This book is said to be a companion book to the Bible version Game Plan For Life in the NIV. I think this devotional can stand on its own.

These devotionals are easy to read and understand. With references to visits at the home depot and planning for a game I think every man will find his examples easy to relate too. The devotions are not very long. Each one starts with a verse and ends with a prayer. I found them to be practical and filled with great advice.

I like how in each devotional you find a little of the personality of the author. In one devotional he talks about he is just an “average Joe” like every one else. He says that in his life he is always looking for help to make it through and has found the Bible to be his greatest resource.

I gave this book 5/5 stars. I liked how practical it was. I enjoyed the easy to understand and short devotionals. I would recommend this book as a gift for any Christian man, especially those who are on the lookout for a devotional book.

I would like to thank NetGalley and the publisher for the copy of this book I enjoyed reading. I gave an honest review based on my opinion of what I read.

This is a more traditional, “Old School” devotional. Joe Gibbs - well, if you don’t know who Joe Gibbs is, this devotional probably isn’t for you. Having coached the Washington Redskins for several years, Gibbs began to understand the intersections of life, faith, and football as he led his players on the field day to day. As his tenure went on, he took advantage of his position and developed a habit of sharing life lessons with players (and eventually anyone who subscribed).

CHALK TALKS is a collection of some of these lessons that can be used for personal devotions. Some of the topics include finances, surrendering your will to God, forgiveness, surviving life’s hardships, and living intentionally as an individual and as a member of a community. These devotions are more suited for a structured time frame - someone with a regularly-scheduled devotion time and the attention span that can outlast an essay that spans 3-4 pages. (Unfortunately, that’s a stretch these days.) For those who read through these, the reward is some keen insight into shaping a Godly life and building a lasting legacy. Whether you’re a football fan or not.

This is devotional book is very practical because it make you think and makes good use of scripture from the Bible. it contains a lot of the same information as the Game Plan For Life book but it is good on its' own. I would recommend both. This book is excellent for men who are contemplating their faith as well as those who are established and secure in their faith. The style in which Joe Gibbs' writes is very refreshing.

Short but sweet. Good to get a little look into the life of a man like Joe Gibbs who has done a lot of things in sports.
