Karl Edward Wagner (12 December 1945 – 13 October 1994) was an American writer, editor and publisher of horror, science fiction, and heroic fantasy, who was born in Knoxville, Tennessee and originally trained as a psychiatrist. His disillusionment with the medical profession can be seen in the stories "The Fourth Seal" and "Into Whose Hands". He described his world view as nihilistic, anarchistic and absurdist, and claimed, not entirely seriously, to be related to "an opera composer named Richard". Wagner also admired the cinema of Sam Peckinpah, stating "I worship the film The Wild Bunch".

I haven't read this particular edition, but giving it 5 stars since I did read both Where the Summer Ends: The Best Horror Stories of Karl Edward Wagner, Volume 1
(see my 5 star review here)
& Walk on the Wild Side: The Best Horror Stories of Karl Edward Wagner, Volume 2
(see my 4 star review here)
which were published shortly after this. It's a fantastic collection of all of KEW's short stories save for the Kane ones.

All are Centipede Press editions, this one is just both books in a sleeve, fancier bindings, & signed - beyond my budget, especially since I bought a set for myself & my son, plus a third copy of 'Summer' that I sent to a friend (Janny?). They were also really expensive & I just wanted to read the stories. Jerad, the owner of Centipede Press, assured me that the content was otherwise the same.

If I ever do get a chance at a copy reasonably priced, I'd love to have it.
