Shayla Black is the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of more than 100 contemporary, erotic, paranormal, and historical romances. Her books have sold millions of copies and been published in a dozen languages.
As an only child, Shayla occupied herself by daydreaming, much to the chagrin of her teachers. In college, she found her love for reading and started pursuing a publishing career. Though she graduated with a degree in Marketing/Advertising and embarked on a stint in corporate America, her heart was with her stories and characters, so she left her pantyhose and power suits behind.
Shayla currently lives in North Texas with her wonderfully supportive husband, her daughter, and two spoiled tabbies. In her “free” time, she enjoys reality TV, gaming, and listening to an eclectic blend of music.
I've been trying to find this book for ages. I finally got my hands on the paperback and it's awesome! All of the stories are wonderful and so frickin' hot! I think I totally had an orgasm or at least I'm primed for one! :p
Wicked to Love By Shayla Black read - 8/30/12 - 4 stars
For 3 years Emberlin (such a cool name) has been in love with her boss Brandon. But she knows he has carried a torch for a woman who left him years ago, before he met Emmy. When said woman shows up at the office one afternoon and Brandon rushes out with her, Emmy is crushed. She decides it is time to move on and to do that she needs to get away from Brandon.
Brandon is floored when she hands in her resignation. Emmy is so passionate about their work together, he can't fathom why she would ever leave. He also realizes pretty fast that he needs her in his office, keeping him on track, he would be lost without her. Pretty quickly though, he realizes he may need her in his personal life as well. It doesn't take long before he sees her more than his coworker and he can't believe it took her quitting for him to open his eyes and see what has been right in front of him for the past 3 years.
This was well told I thought. It takes place in one afternoon and the fact that these two know each other so well make it easier to accept Brandon's rapidly growing feelings for her. I actually found it endearing. He seemed excited at the thought of being more with Emmy. Excited to have finally opened his eyes to see her in a new light. The story flip flopped between their points of view, so you could get a little backstory with Emmy. You get to read about her feelings for Brandon for the past years and then you get to experience Brandon's awakening as well. You get to experience him seeing her differently and how it all affects him as dawning realizations hit him. It was a fun read I really enjoyed it.

All Revved Up By Sylvia Day read - 8/30/12 - 4 stars
Miguel has it all. Everything he wanted in life, money, great NYC penthouse and his pick of beautiful women. But the one thing he doesn't have is Faith. Faith was the woman he loved all through high school and planned on spending the rest of his life with her... until she ripped his heart out by callously dumping him before he left for college. Miguel has tried to move on, but for some reason no woman can live up to his memories of his high school sweetheart. He's tired of it and wants to be happy again. So Miguel decides to go home and prove to himself that Faith is not as wonderful as his mind has built her up to be. So he can finally move on and be happy with someone else.
She'd killed the innocence in him that had made it possible to love a woman without any thought of self-preservation.
I loved that quote, it really spoke to me on a personal level. I also loved this story. Because since it was a short story, there was no BSing. When Miguel asked Faith questions about why she left him, she immediately answered truthfully. So their feelings for each other were revealed fast. There was no holding back. I loved that. I also loved that there was spanish endearments mixed in with their english words. I LOVE it when authors do that.
The one tiny thing that kept this from being 5 stars was a scene I felt was missing at the end. But other than that I loved the story. It was so sweet, I might just read it again. Oh yeah, and I also loved that Faith was a mechanic. I thought that was so cool.
FAVORITE QUOTES
"I see you're still possessive."
"Only with you."
Her smile faded slowly. "Don't waste the energy on me."
One brow arched. "Why not?"
"Because when I'm with you, you're the only man I see."
~Faith and Miguel - This is a perfect example of the no BSing in this book. They hadn't seen each other in 10 years and they were both still hurting from the break up that whole time. Instead of letting their pride get in the way by pretending they were fine without each other, they were completely honest about their feelings and let it all hang out. It was refreshing.

Hunt Me By Shiloh Walker read - 9/1/12 - 2 stars
Drew Quentin was in love with Dakota Coulter. But that wasn't enough. She was too secretive and he needed to move on. He was never going to be happy unless she opened up to him, but it had been 2 years and he didn't even have her phone number.
Dakota does have some pretty big secrets. She can't just tell her human boyfriend that she is a vampire. It was against the rules for one and two, he would think she was crazy. So she was going to have to move on, and do her job as a hunter. But her job crosses paths with Drew and soon she is the one being hunted, by the man she loves.
Eh, I just wasn't feeling this book. I can't really get into a love story if one of the characters is dating someone else before they even break it off with the one they are supposedly in love with. That just really rubbed me the wrong way. Nicole's whole presence in the story annoyed me. I didn't like that Drew was kissing her before he broke up with Dakota and I didn't like that Dakota tried to save her later. Why did she do that anyway? Would she turn anyone who was at deaths door or was it because she knew this was Drew's new girlfriend?
Whatever, I just didn't care for this, which is a shame because I loved the story line. Human falls in love with vampire and vampire can't tell human about what they are. I like those stories. But this one fell short for me.
Also, there were a lot of editing issues, for example.
"He's already on almost on this floor."
Small stuff like that started to get annoying, because it would interrupt the flow of reading, because I would have to stop and reread the sentence trying to figure out what was wrong.

Torn Between Two Brothers By Cathryn Fox read - 9/1/12 - 3 stars
Lauren Gray had the almost perfect boyfriend. He was everything she wanted almost. She loved spending time with him and he treated her like a queen. Problem was he was only home on the weekends. As a commercial pilot Adam was always flying during the week. When he was home their weekends were steamy and he liked to show her how much he missed her by taking her hard and fast. She loved it, except sometimes she wanted to slow down and enjoy each other a little more slowly.
One Wednesday Lauren was surprised to find Adam sleeping in his bed. She crawled into bed to surprise him and spent most of the night in the slow passion she had been craving. But in the morning she was the one surprised to find it wasn't Adam, but Adam's brother Garret. This is where she is torn.
Again, I wasn't feeling this one. I liked the characters, but I just don't think a woman would agree to the things she so readily agreed to. Adam is sort of a dominate type and he tells her what to do, and she just does it. I just have a hard time believing she wouldn't question him more.
Princess Maya is furious when she finds out her father has arranged a marriage for her. Because she is not marrying just anybody, she is marrying the one man she ever loved, the man who took her virginity and then left her. Prince Shannon Braxton.
Shannon, has always loved Maya, and when her father contacted him and asked him to marry her before the evil Czar could marry her he jumped at the opportunity. He had always wanted Maya and now was his chance to take her, except Maya was fiery and temperamental and she wanted nothing to do with him.
I really loved this story. It was set in space and they all lived on their own planets. That added a new element to the story that I haven't had in many other stories I have read. I loved the strained relationship between Shannon and Maya. I loved watching them come together when she learned the truth about their past. Also, I loved the danger involved. I'm always up for a good abduction.
Maya was a strong character. I like it when a woman is written as tough and she is believable. There is nothing worse than a "tough" female character verbally sparring and sounding like a third grader. But Maya could hold her own and I loved that about her.
