Full length novel (approx. 100,000 words)
I admit, I thought this was going to be a typical good angel vs. bad angel story, but it’s so much more than that! Hamilton weaves a beautiful paranormal romance driven by deep, multi-layered, flawed characters that are so much more human than their powerful inhuman personalities can believe.
The author pens beautiful active descriptions that play like movie scenes in the mind. She leaves out no details, and has some damn hot sex scenes laced with heavy emotions. Her take on heaven and hell are a fine balance of scripture and her own vibrant imagination. There is nothing preachy or pushy about this series, but you may find yourself wishing angels were real after you’re finish reading!
These are two books that make you laugh out loud and cry tears. I indeed did cry at the end of Heavenly Lover. You can’t help but fall in love with Clare and cheer for her as she gives her whole heart to Daniel, yet struggles as her loyalty remains with the Guardian angels in heaven.
I admit I was skeptical of Underworld lover because I didn’t think I’d like Josh or Audry since they were the villains in the first book, but after only the first chapter I was deeply taken by Josh’s alpha personality and deep underlying compassion. Even the heart-breaking Audry had me wrapped around her seductive fingertip, cheering her ascendance to power.
It’s a five-star cast coupled with five-star writing. What more can I say, except that I can’t wait for the third book?
Disclaimer: Sharon and I are in the same Critique Group where I watched HEAVENLY LOVER mature.
Sharon Hamilton exerts a canny understanding of love in its many manifestations. She catches parent/child love in Claire's relationship to her heavenly parents, shows us companion love in friendships and female/male love in her bond with artist Daniel who despairs of life and love. Creating an other-world can be difficult for a writer to convey; this is never a problem for Hamilton as she paints pictures of an ethereal heaven in gossamer gold and Angel Dust. The reader is quickly transported to this realm only to return to earth and its conflicts. Claire's mission is to protect and save Daniel in the face of his great depression: save him from committing suicide and save him from his best friend, Josh, a Dark Angel who seeks to turn Daniel. Erotic sexuality is tenderly and passionately described, offering a tingle of delight to readers.
In careful attention to word choice, Hamilton portrays the emotions of her characters powerfully. Her language flows smoothly and with great detail. We see and feel as they do and become caught up in the story development. Good writing has the reader pause; great writing has the reader engrossed and staying up to all hours in solid identification with the characters. I find Sharon Hamilton's writing to fit the latter category
This book has many flaws, but it's still a lot better than other angel/human romance books I've read. Sure, their relationship is very sexual (and some other characters are very seductive). but they are literally soulmates and there's some very sweet emotional moments that show they really care about each other. they get to know each other in his dreams!! the 2 main characters have some depth to them and are likable. All the information about heaven, the Father, and good and bad angels is kinda interesting. I like how there's a lot of build up to their relationship, it's not too fast or too slow. Though it is pretty much insta-lust/love (but it's because they were meant to be!). Daniel is a really hot, passionate artist. But also very sweet and gentle with her. The second half of the book gets a little off track and focused on some side characters I did not care about. I wish that time could have been used for Daniel and Claire spending more time together in the real world and doing cute couple stuff. the ending was so predictable and rushed, but there were some really sweet moments that made it better.

I'm a huge fan of Sharon Hamilton's SEAL books, so I knew I would love this series as well. I mean, angles are kind of awesome. A few are even a pain in the butt!
The story of Claire, a sweet, kind hearted angel of the heavens who is sent down to help save a charge, Daniel. Daniel is a broken hearted, artist that is at the end of his ropes. He's ready to end it all... but Claire is having none of that. What she, nor Daniel know is that someone close to him is not what they seem. A darkness surrounds Daniel, eating away at him slowly. A darkness that wants his soul.
The story unfolds around them both. The good vs the bad. Light vs dark. It's like with life. You have the good days, the bad days and the days where you just want to wrap yourself up in a cocoon and pretend nothing exists. As the struggle increases, the darkness strikes out again, this time making himself known to Claire. It was face off time. One man, or woman would win the battle over Daniel's soul. Trick is... its a dicey game. One wrong move and it could all be over. One thing you learn, Angel's are competitive but not in the way we see things. It's all about the other person for the heavenly angels, and all about themselves for the dark angels.
