This groundbreaking book views conflict as a mirror of our own lives and attitudes. Bringing East and West together in a "spiritually practical" approach to negotiation and conflict prevention, The Tao of Negotiation teaches us how to regain and maintain our sense of personal power in all forms of negotiation and how to use that power wisely and compassionately--with the aim of maximizing harmony and understanding in our business and personal lives. Readers can immediately use the techniques in The Tao Negotiation to improve communication skills, defuse potential conflicts, and pave the way for peaceful and rewarding interactions in their business and personal lives.
This book mostly informs personal applications and is heavy on the "discover the other party's interests and negotiate a win-win solution" approach. Some food for thought and some interesting anecdotes.
I'd have liked a paradigm for when win-lose negotiations are desirable and how best to pursue such, but the point of this book was to deny that win-lose situations need exist. A bit idealistic.
I'm learning mediation, but this book really could be great for anyone who has conflict -- that's everyone right?? Just a really solid book on how to negotiate anything so that it's a win-win for everyone involved. Loved it.
Actually provides useful insight into conflict resolution and emotional maturity. Has actually helped me solve some problems. An unusually good self help book
