Primarily historical and theological in approach to celibacy through the life of the Church. It provides a surprising case for the fact that celibacy has been an institution within the faith from the very beginning, rooted in Scripture (Mt 19:12).

A very good read. It's a collection of essays from different authors, Catholic and Protestant alike. Some good essays, but some arguments that I think are outdated and inadequate. Still the book has left me with the impression that celibacy truly is a gift to the Church, and in fact is unlikely to change.
