Agent M: Project Mabus

Rate this book
The end has begun! Through the might of science, the third antichrist predicted by Nostradamus has arrived. The frustrations of the Cold War inspired a secret government project to create the ultimate human soldier. One that is stronger, smarter, quicker, and able to sustain the harsh weather conditions of the Soviet Union battlefront. Initial attempts failed miserably. Agent M, a drug that would mutate human physiology was deemed too dangerous for field use. This motivated the architect, Dr. Donald Viseman, to develop a new synthetic embryo that would breed new soldiers in lieu of modifying old ones. He succeeded and Project Mabus was born.

Once the war ended, the project was forcefully terminated with the child presumed terminated. Two decades later, he resurfaced as an enforcer for America’s old nemesis. The most powerful being in existence seeks vengeance against those who wronged him, starting with this great nation.

Meryl Lewis has quit her tenure at the LAPD making her the smart, tough, and impulsive new member of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Her extensive skills and abilities has paired her with the bureau’s top agent and former best friend Michael Madison, the man responsible for taking down the FBI’s Most Wanted Fugitives single-handedly. In his latest assignment, Michael has become the target for assassination. The rising pharmaceutical company under investigation has somehow obtained the lost Agent M formula, modified it, and built their empire upon it. They will utilize all of the resources available to protect themselves from Michael’s legendary notoriety. Even if it means hiring the ultimate solider.

Agent M: Project Mabus is the beginning of this science fiction crime-thriller series counting down to the prophesied end of days. Meryl and Michael reunite in this fast-paced, action oriented thrill ride, tracking down the people trying to kill them and leading into the suspenseful final confrontation with the forgotten child destined to destroy the world.

The moral implications of science versus religion and their constant struggle to dominate the hearts and minds of society will be tested. Readers won’t want to miss the flagship story of The Agent M Series. The countdown to devastation has begun and the end starts here.

Just two words for the book – Simply Amazing. This is not the kind of book I normally read but I am delighted I read this one. I didn’t have very high expectations from this book so it really blew me away.

The story has a great plot, strong characters and is well written. This has got great action and suspense.

Project Mabus was a secret government project to create the ultimate human soldier, at the time of cold war, which was developed by Dr. Donald Viseman. This was terminated after the war and the child presumed to be terminated, now after twenty years, works for a pharmaceutical company run by a retired Russian General who served at the time of the war.

Michael Madison, a FBI agent, who has a legendary reputation, is assigned to investigate the suspicious death of some people. Meryl Lewis, a new FBI agent and Michael’s ex-best friend, becomes his partner on her first day for this investigation. Kurtis, the ultimate soldier, is asked to kill Michael by the pharmaceutical company responsible for those deaths since he is the main obstruction for them to take over the world with the help of Agent M formula which was previously used to create the ultimate soldier.

I loved the way Meryl, with her witty comments, tried to dilute the serious situations and, in spite of the fact that the action in the book was a bit descriptive, was appropriate for the situation. Michael, with his determination and power of endurance, made a great protagonist. Kurtis was full of himself and depended only on his physical power to fight. The General’s power of making plans without loophole fast really amazed me and his cruelness made me detest him. Roman was a sweet character and in the end I really felt bad for him. I loved the description of Meryl and Michael’s friendship and the contrast shown in Michael’s character. I really enjoyed the ultimate fight between Kurtis and Michael.

This book had me hooked from the very first page and I couldn’t put it down till the end. This is for those who enjoy action and mystery. I will surely lookout for future novels by the author.

I thank the author for the opportunity given to me to read this wonderful book.

I received this book for free for a review, I'm not a big Scifi fan and I was wondering what possessed me to sign up for this book so I kept putting off reading it. Not reading it right away was a mistake, trying to lump it in with what I consider Scifi also was a mistake. From the moment you open it you are greeted with the blood-thirsty antagonist. From there, your thrown into one of the wildest rides I've ever experienced. This book was well written, well narrated, and the plot was a nice blend of scifi and crime novel. The author does a very good job of giving you both the intelligence behind the drug company and the M drug, plus the need for action.

My favorite character had to be Meryl. It was great to see such a refreshing take on the female agent role. Most Authors portray female characters as either hard-nosed or bitchy, but Meryl is unique and different you can't help but like her. Michael has his own unique charm too but he's plays dark and mysterious for most of this book. This was such a great read that tickled all of my emotions. Even the ending had me guessing as to what was going to happen next.

After succeeding one of his biggest failures Dr. Donald Viseman has now created the thing he has been wanting the most, a human soldier. One that he created to never be bothered by any weather condition, and will be stronger, smarter, and faster than any other human being. As soon as the child is born a government operative soon comes and kills everyone except Donald. Cause the government doesn't want anyone knowing about the existence of what they call "Project Mabus." When Mavryk who is Project Mabus, tries to escape his boat blows up which makes Donald and Nicole believe that he is dead. Years later FBI Agent Michael and his new partner Meryl are trying to find the people who are responsible for trying to kill him. Because they are the ones who are trying to sell Project M a drug made from the same formula that was used to make Mavryk.

The characters in this book were amazing and I especially liked Meryl we were so much alike personality wise and thats why I was kind of attached to her more. She was really witty that is another thing I liked. Michael seemed like a quiet guy who keeps to himself and it was like he really intimidated his other coworkers. He was a badass, but at the same time he was also really nice cause you could tell that he cared about Meryl more than he led on to believe. I really enjoyed reading about Mavryk the way they described him in the beginning made it sound like he was a superhero. I did enjoy the book it was very scientific in a way which i liked cause i don't really read many SciFi books. I liked that the author described things with so much details that he made it sound so realistic but it wasn't to overwhelming. I know that sometimes authors give so many descriptions about places or people over and over again and then you start getting annoyed with everything that you end up hating the book. Kurtis was one of those villains that you love to hate he filled you with rage, and thats what villains are all about. He sounded so stuck up and he thought he was better than anyone else thats the only thing I didn't like about him. That why he made a good villain. But L.M Vila did the opposite he made everything sound so intriguing and it makes you want to keep reading.