When the end comes, there is only one choice to be made.. and its one that will reset things as they should be, and allow two souls who are both good, angelic and meant to be, thrive. Together anything is possible, and with an angel at your side, no mountain is too high.

Claire is a guardian angel. Her newest charge is Daniel, an artist, who has decided to take his life after a breakup with his girlfriend. She has a perfect success record for saving her charges but so does the dark angel who is after Daniel's soul. They become aware of each other immediately and so begins the battle of good vs evil. While protecting and guiding Daniel back into a happy healthy life, she quickly falls in love with him as he does with her, the angel in his dreams. Will their love win out or will darkness prevail.
Review: This was really a good book with the element of good vs evil without being overwhelmed by it. It made me wonder how Claire will handle her growing feelings for Daniel (both emotionally and sexually) and balance them with the rules that apply to her being a guardian angel and knowing that the dark angel isn't bound by the same rules. It was great to read how creative Daniel gets when trying to seduce Claire into making love with him. There is sexual tension and some good sexy scenes in here too. A really good read. Pick up a copy and start reading

I am not usually into the Angel type genre, but this one is blowing my mind and I am loving it!!!!
Extremely well written and lots of detail. Miss Hamilton draws you right into the story and keeps you there waiting for more.
Claire is a Guardian Angel that has been sent to save the life and soul of Daniel, an artist, who has decided to take his own life due to the loss of the love of his girlfriend. While Claire is trying to protect and guide Daniel back to the happy life he once had, her feelings for Daniel grow into something Angels are not supposed to have. Will her love for Daniel help him out of his darkness or will she be drawn into the darkness with him?
Used to Hamilton's military romance novels this was different for me. The details about everything Claire sees, smells and touches was too much. I can appreciate the secondary characters as they are primary in the following books but the story was drawn out. If you love details and the romantic idea of being in love with an Angel you would definitely enjoy this. I will continue to read the next stories as I must find out about Josh and Audrey, our dark angels.
I was given this book and immediately thought, nope not going to read it. I did read it and found it interesting. It is not my usual reading material but I found the idea of a Guardian Angel falling in love with her charge fun. Of course, there is the scary part of the dark angel, but all in all, it was a fun read. And a bonus because I live near Sonoma County.
Easy to read with lots of steamy sex scenes. I didn't completely understand the instant emotional connection between them considering they didn't really get to know each other. It feels mostly like a lust connection.
First book in a new series, and a new author for me to read.
Claire isn’t your usual angel, as a guardian, she’s suppose to be serious and focused. I’d say Claire was more feisty, opinionated and fun loving than that. Her role is to guide and keep “humans” on the correct path. She’s never failed..... But if the higher powers have their way, it’s going to be Claire’s last job, she’s being reassigned to teaching other angels to be guardians, and she’s not happy about that, not in the least!!
Daniel is an artist, a beautiful soul, destined to do great things. He’s had enough of life, he tries to commit suicide after losing the love of his life. He never expected to become a pawn in the never ending battle between good and evil.
She’s suppose to remain unseen. But all that changes when she sees Daniel trying time end his life. She’s only suppose to guide him in his dreams, but there is something not quite right about this job!!
Josh dark angel (bad guy) his role is to turn his charges to the dark side, he’s never lost one to the light. Losing Daniel is not an option, but watching the angel with Daniel gives josh an idea..... Josh now has a new goal, to turn Claire. He uses the new love that is growing between Daniel and Claire. He whispers, he plots.
Fighting their feelings for one another proves challenging for both Claire and Daniel. It doesn’t help when Josh offers Claire a way for them to be together. To good to be true? With a fallen angel, I’d say it’s more than likely!
Loved the premise of this one, and as it’s a series, I’m hoping we get more of Josh. Beautifully written, characters are well thought out. The twist and turns in this book had me gripped right up until the end. Scenes set in both heaven/underworld and earth put you there. The angst, the anger and passion are expressed with great care. The fight between light and dark is ongoing, the battle for Daniels soul is the prize. Claire as an angel is suppose to be focused, we see that side of her, we also get to witness her transformation, the love she fights for Daniel. Daniel is complex, he’s an artist, so you expect them to be a tormented soul, you don’t expect them to try to commit suicide. His love for painting was overtaken by his love for Audray, all consuming, his passion for her was vibrant and exciting. He never thought he’d find her in the arms of another! He’s never going to paint again! I felt his pain, his anger and then his sorrow at losing her. Life wasn’t worth living. Then his love for Claire slowly growing, it’s not the same as his love for Claire, but to me the loves between Audray and Claire is totally opposite, the slow burn will last longer than the flash fire Audray and Daniel had.
