Through the Ever Night is the second book in this series and the story is indeed getting better!

The story picked up quickly after what was left in the previous book and Veronica successfully managed to create much more twists in this sequel. Those unsolved problems in the first book were perfectly answered, though she left me with even more mysteries. Luckily, we get to meet amazingly new people here, both good ones and villains. Or like when we went trekking through an alien jungle to rescue a space whale from some poachers. Ya know, we hang out. Have fun. Repress our strong feelings for each other in lieu of maintaining a platonic friendship. The usual.

So I’m pretty used to her taking me on wild adventures. I just don’t think I’m ever going to get used to reading her wild imagination! Through the Ever Night was, if possible, even better than Under the Never Sky. Rossi’s skill as a story teller has only grown and improved, so too has her characters. I don’t usually like to reference character hotness as a selling point in a book – but these two don’t even need to touch to be steaming up the pages which (now that I think about it, is probably a fire hazard). As always, some of the best parts about Rossi’s writing is the litany of secondary characters – Roar being one serious MVP.

Once again his wit and personality bring a much needed buoyancy and humour to an otherwise action-packed, edge of your seat, angst fest that left me clutching the book yelling, “What?! WHAT!?!” and “NOOOOOO!!!! NOOOO!! Oh my god howwillieversurvive!?!” You know it’s been a good book when you’re left thinking, “Oh yeah! It is ON, baby!”

I read a lot of good books these days, having become exceptionally good at weeding out stuff I’m pretty sure I’ll like – so it takes a special kind of series/book to make my top five of all time. Under The Never Sky certainly does and not just because V would falcon punch me if I didn’t say that.

It’s hard not to respect a book that kicks ass from start to finish. Especially the writing which has become smoother. Particularly in regards to the well-conceptualized action scenes which seems to be something that Rossi does particularly well, and everything is really easy to visualize. The Aether, an aspect of this book that exceedingly confused people the last time round, will probably still confuse you. She explains it more in this book but still, what is an Aether? Buggered if I know. And you know what? Two books in and I still don’t CARE. It’s there, it’s awesome. It’s rocking the Casbah. What’s a Casbah? I don’t know either, but it rocks. (Okay, lies. I totally know what the Casbah is. So sue me.)

Seriously, I have a very small list of books that I love more than life itself but THIS ONE IS ON IT. Go read now!

I especially enjoyed watching Aria's relationships with Perry and Roar unfold. There was hardly any relationship drama, just a few tiny twinges of jealousy from Perry's side. But no fights and no tears. In all the books I've read, couples go through different stages in their relationships. There's ups and downs (e.g. Clary&Jace, Tris&Four, Gwyneth&Gideon) in many of those books, so it's refreshing to read of ...more

It's not often that a sequel outshines its predecessor, but with Through the Ever Night, it seems to be the general consensus. We've had a few examples here and there, and they've all proved to be pretty memorable, but I don't think I've ever seen a case quite like this. Don't get me wrong – I loved Under the Never Sky, it was fresh and dynamical and it left a lasting impression, but due to its intensity, Through the Ever Night is far more remarkable. Rossi has grown more confident as a writer, It's not often that a sequel outshines its predecessor, but with Through the Ever Night, it seems to be the general consensus. We've had a few examples here and there, and they've all proved to be pretty memorable, but I don't think I've ever seen a case quite like this. Don't get me wrong – I loved Under the Never Sky, it was fresh and dynamical and it left a lasting impression, but due to its intensity, Through the Ever Night is far more remarkable. Rossi has grown more confident as a writer, the success of her debut has done her a world of good, and her newly found self-assurance shines from every page. As with everything else, the attitude makes so much difference, it's a well-known fact, and Rossi now firmly stands on her own two feet. I believe we can expect great things from her.

I deem it necessary to mention that the book is perfectly paced. Like its predecessor, it’s told from both Aria and Perry’s point of view, and while third person alternating view is by far my least favorite narrative mode, Rossi made it work splendidly. I can’t imagine Through the Ever Night told any other way.

