It was nice to read about a sub who isn't an ectomorph for a change. What's with all the red-haired men in romance the last few years though? It's officially no longer intriguing or different.

Recently Heidi Cullinan made a long blog post about the need for editors in m/m. She used Shattered Glass as her example. I thought her post raised some good points, but I agree with one commenter that it is downright mean to single out a book which was a) self-published b) a first book and c) better liked

This was written as a serial and has pretty much just been put together, including chapter headings. For those not familiar with the Velvet Glove, it is a self-contained BDSM community/club set at some point in the future. Many people have apartments at the Velvet Glove and there are all kinds of services for the residents, most of them BDSM related. As the blurb notes, Connor is there for a friend's party, but he has no experience in BDSM at all, but the club part is pretty tame. However he's s ...more

Where's the conflict? Without it, I found it boring. At least in the current Sean Michael I'm reading "Velvet Need" the sub resisted being that at the start and there was a glitch in their relationship.

When subs instantly do whatever is asked, where's the incentive to turn the page?

Plus there was a smoking gun introduced of Connor dreaming of a lover with a huge dragon tattoo and wow, that's what he got. But why did he dream it?

I gather this started as a serial and it shows.

2015 Re-read:

It’s interesting to revisit this after such a long time – with such different views of the subject matter.
These stories, they have a certain charm. Mostly it’s the writing style that bears resemblance to stream-of-consciousness in some ways, but also the resulting dreamlike quality and relentless emotion. As for what actually happens, well, that may at times go past what I am comfortable with, but I’ve found that I can read all of this as the fantasy it clearly is intended to be. Th

Rating: 7/10

PROS:
- I was reminded of Pretty Woman repeatedly as I read this story, especially when Desmond takes Connor shopping for new clothes. Unlike in Pretty Woman, though, they go immediately to the leather toy shop afterwards. (Snicker…)
- Each of these stories introduces new characters, all of whom are interesting. The best thing about this first story is that many of the secondary characters here appear as main char

Sean Michael has done the impossible. He has made BDSM romantic. In the tradition of all great romances, this story is totally unrealistic. But, then, realism so isn't the point. This is a fantasy, an "oh, I wish" kind of story. Soul mates meet and know each other instantly, fulfilling each other's every expressed and unexpressed desire.

This book is every teenage dream of meeting Mr. Right combined with some major D/S kink, piercings, pain and tattoos all played out to the soundtrack of that ol

I have read most of the re-releases of the Velvet Glove novels and I think this is one of my favourites.
The plot is simple, but each scene is important and gives something to the story, the relationship between Connor and Desmond starts very quickly, but feels believable - you see Connor's struggle and he is allowed to take his time to adjust to the new life.
Certainly worth a re-read and one of the better stories in the series.

I love this series. I'm glad this series is finally becoming available on ebook. I really enjoyed it when it was part of Torquere's serials. It's a great (kinky) escape for me for a few hours.

2-2.5 It all depends on your mood. If you are reading to get hot & bothered, this will do the job nicely. If you are looking for more than that, you may very well be disappointed.

Often referred to as "Space Cowboy" and "Gangsta of Love" while still striving for the moniker of "Maurice," Sean Michael spends his days surfing, smutting, organizing his immense gourd collection and fantasizing about one day retiring on a small secluded island peopled entirely by horseshoe crabs. While collecting vast amounts of vintage gay pulp novels and mood rings, Sean whiles away the hours ...more