I couldn’t put this book down, and I’m looking forward to the next one. Highly recommend this one.
Claire has been assigned the task of keeping Daniel alive. She has never failed to save a soul and she doesn't plan on changing that now, although her mother is planning on retiring Claire from Guardian status at the end of this mission. Claire is determined to remain in her current position, feeling her talents would be wasted on teaching. When she first sees Daniel, however, she cannot completely control her thoughts and feelings. Can she keep her emotions separate from her mission? Daniel has been led to his current suicidal mood by his former lover and his agent. When he finds Audrey in his own bed with another lover and loses his spot in the gallery almost simultaneously, he drinks himself into oblivion.
If you're looking for a tale of forbidden love and redemption, this is the book for you!
*I received this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
Audiobook Review: When I chose this book, I mistakenly went by its title, imagining it to be a lighter paranormal romance. But the cover should have been a clue that this is actually a very dark romance, even though a guardian angel is the heroine. I was somewhat taken aback by the violence and crude language. I know crude language has infiltrated just about every genre of fiction and category of nonfiction, but I am not a fan. Again, because of the angelic aspect of this book, I would have hoped for better. This book certainly has its scary moments, and a feeling of danger is omnipresent throughout. If you don't mind a story filled with crude language about a guardian angel who dances with the dark side, you may appreciate this story more than I did.
NOTE: I've posted this audiobook review here as the cover for this ebook is the same as the cover I saw at the book review site I got the promo code from.
This book deals with the battle of good vs evil , We meet Claire who is a guardian angel. Her newest charge is Daniel, an artist, who after a break up with his girlfriend has decided to take his life. Now even though Claire record for saving her charges is perfect so is the dark angel who is also fighting for Daniel. While protecting and guiding Daniel she quickly falls in love with him as he does with her, the angel from his dreams. Will their love win out or will darkness prevail.
There is sexual tension and some good sexy scenes in here too.
I’m never sure if I’m going to like paranormal books, but Sharon Hamilton hit it out of the park. Heavenly lover is a steamy story with twists and turns that you will not be able put down. This book is full of emotions emotions. The happily ever after will leave a smile on your face. I can’t wait to read the rest of these books. The audible book is very well done. The change of voices for different characters entertained me thoroughly.
Heavenly Lover written by Sharon Hamilton, book 1 of the Guardian Angel Paranormal super bundle. Clair is Daniela guardian angel and is sent to rescue him from himself but she goes a little bit farther than was necessary and fell for him. Will she be able to watch over him while wanting to be with him. What will Father do about her feelings? It’s a sweet and spooky paranormal book full of all the sexy bits we love!
It was a good read during this quarantine time. Not too suspenseful and lots of love. I would recommend this book to all my friends. I found it delightful that the angel read these kind of books.
Ops. Wrote everything above. Really good book. Description is very good. I could actually picture it all as I read her stories.
This was a audible book that I have truly enjoyed, making me laugh so much and wanting to cry also, Claire and Daniel truly belong together here on earth and in the heavens, I have had a great time listening to this especially at work when coworkers don't know why I'm laughing, thank you So. Hamil for the experience, Dana
I have to say I was excited to read this book and lets just say it didn't disappoint me at all and I found myself falling in love with this book and Claire and Daniel. wowsa I loved how they put a spin on Angels and Dark Angels and at the end i was absolutely ugly crying. can't wait for the next book.
Oh this is different and good. An angel sent to save a human but she falls for him also. A romantic read with wonderfully fantastical elements. I'm hooked.
Heavenly Lover is the story of Daniel, an artist who has lost everything, including his way and Claire, the guardian angel sent to save him from himself. You know those times when the idea looks good on paper, that everything should just be oh so perfect, yet it isn't? Yeah, that. I had high hopes for this one and while I can't say it's a bad read, in my opinion it could have been a whole lot better. The foundation is there but there were certain things that drove me crazy.