It goes without saying that things never go smoothly for Perry and Aria. Theirs is a romance I’m very fond of and left to their own devices, they would be no more than a step away from their happily ever after. However, there’s not one, but two worlds between them: Aria’s Dwellers would never accept someone like Peregrine, a savage by their standards, and his Tides have nothing but insults for Aria, with only a few exceptions.

Even though their feelings for each other were constantly being put to the test, through it all, they both grew tremendously as individuals. Aria is nothing like that pale, scared girl from Under the Never Sky. She is confident, fierce, a strong Aud and a good friend. All her attitudes and prejudices are gone. There is both strength and grace in her gait she didn’t possess before, and she certainly knows what to do with a knife. But there are also changes on the inside, she cares for people differently and she values different things.
She’d been seeking the comfort of a place. Of walls. A roof. A pillow to rest her head on. Now she realized that the people she loved were what gave her life shape, and comfort, and meaning. Perry and Roar were home.

Changes on Perry are perhaps less evident, but they are just as big. Through his responsibility toward his tribe and more losses than he can count, he gained a somber maturity that he lacked before. His every step, every single word carries more weight, and each decision he makes shapes the lives of many. He is a far cry from that rash, headstrong boy we know from Under the Never Sky, and if I had to choose one thing that really stood out in this book, it would be his characterization – the subtle changes found between the lines, but perhaps more important for the remainder of the story than everything else put together.

There are things in Through the Ever Night that will make you laugh, things that will make you cry, things that will make you inch up nervously in your seat, some that will make you angry enough to punch something (hopefully not someone, though), and things that will make you swoon. Now, aren’t those signs of a perfect read?

I think you’ve all noticed that my five star ratings are few and far between, but a book that had… HAS such a tight hold on my heart, that still lingers in my mind even though it’s been weeks since I’d finished it, definitely deserves my wholehearted support. Veronica Rossi does, too. While the ending was open, but entirely satisfactory, Into the Still Blue can’t come soon enough, I tell you. I will be right here, nervously biting my nails until it does.

Epic adventure, heart-pounding action, romance, friendship, longing, and heartbreak are all found within the pages. I’m still reeling with awe at the love I have for this story!

We pick up right where the story left off in Under the Never Sky where Aria and Perry meet again. Their love for each other is strong, but they face so many outside challenges. We pick up right where the story left off in Under the Never Sky where Aria and Perry meet again. Their love for each other is strong, but they face so many outside challenges. The Aether storms seem to be growing both in frequency and intensity, so all the tribes and even the Realms need to find a safe haven before everything necessary for life is destroyed. Aria is tasked with the mission to find the elusive Still Blue, an area that is supposed to be unharmed by the Aether storms, by Consul Hess. He’s blackmailed her into cooperating or risk the well-being of Talon, Perry’s beloved nephew. Perry is now Blood Lord to the Tides but all is not smooth sailing. The decision to bring Aria back to the Tides is met with suspicion, and most of the Tides members hate her even if she is half Outsider. The Tides don’t fully trust Perry either, questioning his decisions as their leader, and Perry feels their doubt profoundly.

Oh man, was this good! I loved Under the Never Sky but I think this surpasses that story, something almost unheard of with a sequel. No dreaded “second book syndrome” where much of the story is filler, gearing up for the final wrap-up in the last book. This story was thrilling in every way and almost impossible to put down.

I loved the romance between Perry and Aria. Their characters are so well fleshed out, and you feel their concerns, despair, joy, and love right along with them. They are from two different worlds but their care and love for the people around them, and their common goals make them well-suited for each other. They had to weather a few storms, and I think they’ve become stronger for it. I love this quote:

Her eyes blurred, and she wasn’t sure if it was from the pain or from the relief of being with him again. He brought a sense of rightness. She felt it every moment she spent with him. Even the wrong ones. Even the painful ones, like now. Perry’s hands stilled. He looked up, and his gaze told her everything. He felt it too.*

Secondary character such as Roar and Cinder, and even Soren add layers to an already amazing tale, and I found myself fully invested in their stories, as well. This was an exciting adventure, filled with action, and danger. Where we leave off in this installment has me anxious and super eager for the conclusion. I really like the way things are shaping up, and I think the next story has real potential to be just as exciting as this one. Veronica Rossi has managed to stun an amaze me, and I can’t wait to pick up her next book!

