You keep the scars hidden and tell yourself you can stop, but you cant. You think the pain of cutting will end the hurt inside, but it always comes back. Maybe you dont even want to admit that you engage in self-harm. Is there any hope for breaking free? Author Nancy Alcorn says yes, you can find hope and freedom if you apply the principles in this book. Nancy combines deep compassion with practical knowledge, insight and guidance from Gods Word. The lives of more than two thousand young women who have experienced the life-changing program of Mercy Ministries which Nancy founded, are proof that these principles work. Cut will help you learn to recognize the signs and symptoms of self-harm, understand how and why these behaviors develop, and know how to break free and stay free. Read the stories of girls just like you, who once had no hope but now live with joy and freedom. Theres also a special section for parents and others who care. There is mercy for self-harm!
As someone who has actually dealt with self harm firsthand, I found this book TOO focused on the religious aspect and didn't concentrate on ways to actually overcome engaging with self harm.
Reading through the book, there were a few ideas that would help an individual deal with self harm, such as talking to someone maturely about it, or expressing your feelings through art of writing but religion seemed to be the end-all answer and that's where I lost interest in the book.
I have never been a religious person, and I purchased this book believing that it would offer some good insights into other people's lives about why they were cutting and providing various means of how to overcome self harm and maintain a healthy mindset over time. Simply attributing God as a solution to a problem won't help everyone and won't necessarily make the situation get any better.
Definitely a great book for someone who is dealing with self-harm. I loved that she brought a lot of scripture into the chapters as well. I did specifically read it for pointers on how to help women/girls who are going through that but didn't really get much from that perspective.
