Jack Harkness is in need of a holiday. He wants to get away from Torchwood, away from the human race – and where better to get completely away from it all than Cotter Paluni’s World, a planet surrounded by deadly scarlet lightning and cut off from the entire universe?

But there are some shocks in store for Jack: the ‘Devil’s World’ might be completely isolated and inaccessi

Lidser has written an excellent Captain Jack Harkness, a bit more serious then usually but still lively and cheeky.

I was pleasantly surprised by how the author dealt with religion, guilt and grieve.

Telfer is very good narrator, sadly he hasn't read any other Torchwood book.

One of the better Torchwood novels, though also one of the shorter ones.
Everything is true to character, and Jack is at his "Hi, there. Captain Jack Harkness"-best.
The reader does a good job.

Jack has run from Earth, run from the pain of recent losses, and is headed away from it all to relax and get his head together. He picks a planet with impenetrable red rain clouds because no one else goes there so he figures he can teleport in and be left alone.

Instead, he finds a planet of super-isolated,

Very enjoyable as always. The thing I love about torchwood books is that they are so atmospheric. They inject just the right amount of darkness, mystery and suspense to make them into a fun quick read. They are not kids books so don't think they are in the same boat as doctor who. They simply share the same universe. The touchwood world has so much history that it make them so satisfying for a long time reader. The only negatives to this story is that gay themes do spoil it a bit. The "how I cam ...more

We've got grey humanoid aliens in great health. A society where eating healthy is divine, no alchohol or drugs, and talk of Jack Harkness(played by John Barrowman)possibly being an Angel. Unfortunately, while Jack was telling the closeted cop that being gay was not a sin, and he wasn't an abomination, ending the story with Jack possibly being a representation of Jesus; Jack falters in maintaining balance. Joseph Lidster ends up promoting drinking, via Jack, while onscreen, Jack has always been a ...more

Spoooooooky! Listeners can get ready for descriptions of handsome Captain Jack via other character's eyes, plenty of reminders of old Torchwood, some running, frankly no sex, a coming out of grey ...human?, and more of Torchwood.
I enjoyed the story very much, but at some points I found it difficult to understand the narrator so I had to rewind few times. Also, and I fully understand that there are limited ways how to deliver something probably written in caps lock, I didn't appreciate the shouti

Sometimes, Jack on his own can be a lot of fun. I didn't really get that from this one. Sure he has his serious side but I felt that a lot of his personality was missing here. He's usually so much larger than life but we never really got to experience that here. The plot wasn't terrible but it could have used some work and a bit more mystery. This was essentially a series of useless flashbacks and a walk across town and down to the basement.

Good story taking Captain Jack out of his usual element. Ending was a bit rushed but they manage to do a lot with the short running time.

The story explored wonderful themes of madness, depression and religion. Great story and really really well read.

Was lots of fun. Full of bittersweet Jack tears. Would have been AMAZING if it had been read by John Barrowman.
