Joe the Frog

Joe on the Go

Rate this book
It’s the Frog family reunion, and all of Joe’s relatives have gathered together. Everybody’s having fun—everyone except for Joe. With so many Frogs around, you’d think that surely somebody would play with Joe, but everyone says he’s too big, too small, too fast, or too slow. No matter where poor Joe turns, all he hears is “no” . . . until a very special guest arrives—someone with an appreciation for Joe and his boundless energy, someone who even has her own set of wheels.

Bright, appealing illustrations feature Joe’s mishaps with all kinds of things that tricycles, skateboards, roller skates, and more.

Every living creature is, in some sense, moving through life. But it's a safe bet that Joe the frog is moving more than most of us.

As extended family arrives at his family festivity, Joe begins to wonder if he will ever fit in. For instance, Grandpa Proud, taking group photos, tells everybody:

"Hold real still".

To Joe, asking this is like asking him to... eat kryptonite.

By the end of the story, though, Grandma saves the day. No details from me, since no spoilers is my policy. Besides, you'll have more fun by reading this delightful book on your own.

Brilliant concept, text, and pictures are all by Peggy Perry Anderson: IMO this is totally a FIVE STAR book.

I think this is a sad book. Hate to be that person who takes a children's book too seriously. Nowadays seems like everyone does. But i really didn't like this book. So sorry. Just not for us.

Spanish translation of the 2007 book Joe on the Go. An energetic little frog tries to get the attention of various family members at a family reunion. Everyone is too busy to play with him, until he finds Grandma in a wheelchair. They go off and have ice cream and all is good. Some of the rhyming is a bit awkward in Spanish, but the rhythm and universal appeal of the story still shines through. The colorful ink drawings are full of life and humor.

This is a cute story about a young frog who expresses his frustration because no one will go with him. He is either too fast, too slow, too big or too small. Until...

Fun illustrations and a story the younger kids will enjoy (and probably relate to!) We've borrowed this one from the library a few times.

An okay book. The little one liked it. The adult thought it a bit tiresome.

Another one the little boy loves...but you must do fun voices and make funny sounds! The rhyming in the book makes it fun!

Joe wants to be on the go in this early reader. Can he get anyone to play with him? No, no, no. Then he finds that his Grandma has plenty of time for her grandson on the go.

My three year old LOVES this book, we have to read it every night, and he's starting to recognize words and is starting to 'insist' on reading this book to me! :-)

At the frog family reunion, all Joe wants is a little attention and someone to play with, but the whole family is too busy, or full, or old, or slow, and no one wants to play with Joe. Eventually his grandma goes with him the the ice cream store with a sweet ending. This would be a good read aloud, but also an independent read for a very young reader because of the repetition, basic clear words, and fun, detailed pen illustrations.
