Screwed up, antagonistic protagonists, coupled with sweeping, poetic prose. These are unsettling short stories, yet beautifully fulfilling. A really good collection.
I won this book through a firstreads giveaway.

I think I did Aimee Parkison a disservice by reading her collection alongside Jhumpa Lahiri’s Interpreter of Maladies and Isabel Wilkerson’s The Warmth of Other Suns. The latter two books are grounded in ordinary, every day struggles made extraordinary by the authors’ prose and the the significance of migration, cultural change, and the human capacity to adapt and grow.
