One of the best colour and embroidery books available. Embroiderers, it's a must for your library - not an embroiderer, this book is worth adding if you use colour in any way at all.

Extremely technical- focuses on color palettes and choices. I would suggest as a reference guide more than anything.

Recommends it for: intermediate embroiderers
The pictures of Ms. Burr's artwork are so beautifully done that it's almost hard to believe they aren't painted (or real, in some cases!). She's a master of her art form and this book is a great primer on the basics of embroidery and on colour theory. The chapters on shading and colour selection lead into great information on how colour choice affects the finished embroidery piece. In many cases Ms. Burr provides multiple stitched examples to show the difference between two or more effects. The ...more

The title of this book is spot on. It is about understanding colour and how to use colour to create beautiful embroidered images. Trish Burr has written a technique book that steps you through the aspects you need in order to work with colour. The chapters that I particularly found useful were the ones that dealt with practical colour advice such as: How colour affects our embroidery, warm colours, cool colours, colour blending, colour contrasts, colour combinations and complementary colours. ...more
