Pray for Me: The Power in Praying for Others

Rate this book
Pray for me, someone says to you. How seriously do you take such a request? Ken Carter, a pastor for nearly 30 years, says that he has learned to honor the request Pray for me as a cry for help. It is an acknowledgment that we are limited and finite creatures. It is a trust placed in a higher power, he comments. It is always prompted by a situation that would not be desired, yet it is always an occasion for the grace of God. Carter compares a person in need whether it s because of illness, grief, a broken relationship, a job loss, or a spiritual crisis to someone holding a bucket that is full. The bucket is filled with emotion, grief, confusion, and disappointment. An intercessor comes alongside the person in need, holding an empty bucket. The person in need pours out his or her concerns into the intercessor s empty bucket. The intercessor then receives that person s agenda as a calling from God to pray for him or her.

I put off reading this book! Mainly because the beginning chapter was scripture I have read over and over. But, the Holy Spirit said, come on, journey forth and read. So, I did. This book is very powerful, very well-written, and inspiring. I am going to try the two models for intercessory prayer suggestions at the back of the book. I read the entire book in two hours. I just could not stop! Great book for church groups, book discussions, or just individuals. The Reflection pieces at the end of each section are good. Worth every penny I paid for the book. Keeping on my bookshelf for future for sure!Pray for Me: The Power in Praying for Others

We have all told someone we would pray for them, but do we really take the time to put their need before the Lord during our prayer time? Do you take the time to feel for the person and put yourself in their shoes? Taking time is a real message I took away from reading this book.

We all seem to be in a hurry to get onto the next issue or project in our life. I like how the other put sections in the book called invitations to reflect. These sections gave you time to think about the different issues the author was discussing and find ways to apply them to your own prayers.

I liked how he used the example of a bucket. He showed how a persons bucket is filled with problems and then you come beside him with your empty one and take some of his load. That really is what praying for another person is all about. Easing their burden. Overall it was a beneficial book to read and had many tips for making your prayer life more productive. I gave this book 4/5 stars because although I learned from the book it did contain parts that seemed redundant.

I would like to thank NetGalley and the publisher for the copy of this book I enjoyed reading. I gave an honest review based on my opinion of what I read.