Through the Ever Night is one of the few sequels that truly took me by surprise - in the best possible way. I can't quite articulate how excited I was for this book, especially after loving Under the Never Sky, so to say that my expectations were met would be an understatement. Once again, Veronica Rossi has proved her prowess as a writer and if there's anything I can guarantee, it's that fans of the series will most definitely not be disappointed by this scintillating sequel.

It's been 2 years since I read the first book in this series, but I rolled right back into this story like I never stopped reading! Perry and Aria's adventure is just so fast-paced and exciting, it never gets boring.

1.) I hAve to say, the first one was far better but still, this was a great sequel.

2.) the characters development sure surprised me. In the first book, I clearly am annoyed at Cinder but in this, I love him. Such a cute lovely boy going through puberty. Lol. Ship him with Willow.

And somehow, I felt pity for Soren for the reason that he ended up getting guilty for what he committed. I did love Reef for he was a fatherly-figure.

Aria's POV was so bland. She had the personality of plank, she was the typical do goody cookie cutter heroine found in every YA book. There was nothing to Aria apart from her love for Perry, she was so devoted and obsessed with him, it was sickening. Her whole world revolved around Perry, and making sure his family and friends were okay. She barely thought about her old friends… her new life was all about Perry and Perry's world. She lost her identity — at least in the first book, she had some mission of her own when she was looking for her mum but in this one her every thought, decision, desire and action revolved around Perry in some shape or form. I hate that most heroines gradually or sometimes even suddenly lose everything from their pre-hero life when they meet them — they lose their home for some reason or another, they only have meaningful relationships with the hero and his family/friends and they have no purpose outside of the hero's wants/needs/desires. It's depressing.
I lost all respect for Aria when she thought badly of Liv. Poor Liv was traded for food and forced to marry someone else and all Aria could think was that Liv was a bitch for going ahead with the marriage. What was Liv supposed to do? She was sold, she couldn't go back to her tribe when they'd just blame her for their hunger and she couldn't live with herself knowing that she had the power to prevent her tribe starving, and it's not like she could have survived on her own somewhere else… Liv had no choice but to agree to the marriage. But all Aria could think about was Roar being hurt by the girl he loved because she was marrying someone else… where was her sympathy with Liv's predicament? She knew that Liv didn't choose the situation she was in, she knew that Liv had to sacrifice her life and love so her people could survive… but bitch Aria didn't care, all she cared about was her boys… Ugh.
Perry was even worse than Aria, he was emo and whiny throughout the book. I really wasn't impressed that he was attracted to someone else and was very very very close to cheating. It was disappointing, especially when Aria was 100% faithful to him and wasn't lusting after anyone else. Meanwhile Perry was getting all hot and bothered about that Kirra girl even though he'd only known her for a few days. I can't believe that he loves Aria as much as he claims when he had so little faith and trust in her and when he was desiring someone else and was so affected by some other girl — it actually seemed like his reactions to Kirra conveyed more passion than when he was with Aria. Yea, I don't think he loves Aria at all, he just became attached to her in the first book because of the intense situation they were in. I have no doubt in my mind that when Aria/Perry hit one of the many rough patches that's inevitable in all relationships, he'll start getting closer to some other girl and then he'll cheat. I hope Aria finds out about Perry having sexy feelings and thoughts for another girl (Although, I bet if it is mentioned Aria will just forgive and forget like the typical doormat heroine). I think it's only fair that Aria lusts after someone else in the next book — it's not fair that he's lusted after loads of girls, had loads of great sex with them and had meaningful long term relationships with girls when she's had NOTHING apart from one lame kiss from some geeky guy. Aria might actually be interesting if she was having lusty thought about someone else. I wouldn't mind her and Roar getting it on… at least if she had something going on with him it would make sense since they've spent so much time together and gotten to know one another. Aria and Perry's love isn't very believable… it takes more than Perry 'rendering' to Aria for me to believe in their 'epic love'. Their thoughts, actions and interactions should make me believe that their soulmates or whatever, not some cheap 'bond'. I do think Aria loves Perry but after reading this I don't buy that Perry's madly in love with Aria.
Anyway, the story line really dragged and mainly consisted of Perry moaning and feeling sorry for himself and Aria being a boring self sacrificing Mary Sue. Perry was struggling to be Blood Lord and spent his time bitching that everyone didn't fall at his feet and obey him and respect him and think he was right about every little thing… at least at the end he realised he had to work for people's respect and prove his worthiness for their loyalty and command.
Aria spent most of her time trying to find a way to help Perry with his sister and nephew. I would have preferred if she was trying to do something for herself like finding her father but she was too busy with Perry's problems. She was also trying to locate the whereabouts of the Still Blue but that was only because she was forced to in order to save Perry's nephew and his tribe from the Aether storms. So yea, it was all about Perry and his family and friends… I really wish that Aria had some other motivation or drive of her own that didn't revolve around Perry and his people.
All in all… Perry was an emo cheating douche, Aria was dull, the romance wasn't romantic and the plot was boring. ...more

