Rate this book
Ty Elliot returns to his home after an absence of two years, knowing full well the danger which threatens him each hour he lingers in the old cabin in the mountains. But with his father on his death bed and his younger sister exhausted, Ty knows he must remain for a time at least. When his father makes a strange request and begs his returned son to “find her,” Ty promises but is bewildered. Who is he to find? How can he set about the task of honoring his word? The only clues the dying man can give his son are a broken locket, a small photograph of a woman and a few last whispered instructions; “Take care of your sisters.” In confusion, Ty turns to his father’s childhood friend, Carson, for advice. Would the older man be able to help Ty and his sister, Sally? How much time did Ty have at the cabin before ‘they’ found out?Join Ty, Sally and Carson on their journey in search of the missing sister. The dangers they encounter, the hardships they face, as well as the friendly homes they visit, will keep you turning the pages. Set in the untamed west of the mid-1800s, this is a story the whole family will enjoy.

Rebekah A. Morris has lived her entire life (as of now) in Missouri. Being home educated during her school years was great, except for writing. That was the worst subject (along with math) that she had to do. It wasn't until after she graduated that she discovered the joys and wonder of writing. Now she can't write enough. After spending six years in research and writing, she completed her first book, "Home Fires of the Great War," a 500+ page, historical fiction about home life in the United States and Canada during the First World War. Since then, she has been an avid writer and always has more than one story going on at once because only one story at a time got tiring and dull.

I wasn't ready for this audiobook to end. Everything wrapped up perfectly well, but I could have kept listening for days.

I could see everything and everyone clearly in my mind. The narrator was excellent:)

Plenty of action and suspense, and just enough downtime in the right places.

If I had a brother, I'd want him to be a lot like Ty.

I picked up this book when it was on sale, not quite sure what to expect.

The first 25% I was rather boring and confusing. The flashbacks were not well arranged, and I wish the author had told us the relations between the characters much earlier in the book. But, after the first part, the book really picked up in pace and I loved it.
The brother-sister relationship was amazing and I loved watching them interact. I also really loved that this book was not a romance, it was refreshing. Don't get me wrong, I like romance, but it tends to dominate the book, so it was nice to read one without a romance.

I will definitely be reading more by this author.

2021>> I enjoyed re-reading this one. It is not the best of the author, but it still has a good bit of charm.

It's been a long time since I reread this story. I'd forgotten how much I enjoyed it, and the memories of writing it came back. It was fun to be with Ty, Sally, and Carson once again. It is a bit hard to believe that this was only my 2nd novel to write.

This book had almost a different feel than some of this author's other books, but I liked it. It was slow at first, but not in a bad way. It was slow enough that you could imagine what life was really like for Sally and Ty and Carson as they made their journey and the emotions that they all felt along the way. It picked up before I had a chance to get at all bored though, and I loved watching the mystery unfold. The details throughout the book were intriguing and made it where I felt that I could really see the story happening. The characters also really came alive for me, to the point that I almost stopped thinking of them as fictional. Overall, I really felt rooted in the story, like I was right there with them. The themes and conversations of turning to God made the book even better, and seeing the characters learn to go to God was sweet. The ending was perfect too, leaving me completely satisfied and with all my questions answered.

I really enjoyed "The Unexpected Request". It was an amazing book set in the old west that kept you on the edge of your seat without any scenes you would have to skip over! An amazing book!

Oh, oh, oh, this book! So, so many heart-eyes! <3<3<3<3<3<3

I know I keep saying each new (to me) book by Rebekah is my favorite, but this one absolutely takes the cake. Okay, yes, still 'so far,' but it's smashed the 4.5 star mark and is demanding a full five. Maybe five and a half. (It's only getting five, for obvious reasons, but don't tell it that.) ;)

Specifics? You want specifics? All the little heart-eyes aren't enough? Okay, fine. Let's start with a plot that pulled me in from page one and kept me on the edge of my seat the whole way. Not that the action was (always) that intense, but the lingering mystery, the unanswered questions, the eagerness to reach the end of the quest had me groaning any time I had to put the book down to focus on something else. (Thankfully, I was listening on audiobook, or I'd have been in real trouble.)

And the characters! (Insert all the heart-eyes!) Ty was so gentle and loving and protective under his rough exterior. Sally was a great mix of necessary ruggedness and girlish softness. Carson was such a wonderful friend to both of them. And the minor characters? So fun and diverse and well-differentiated! The German blacksmith and his Mexican frau/senora had me absolutely rolling! So much fun!

The descriptions kept me grounded solidly in the setting without making me want to skip over them. I mean...not that I'm ever tempted to do that. *ahem* Moving on. I never felt pulled out of the story by any words, phrases, or ideas that felt too modern for the time. And believe me, that's a serious compliment! Actually, I can't honestly name any element of this book that I think could be improved.

This was just such a wonderful story! Deep but simple. Gripping but gentle. Real but beautiful. Not only did I laugh out loud multiple times, I actually cried happy/sweet tears--and that's extremely rare for me! I can guarantee I'll be reading it again. (And again. And again. You know the drill. :D)

P.S.-- And lest I forget, the audiobook narrator was wonderful and really kept my attention and interest. Two thumbs up on the performance as well!

Content--some violence, including gunplay, and injuries, but not excessive or overly descriptive; a non-descriptive kiss; a man tries to force a kiss on a girl

I thoroughly enjoyed rereading this book a second time! There was so much I had forgotten so it was almost like reading it for the first time again. The ending was so bittersweet for me. I would love to get a sequel about Ty’s time as sheriff of Mel’s Ridge.

’ve been absolutely loving this author’s Triple Creek Ranch series, so I decided to try one of her older books.

The Setting:
This story is set during pioneer times in the Old West. I found it very interesting and fascinating, although it was a little hard to read with their hick accents. : )

The Storyline:
The storyline was very neat! The plot was a little predictable, but I enjoyed it just the same. I loved all the adventure and twists and turns (something I’ve found a little lacking in her later books). It was also really good to see the characters’ growth in the Lord and trusting Him as the story progressed. One of my favorite parts is when one of the characters was explaining that God is always with us, and we can trust Him.

The Characters:
I really enjoyed the characters. Carson was an awesome father figure, Ty was really cool in the way that he treated his sister and kept on going when things were hard, and Sally was awesome in the way she supported him. I also loved the Field and Westlin families. The bad guys were a little one dimensional, but they served their purpose. : )

The Concerns:
Parents should have caution in considering this book for younger readers because of some threatening bad guys. Sally is a bit headstrong, but for most of the story she is not close to the Lord. Also, at the beginning of the story there is a supposition by the main characters (it ends up being untrue) that maybe their mother left their father and had a child by someone else. My biggest concern would be that near the end of the book one of the bad guys almost sexually harms a young girl. It all turns out okay, but it is definitely not a thought for young readers.

Altogether, I enjoyed this book as an exciting adventure/mystery! It was also neat to see this author’s earlier work and notice the same themes in her later stories. A good read. : )

I LOVED this book.
The first hundred pages were kind of boring, but after that it started getting really exciting.
The characters were awesome, the plot was amazing and the message was fantastic.
Over all it was a wonderful, simple and laid back book.

Love this book the author should write another book where Ty gets married and
Sally has kids. I loved how she connected the characters and keeps you in suspense, and all the parts where things happen unexpectedly. Sally is my favorite character.

Wow! This book was wonderful! Some aspects of the plot were predictable, but for the most part, I was quite surprised.