Agent M is a formula to create the perfect soldier. The story follows an assassin and two federal agents during the first day on the job for one of the agents (Meryl).

The story was very interesting and I really enjoyed the back story about how the perfect soldier was originally created. I wish that there would have been more details about that. It was a very short part of the book.

Meryl starts with the FBI and is nervous about seeing her old friend, Michael, from the LAPD for the first time in years. The disappointing part is that we never really get to know either of them. I would have liked to know more about what happened when they worked together for the first time. There seems to be some sort of chemistry that never goes past friendship. There are details about Meryl that are mentioned, but never explained or resolved. Her parents are one good example of this. Apparently the General, who hired assassins to kill Michael, is terrified of them and backs off of killing Meryl, but you never find out why. The only thing that is mentioned is that they own another pharmaceutical company that is very powerful. I find it hard to believe that that is enough to scare the General.

The fight scenes were a little long, but reminded me of fight scenes you would find in the Matrix or Kill Bill. Since most of the people fighting are indestructible, I understand why the scenes went on for so long, but I tend to get bored with long fights.

Now for the worst part of this book... The story is actually very good, so why did I give it 3 stars you may ask? Because this feels like the first draft of a really great story. There are so many spelling errors, grammatical errors, and just overall underdeveloped story lines that it could be improved immensely.

I received this book to review from the group Shut Up and Read and I would like to thank the author and modifier for providing this book.

Dr. Donald Viseman has created a human soldier who is stronger, one that can run faster, and keep on going no matter what the weather is like. After many failures he has finally succeeded in the making of what the Government now calls Project Mabus. They're secret weapon. One that they don't want anyone knowing about. As soon as he is born Nicole who works for the government takes Donald and Project Mabus to another location so they can destroy any evidence left behind. But years later there is a pharmaceutical company that has gotten their hands on the formula that was used to create this soldier and now they're making it into a drug. Michael and Meryl who are FBI agents are trying to figure out who is behind all this but what Michael doesn't know is that they're are planning on killing him.

I enjoyed the story it wasn't as fast paced as I thought it would be, because it did take me a while to read it. But I still liked it. I liked Donald's character it's extremely surprising knowing that he created a person who has the ability to do everything that Mavryk was meant for. I enjoyed reading about Meryl she was very different from the other characters, I liked her's the most. She was really dedicated to her job and she cared a lot about Michael. And Michael I thought he was such a mysterious guy, who didn't talk much or open up about things. For obvious reasons. This book had a good plot. And It was a great story I did enjoy it a lot. Thank you for giving me a chance to read it.

What can I say? I was hooked from the first phrase and I wanted to keep on reading. Being written in a rather fast pace, I could barely wait to see what would happen next, and I wasn't disappointed, loving the suspense the author created. As for the characters, my favorite was Michael, playing the dark and dangerous hero. But I even liked Kurtis, though not to the same extent. In the beginning I was expecting him to be the hero, and it came as a surprise to find out he wasn't.

So, I’m giving Project Mabus 3.5 stars, because despite all the good elements, the book had two obvious drawbacks which stopped me from giving it more. First, there was a lot of head-hopping which practically threw me out of the story and stopped me from getting to know the real Michael and Meryl, so switching the characters' POV wasn't done as discreetly as I would have liked. Second, changing the tense from past to present in the same sentence made me wonder whether the things were happening then or now, whether the phrase belonged to the character or did it belong to the author. I still haven't figured it out. There were other drawbacks, connected to the background story, that weren't so blatantly obvious, but still managed to leave me wondering which were the reasons behind the reasons for the way the characters acted.

*Received e-book through Read It and Reap program from the Shut Up and Read! Goodreads group from author for an honest review

Vila succeeds in writing an entertaining, suspenseful book with engaging action scenes and likeable characters. I especially admired Meryl, the new FBI agent with her sharp wit, contending with working with her old friend, Michael (the two of them was a little reminiscent of Mulder and Scully, but with a prior relationship). I would have liked more insight into their past, but I thought Vila revealed enough to keep the reader interested and engaged in their interactions. In addition, I found myself surprisingly engrossed in the fight scenes, as the descriptive narrative reminded me of those seen in films such as the Matrix (even the cover has a Neo-looking guy on it!). On the other hand, I do wish there was more explanation on the creation of the ultimate soldier as I am a big science fiction fan and wanted more details on the process. I also was distracted at times with the grammatical and spelling errors, which unnecessarily interrupted the flow of the plot.

Overall, Agent M:Project Mabus was a fun, thrilling read with a few, minor flaws. With the epilogue at the end, I am definitely looking forward to reading the next book. I would recommend this book to adult readers of both science fiction and mystery/crime novels.

This book has a lot of action/fight scenes that would look great on movies. I read this book to get inside the male POV; I want to know the thoughts, feelings, all the drama according to the main character. But the lack of internalization in Michael's POV makes me skip a lot of pages. If I'm more invested in Michael I might be squealing with delight when he goes all Rambo, barging into the enemy's fortress alone and kill everyone in sight. As that is not the case, his theatrics only annoys me.

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for a honest review.

I really enjoyed this book! I had a hard time getting started with it, but I think that was mainly because of the format I was reading it from. The book was exciting right until the end. I can’t wait for #2!