I’m really sad that I’m not loving this trilogy.

Whew. I am stunned because I didn’t like Under the Never Sky at all and had my doubts about continuing this series, but I am so glad I gave this book a chance because, turns out, Through the Ever Night is the best book I've read in months. Very impressive. ‘Under the Never Sky’ was a book I was dying to read, put off for so long, and fell in love instantly; so when I was given the chance to read ‘Through the Ever Night’ I couldn’t contain my excitement. I was desperate to jump back into Perry and Aria’s world. After the way the first book ended, I needed to know if they’d get together. The action, excitement and emotional rollercoaster we’re sent on met all my expectations and more. I loved every single moment of this book.

I was desperate to jump back into Perry and Aria’s world. After the way the first book ended, I needed to know if they’d get together. The action, excitement and emotional rollercoaster we’re sent on met all my expectations and more. I loved every single moment of this book.

‘Through the Ever Night’ begins almost exactly where the previous book ended with Aria and Perry meeting up for the first time since they parted ways - we actually get to hear the words Aria had been waiting for from Perry. But their reunion is short-lived because of Perry’s new duties as the Blood Lord of the Tides and Aria’s task to find the Still Blue in order to save Talon from Reverie. It definitely sets the scene for the book. While both Perry and Aria want nothing more than to be alone with each, they’re pushed away by the separate responsibilities tasked to them. To say these responsibilities left me frustrated at times is an understatement. I just wanted to see Aria and Perry happy together. But their tasks meant not always following what I wanted them to do, and focused more on seeing the Outsider world in completely new ways, especially when it came to running and trading with different tribes.

The biggest problem for Aria and Perry in this book is the strength of the Aether and the storms that are causing more harm than they ever had before. The Aether - a piece of the natural world, always present since a solar flare 300 years ago changed the way the world survived; and always dangerous. But the funnels - the electric fire power that attack the ground below without mercy – is a threat to everyone. There’s no escape from the destruction caused by an Aether storm. The Outsider tribes are losing food and shelter; not even the pods in Reverie can survive an attack from the Aether. The only hope is finding the Still Blue. The Aether has always interested me. I really enjoyed seeing this natural disaster problem; this powerful element destroying the world without hope of ever being fixed. I like that this is the push that makes the population want to fight for a new world. There’s no government pulling them down, no rules that need to be followed; just the natural world out to destroy. Yes, there are other people who are hoping to stand in their way of finding the Still Blue, but no-one owns them; the fight is always to stay alive first and hope for a better world second.