Daniel is a gorgeous man but when I came to a description of his hair, it brought me up short. "...dark curly hair cascading over his forehead and down to his shoulders to end behind his ears" Wait. What? I had to read that a couple of times, how does it go down to his shoulders to end behind his ears? Where are his ears exactly? And even worse, my first thought went to "mullet". Is he sporting a Billy Ray? Is that what you're telling me?!?! Sigh...okay, moving on.
I loved the idea of the angels, under Father's guidance, the training etc. It was intriguing and I couldn't wait to find out more. Until I read how the angels make their way to Earth. How does one hail a taxi at the pearly gates exactly? I developed a love/hate relationship with our heroine. On one hand she was strong, yet loving and exactly what Daniel was missing in his life. Two seconds later I found myself wanting to take those dreadful yellow Crocs off of her feet and smack her over the head with them. I guess there is a fine line between a character being "innocent" and "immature".
The supporting cast brought some perks, especially Daniel's agent and friend, Josh. He brought a darker element to the story and added more intrigue and interest than both leads combined. That's not to trash Daniel, he was delish, even with that poor achy breaky heart... even his crazy ex brought a little "umph". There were many times that I felt I was rooting for the wrong characters to prevail.
The steam factor is solid for both the romance lovers and the smutters! Though again, while some scenes were so sensual and beautifully written, all it takes is the wrong turn of a phrase and it just kills it for me. Granted, in the Romance genre, the various names given to both male and female genitalia seems endless. That being said, I'm adding "peach" and "cave" to my DO NOT CALL LIST! Just...no.
If you're thinking to yourself, "WTF is wrong with her today? This review is all over the place!", yeah well, now you know how I felt while making my way through this book. I went from mumbling "Gahhh! Just kill them both already" to crying my eyes out over a letter written by Daniel to his angel. Will I continue this series? I'm about as back and forth on that as this review.
I have read/listened to this book twice. I enjoyed it even more the second time around. I’m really a “SEAL baby” and although I enjoy the occasional paranormal here and there it’s not what I usually go for. I wasn’t surprised that I enjoyed Sharon’s paranormal rendition of the heavenly kind because I expected this book to be no less than her SEAL Brotherhood Series. Sharon didn’t disappoint! I enjoyed it so much… my heart aching for Claire all the way to the unexpected end! I loved the final twist that puts everything in its place as it should be.
I think that the hierarchy of the characters was very cleverly thought out and the way in which the two worlds interact was expertly played out so that you could actually think it a possibility! You’re given amazing visions of the heavenly world and its day to day business so to speak, then you’re thrown into the underworld and it putrid inhabitants and their daily goals. Caught in the middle is Daniel, wonderful, sexy, sensitive, Daniel. As always I never give spoilers and this is no different, just going to add that although different it was just as enjoyable as Sharon’s other books that we have all come to know and love.
Sharon doesn’t just deliver a wonderful hero and heroine, she always gives us really interesting secondary characters you just want to know more about. Once again her ability to make you lose yourself in a world so different to your own is unsurpassable. You will get lost in it, you will enjoy it and you will love the characters, it’s inevitable!
If you are lucky to also have the audio version, again you won’t be disappointed because J. D. Hart is a wonderful story teller. He does “pain” so well that you will feel it! I see it as a “Radio”. Sharon creates the intricate circuits and places the chips and wires in the right place not forgetting a single piece of the hardware and then JD is the electricity that flows through each and every one of those cleverly situated circuits. AND BAM! You have a song, a play, a dramatized story of love and pain, of fear and hopelessness. Together they are MAGIC!
Heavenly Lover was my first Sharon Hamilton book I read and I must say this was a great love story of heaven & earth.. heart & soul... good & evil!! I loved your view about our faith to our Father! The love He have to mankind!! You are the only Author who put Him in writing and I praised you for that! And "The Letter" OMG!! you made me cry in that letter... I was sobbing... I couldn't stop crying even I finished reading the letter... My eyes was puffy and aching when I finished reading your book. You are great and I know this is just the beginning... I'll have you next to my list as my new favourite Author!! :)
