This is the book about the second sister, the homicide cop who has not been handling her husband's death well. The book follows up from the call at the end of the last book: they discover that their dad has been badly injured and mother missing and while all the cops think their mother did it and ran; the three siblings know different. The hero owns a construction business and knows exactly what the heroine is going through. Two years before the exact thing happened to him, his father was killed and mother missing and everyone believed his mother did it and ran but he knows different so when a reporter drops him a tip about what happened to the heroine's parents he makes his way to her. These two start spending time together because of the case. The heroine is still grieving deeply and acting dangerously: going to the site her husband died and contemplating joining him. Despite the growing attraction between them she is still holding on to the fact that her husband died and she can only love him. The heroine's parent's case was so sad and crazy; we actually get the heroine's mother POV when she is being held captive by someone insane. Plus the heroine is still investigating the case from the first book men being murdered and left naked in public. I really liked the hero and how open he was about his feelings and how much he cared for the heroine. He gifted a cat to her and didn't let her silences stand in the way. He also helped the heroine uncover that there was some crazy man out there kidnapping women and staging it to look like domestic disputes. At the end of the book heroine's mother is not yet found although the hero's mother's dead body is. On to the next!

Good book. Savannah first got involved with Riley only because his parents' case was so much like hers. On top of the loss of her husband the year before, she was stretched pretty thin emotionally. With Riley having gone through the same thing, he was able to connect with her and help her through her feelings. But she didn't want to let go of her love for her husband, and kept pushing Riley away. Riley knew he had fallen in love with Savannah, he just had to get her to let go of the past and begin to move forward. At the climax of the book, Savannah realized that life is short, and knew she had to say goodbye to Jimmy. I really want to know how this mystery turns out, so I ordered the other two books in the series.