I was glad to be thrown into the familiar switching POVs – the same as how they were in ‘Under the Never Sky’ – changing between Aria and Perry, but different in that a lot of the novel happens when they’re apart from each other. Countless times I almost went mental, when one chapter would end with a shock, only to be thrown into the other character’s chapter that would also end with a surprising twist and I’d be torn in multiple directions emotionally; desperate to find out the consequences of Aria’s last ending, but not ready to let go of the twist from Perry’s. All the while dying for them to be together again. It was an incredibly emotional journey for me. A big part of why I love this series so much is the romance we get to see between Perry and Aria. It wasn’t quite as physical as ‘Under the Never Sky’ but the emotions were all still there. I love how strongly Aria and Perry feel for each other. Even though there were a few moments of uncertainty, I loved knowing what they felt for each other was so powerful and true. They’ve jumped up my list of favourite YA couples.

One of my favourite parts of this story was getting to see some of the side characters. While Aria and Perry are constantly thinking about each other, their separation gave us a chance to explore the people they relied on most to help them through. Aria forms a bond with Roar as they cross the country side in search of Liv and news of the Still Blue. I love Roar. He’s funny, charming and protective. You might think that if a female YA character is thrown into situation where she spends so much time alone with a guy she wasn’t originally in love with that there might be ‘love-triangle’ warnings flashing through your head. Never fear, Aria’s only got eyes for Perry and nothing could keep Roar from loving Liv. As for Perry, the group of warriors he stumbles upon in the end of ‘Under the Never Sky’ become his closest advisors; they keep him safe and in control, following him wherever he might lead – and as a struggling Blood Lord, he really needed the support. You don’t instantly think of these characters as the “main characters” but they are every bit as important to the story and I’m just as attached to them as I am Perry and Aria.

I was so sad when the book came to an end. It almost felt like I was missing more pages, even though I knew I had come to the perfect end for the book. Questions about what will happen next are still running through my mind and the wait for book #3 is probably going to kill me. I see a lot of re-reading in my future to get me through the wait.

This book made me cry like a little baby while riding the bus. For some of you this might doesn't sound like that big of a deal but it was, I don't cry in public places. I can hold it back most of the time, but in this book?! Hell no. But I loved it nonetheless. Really loved it!

I loved knowing more about this world, I loved meeting the new characters and knowing more about the ones we met in the first book. I still love Perry more than life and the girl just keeps getting better. I also love Ro ...more

Through the Ever Night by Veronica Rossi is a beautiful novel that will keep you on the edge of your seat the whole time. Please read the first book, Under the Never Sky, first and get a better understanding of the book. You find a dystopian novel with a twist of romance and all Hunger Games fans will be sure you enjoy this book. I would definitely recommend it!

Perry
Peregrine is the main male character in the novel. Outsider. Savage. He's someone you just can't not love. No, not "fall in love", I meant, you can't not love this character. GAH! Whatever, *squints* do you understand? Well, anyway, with burdens on his shoulders, Perry is stressed. The fact of his people taking sides for and against him, his lover "ditching" him, his sister getting married, and so many unexpected events, can he keep up?

Ahh...Aria. Smartass. Dweller. Mole. But who knew, she's half of both Outsider and Dweller? Shocking, right? She just has that thing about her. You get to connect with her so much! Beautiful soul, any girl's fictional best friend.

After Roar trying to find her for more than a year, she ignores him and plans to marry Sable. But as things unfold, you find her as your friend and hero.

Through the Ever Night takes you on an emotional roller coaster ride that leaves you with ALL THE FEELS.

In Through the Ever Night, Perry and Aria are faced with many challenges. Rossi pushes these characters to their limits and you can see just how much they've developed/are still developing in TTEN. Perry is now the Blood Lord of the Tides and with that comes deep responsibility for the well-being of his people. Days were darkened by clouds and the blue cast of Aether. Nights were brightened by the same. They flowed together, the edges blurring into an endless day. An ever night.

This book two of the Under the Never Sky trilogy is naturally magnificent. The world building was great. WoW . Perry looks very..... modern ? o.O . Atleast for a guy who has lived in the woods for all his life and basically doesn't own a decent shirt .
