watchman and is here to ease her into what she will become.

The story quickly turns into a love triangle, relationships ending and beginning, tough choices for Billie, a couple close brushes with death, and throw in a lot of fights with the evil team and the rough learning experiences of coming into your powers. There is more than enough to keep you on your toes and turning the pages. A non-stop thrill ride and an epic love story, this book has the makings of a true 5 star book!

I received a complementary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

In the book The Keeper, we are brought into the life of Billie, a normal teenager who just so happens to have nightmares every year on the night before her birthday. The nightmare is always the same, but it's just a dream, right? As Billie finishes the school year after she turns 16, strange things start happening around her. She's inexplicably drawn to Tyler, even though she's in a relationship with Tony. Her best friends become more distant and her relationship with her older brother becomes closer. As she struggles to figure out what is going on, she learns that she is known as a Keeper. She is on the side of good, so evil begins stalking her with an intent to kill her.
I enjoyed reading this book very much. Billie and her problems with the new life she is coming to grips with were always interesting, sometimes funny, sometimes sad, mostly dangerous, and often tender. The book is well written and full of action, whether it's Billie learning to use her new powers, strengthening the relationship with her brother, or falling in love. There are places where she is hurt and confused by the distance her two best friends are putting between them. This book made me laugh, it made me nostalgic, and it made me choke up in places. This is a YA Fantasy that really checks all the boxes as far as I'm concerned. I recommend this for middle to older teens due to some language, violence, and adult situations.

This was my first introduction into YA books. I'd never taken an interest in them before. To say the least I started the book with apprehension. Here I am over thirty and I'm reading a YA book?! The fact that it was paranormal, which is one of my favorite genres, didn't seem enough.

I started this book late at night figuring I'd get at least a hint of what I'd set myself up for in a few chapters before bed. I'm almost sure my family told me they were going to bed, but I was lost to reality. I was no longer Misty, mother of three, and house wife. I was transported to the writer's world - the words the gateway in.

I awoke as Billie, a girl who fights against her boyish name by being extremely female. It's my sixteenth birthday and my entire world is about to change forever. My life purpose has me wanting to run from it all, but it's up to me to be The Keeper.

This book kept my attention long into the wee hours of the morning. I cried, I laughed, and I loved as Billie. If you have not purchased this book I highly recommend it. Just be warned to save a lot of time to read it, you won't want to put it down. I now wait eagerly for the follow up book.

I loved the storyline and the characters. It’s refreshing to see something different done with paranormal romance besides the normal ghosts, Vampire and Angels ect. It has to be one of my favorite books. You really get a feel for what Billie Is going though. She awakes on her sixteenth Birthday from a nightmare and she is also coming into her powers as The Keeper. If that's not enough, her mother gives her a necklace that has been handed down in their family for generations on their sixteenth birthday. When her mother puts it around her neck she passes out.
At school she starts to talk to and old childhood friend and he tells her all sorts of things she has a little bit of a hard time coming to terms with it but takes it in stride. They both try and work together so she can try and control her Power and from there things quickly turn into a love triangle, relationships end and new ones begin. Billie has a lot of hard choices to make for herself and all the while evil is trying to kill her everywhere she turns.

The Keeper was a most enjoyable read! From the first page to the last, I was held captive by this story. The characters are very believable and you cannot help but get caught up in their lives. Especially the life of Billie, the girl that hope for the entire world rests upon. It is also an emotional story that will have you sitting on the edge of your seat. And, you might even shed a few tears. I did! The story is full of fantasy, mystery, intrigue, and even romance, so it offers something for everyone, not just YA readers. The fact is that I rarely read this genre, but I am so glad that I did this time, because this was one of those books that I did not want to put down . If you are looking for a new book to read that is different from anything else on the market right now, then you should read this book. There are no vampires or witches in this story which seems to be what everyone else is writing about these days.

After reading so many books, there comes a book which satisfies your reading craving to a much higher levels then any other book. The keeper by natalie star is such a book which made me glad that I chose this book. Billie, a sixteen year old is in for a surprise on her sixteenth birthday as she is about to gain many powers. She is chosen for a higher cause than the rest of the human population and she is being helped by her protector with whom she falls in love with. The story takes you on for a literary ride in the supernatural world and romance triangles and so much more. I enjoyed the book a lot and went ahead and bought and read the next book in series also. I wholeheartedly recommend this book to all the book lovers. I received an ARC of this book from netgalley in exchange for my honest and unbiased review

The Keeper is a very enriching fresh story. It is very well written. If your wanting a different type of paranormal YA story this is it.

The characters each have a very unique personality. Billie the main characters really comes a long way as the book progresses. She goes through many things as she learns what it means to become a keeper. Her skills grow with the help of a few people some she even grows to love even knowing they can't be together. She seems to try to protect her friends even if that means losing her friendship.

The paranormal twist are simply amazing with some fantastic fight scenes. I loved reading about all the powers Billie gets and how she learns to use them. You will be drawn into this story and want more.
