It looks like a well-illustrated history of the genre, but reads like one pretentious film buff's personal blog. The author heaps praise on the 1980 Flash Gordon and Barbarella, trashes Raiders of the Lost Ark and Back to the Future, and makes snide comments about anything animated.
Jeff Rovin's Encylopedia of Monsters is a far better guide to the genre, for new and old fans alike.
I've read this book over a dozen times in the last few years and it is one of my favorites on the subject. It has films that are not usually covered in SciFi books. If you can find it then grab it cause it's worth having.
